As One Piece begins to fill in the gaps of what happened after the Reverie while Luffy and the Straw Hats were stuck on Wano, some big reveals have shaken up the pirate hierarchy in some pretty wild ways. And with the Seven Warlords system dissolved during the Reverie, it left the Warlords themselves fighting against the Navy.

With the newest episode of the series updating the Straw Hats' new place in the world, and explaining how Buggy ended up being recognized as a new Emperor of the Sea, the next episode of the anime teases a follow up to another former Warlord, Boa Hancock. Picking up from the tease that saw the Marines attacking her island following the Reverie, it's teased that both Koby and Blackbeard were involved in a chaotic new battle. You can check out the promo for One Piece Episode 1087 below.

The Boy and The Heron is finally coming to the United States and other international territories later this week after taking over Japan earlier this Fall, and Studio Ghibli has shared a spoiler-filled new look at some of the movie's footage with a special new music video! The Boy and the Heron was previously thought to be famed creator Hayao Miyazaki's final film before he officially announced he was going to continue working on Studio Ghibli's films, and that's made the newest work all the more exciting. Even more so as Studio Ghibli didn't show any footage before its release.

The Boy and The Heron (released as "How Do You Live?" in Japan) eschewed traditional marketing and didn't show any promotional images, posters, or even teasers before its release in Japan. But now that it's been out for a while and getting ready to release in the rest of the world, Studio Ghibli has shown off the most it has yet with a special new music video for Kenshi Yonezu's theme song, "Spinning Globe." You can check it out below, but beware of spoilers.

How to Watch The Boy and The Heron

The Boy and The Heron released across theaters in Japan earlier this Fall, and will be releasing in the United States and Canada in theaters and IMAX beginning on December 8th with GKIDS. Hayao Miyazaki handled the writing and directing duties (his first new feature in ten years) with Takeshi Honda serving as animation director, Toshio Suzuki as producer, and Joe Hisaishi composing the music. The English voice cast for the movie includes Christian Bale, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Karen Fukuhara, Mark Hamill, Robert Pattinson, Florence Pugh, Luca Padovan, Mamoudou Athie, Tony Revolori, and Dan Stevens.

Studio Ghibli has been playing coy about what to expect from The Boy and The Heron's story alongside the holding back of footage, but they continue to mysteriously tease the film as such, "A young boy named Mahito yearning for his mother ventures into a world shared by the living and the dead. There, death comes to an end, and life finds a new beginning. A semi-autobiographical fantasy about life, death, and creation, in tribute to friendship, from the mind of Hayao Miyazaki."

The Top Manga and Webtoon Piracy Site May Be Closed Soon https://comicbook.com/anime/news/manga-webtoon-online-free-piracy-shutdown/ Tue, 05 Dec 2023 02:27:00 +0000 Nick Valdez be25a29f-9525-49b1-94d0-6f8923930f91

One of the largest manga and Webtoon piracy sits, M, may be closed soon as Kakao has identified the operators of the site after five years of tracking. Manga, Webtoon, and anime piracy has been one of the key defining issues of the current era of the mediums, and that continues to grow over the years as more series begin to release their works each year. But in recent years, key publishers have been working together to take legal action against some of the biggest sites. According to a recent report, Kakao has been working on this for five years.

According to a new report from KBS (as spotted by @MangaMoguraRE on X) Kakao Entertainment, the publisher of massively popular comics such as Solo Leveling, has spent five years investigating into the identities of those behind M, a popular piracy site that has catalogued over 20,000 Japanese comics and 7,000 Korean comics. Accruing about 15 billion page views last October, damage is estimated to cost the industry about 3 trillion won (about 2.3 billion USD) every month.

(Photo: KakaoPage)

Top Piracy Site Likely Shutting Down

According to the report, suspect identities have been found for three of its executives, including the founder. Kakao Entertainment said the following about the update, "If we identify the operator, we will be able to take civil and criminal action against each individual for violating copyright law, which will likely lead to a more fundamental solution to the problem of illegal distribution." As KBS also notes, this is part of Kakao Entertainment's efforts to work together with Japan on a larger solution to the issue.

Fans likely have noticed a greater effort to combat piracy in the last few years especially as not only are publishers working towards having more availability for each of their works through official online sources, but through the teamwork mentioned by Kakao Entertainment in this report. Both the Korean and Japanese comics industries are becoming more of a worldwide endeavor, and it's these efforts that the publishers behind them are also trying to protect by limiting piracy with legal action where they can. But identifying the suspects is only the start in a much a longer process.

Rick and Morty: Ice-T Finally Makes Official Guest Star Debut https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-who-does-ice-t-play-voice-magma-q/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 23:17:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 5a93c050-6717-47f9-8e59-043eaad9140e

Rick and Morty Season 7 finally snagged rap/actor icon Ice-T for a guest star spot on the show - a collaboration that's been a longtime coming (8+ years), since technically speaking "Ice-T" already made an appearance way back in Season 2!

If you don't remember the before times, Rick and Morty Season 2 Episode 5 "Get Schwifty" saw Rick and Morty called up to be Earth's defenders in a galactic musical competition/reality show, where the stakes for losing were planetary obliteration. The timing was ill-fated for Earth, as most of the music industry stars get killed in an earthquake that struck the Grammy Awards - leaving behind just Ice-T to serve as Rick's collaborator on a dope music track that will please the god-like Cromulons.

"Get Schwifty" didn't use the voice of the real Ice-T, for its caricature, instead letting Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon play the role. The animated series then doubled down on things by including a post-credits scene that set up a whole new mythos for "Ice," revealing him to be the member of an alien race from Alphabetrium, whose true form was "Water-T." last seen, "Water" was headed off to defend his planet of Alphabet-themed beings from the malevolent Numbericons.

Ice-T's Rick and Morty Role Revealed

(Photo: Adult Swim)

In Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 8, we get "Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie", which takes the post-credits trailer from Season 2 and turns it into a full-fledged movie-style episode. The saga of Water-T and the Alphabetrium people starts right where we left off with the Numbericons attacking, and that's when the voice of the real Ice-T is revealed to be playing the part of the father of Rick and Morty's Ice-T, "Magma-Q."

(The Real) Ice-T gets a fitting arc in the episode: he's killed in the initial Numbericon invasion but returns in the climatic act of the story as a Force ghost to give Water-T the full scope of his power needed to become "Magma-T" and battle big bad villain Infinity. Ice-T didn't have to break from his cool persona, bringing as much smooth edge to Magma-Q as you'd expect from the Law & Order star. The real fun was in seeing

Edge of Tomorrow Star Has Disappointing Update on Sequel https://comicbook.com/anime/news/edge-of-tomorrow-sequel-update-status-emily-blunt-tom-cruise/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 22:52:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 9badb543-e980-403a-b42a-06fc3502f97c

The sci-fi adventure Edge of Tomorrow has earned itself a passionate following in the decade since its release, with interest in a sequel growing each year among fans, though star Emily Blunt recently noted how, despite the creative team's interest in a follow-up, the amount of time that has passed since the original film's release is making a sequel seem more unlikely. Blunt starred alongside Tom Cruise in the picture, with Blunt noting that one roadblock is also just how busy the actor is with massive blockbusters. With Cruise and original director Doug Liman set to reunite on another action film in the near future, it's possible that this could spark even more discussions between them about finally returning to the world of Edge of Tomorrow.

"Doug and I talk all the time about it," Blunt shared with Variety. "I know Tom wants to do it, hopefully, at some point. But it's timing, but it's also been ten years since we made it ... There was an amazing script in the works, but I think it would only have worked if we shot it eight years ago. I'm not saying we're that ancient, but you have to factor in it's been ten years."

An Edge of Tomorrow sequel marks a rare instance in which, every time the topic comes up, the stars and filmmakers behind the project express interest, yet no substantial plans for such a concept ever gestate. Just earlier this year, Blunt similarly expressed her interest in developing a follow-up.

When asked by the Happy Sad Confused podcast whether she should stop being asked about a sequel, Blunt confirmed, "No, I mean, I wish there could be one." In regards to whether she's ever read a script, the actor added, "Yes, we did. There was one that Doug slithered over to me. But I would love to make it a reality, I just don't know when or how. And how many Mission: Impossibles does he need? Come back to the side where you can ... Wasn't he brilliant as the cowardly hero? Incredible."

In the 2014 film, inspired by the Japanese light novel All You Need is Kill, written by Hiroshi Sakurazaka with illustrations provided by Yoshitoshi Abe, "When Earth falls under attack from invincible aliens, no military unit in the world is able to beat them. Maj. William Cage (Cruise), an officer who has never seen combat, is assigned to a suicide mission. Killed within moments, Cage finds himself thrown into a time loop, in which he relives the same brutal fight -- and his death -- over and over again. However, Cage's fighting skills improve with each encore, bringing him and a comrade (Blunt) ever closer to defeating the aliens."

Stay tuned for updates on an Edge of Tomorrow sequel.

New Death Battle Episode Reexamines Goku vs Superman https://comicbook.com/anime/news/goku-vs-superman-death-battle/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 22:40:00 +0000 Megan Peters 41cb5d72-71ef-43cf-a814-23bd7db8377a

It has happened again, guys. Death Battle has been an institution on YouTube for years, and the channel has pitched some of the wildest fights in entertainment. Of course, this means Death Battle has tried time and again to nail the odds of Superman vs Goku. And now, Death Battle has redone the math with its latest Dragon Ball x DC Comics crossover special.

Yes, that is right! Death Battle has done a third take on Superman vs Goku. The new video, which can be seen above, asks if the fight odds have changed as of late given its heroes' new abilities. However, it turns out Death Battle is confident in Superman winning yet again.

The entire video is a fascinating watch as Superman's powers are broken down using all kinds of physics. As for Goku, his new powers like Ultra Instinct are given consideration. So while Death Battle found Goku to have more martial arts experience and better mobility, he could not overcome the counters Superman has.

For decades now, the Internet has always joked about the outcome of Superman vs Goku, and this Death Battle comes close to replicating its odds for real. Goku is incredibly strong, yes, but not even Ultra Instinct gives him enough oomph to take down Superman. Once the Kryptonian enters his Theta State, he is just about unbeatable, but Goku puts up a good fight in this scenario. And rather than being mad about the loss, well - you know Superman would make Goku want to train all the more.

What do you make of this latest Death Battle? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has dropped it first trailer, and fans of the Monsterverse franchise are buzzing about it. From the plotline that will introduce a whole new threat to both Godzilla and Kong - to the designs for the two titular titans themselves, it's clear that this film is a spectacle "event" that viewers can't ignore.

Godzilla x Kong and Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam WIngard is teasing fans with new secrets about how the film was made, and how much of their eyes should (or should not) believe:

"So much of the film is entirely animated CG shots; so much of it is just pure imagination," Wingard told IGN. "We have some sequences going up to about eight minutes long, where it's just the monsters doing their thing, and so the movie really allows the monsters to tell their own narrative in a visual, nonverbal way."

If you followed the press interviews for Godzilla vs. Kong, then you know that Adam Wingard's statement above is really just the director relishing in completing a goal he set for himself when doing the first film. While doing press for Godzilla vs. Kong, Wingard said that he believed "people are ready for it" when it came to doing MonsterVerse movies with far less human character focus. Now, it sounds like that's exactly what we're getting.

What Is Godzilla x Kong About?

(Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures)

"This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence - and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."

Already from the Godzilla x Kong trailer we have loads of monster-on-monster drama that is set to unfold in this film. Significant developments happening within the Hollow Earth, with the reveal of a whole new realm where an army of ape-like Titans is seemingly preparing for war. It's already a guessing game as to how much of the movie even requires human characters to convey the story - or if it will be more like Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, a film that had long stretches of just the apes interacting with one another. Based on what Wingard is saying, the latter seems very likely. We'll see how it plays with fans, at a time when Japan's new Godzilla Minus One film is being praised for re-introducing the human element into the mix.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has a theatrical release date of April 12, 2024.

How to Watch Studio Ghibli's The Boy and the Heron https://comicbook.com/anime/news/studio-ghibli-the-boy-and-the-heron-watch/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 22:14:00 +0000 Megan Peters 64adbe0f-886a-4d83-a6f4-32c3b818c256

It is almost time for Studio Ghibli to make its triumphant return to U.S. theaters. This week marks the long-awaited release of The Boy and the Heron, after all. The movie made its debut in Japan earlier this year, and director Hayao Miyazaki has earned top marks for the project. So if you want to watch The Boy and the Heron, we are breaking down all you need to know about the movie.

As of today, IMAX previews of The Boy and the Heron have begun, so fans with nearby events can check out the film early. As of December 6th, theatrical previews will go live all across the United States. And of course, the movie itself has its official premiere date on December 8th in the United States.

For those curious about streaming, well - we have bad news for you. The Boy and the Heron is not out on streaming anywhere at this moment. The Studio Ghibli film is working through its theatrical window in Japan as well as other markets. So for now, the only way to watch The Boy and the Heron is to check it out in theaters.

If you are not familiar with this new Studio Ghibli film, it is the most recent feature film to go live under Miyazaki. Back in 2016, the world learned the director had exited retirement to make a new film, and The Boy and the Heron has been in the works since. Despite production delays due to COVID-19, Miyazaki was able to see the movie through after seven years of work. And according to recent interviews with Studio Ghibli president Toshio Suzuki, the director is already putting together stories for new projects.

As for The Boy and the Heron, the coming-of-age fantasy has earned little but praise since its debut. For more info on the Miyazaki masterpiece, you can read its official synopsis here: "Mahito, a young 12-year-old boy, struggles to settle in a new town after his mother's death. However, when a talking heron informs Mahito that his mother is still alive, he enters an abandoned tower in search of her, which takes him to another world."

Netflix's One Piece Star Mackenyu Recounts His Most Challenging Scene https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-netflix-zoro-mihawks/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 21:12:00 +0000 Megan Peters e525901a-3c41-4615-878b-a87db9b5ec4a

Earlier this year, the world was introduced to the power of Netflix's One Piece. Despite a host of worries from fans, the live-action adaptation managed to prove anime's curse on Hollywood wrong. The successful original has shattered records at Netflix, and much of its success is due to the show's top-notch cast. And in a recent interview, the actor behind Roronoa Zoro admitted his biggest acting challenge on set came along with Mihawk.

Appeared at German Film and Comic Con, Mackenyu opened up about his latest work with Netflix. It was there the actor recounted his most challenge work as Zoro, and Mackenyu said any scene he did with Mihawks made him extra self-aware.

"[The most challenging moment] was with Mihawk. It's a heavy scene for Zoro and it is a very iconic scene in One Piece. I did not want to mess it up," Mackenyu admitted. Carrying on, the actor also said he struggled to stay awake in certain scenes thanks to Zoro's love of napping.

"It was very hard to keep awake when I am lying on the bed unconscious. I was so sleepy. I think I did kind of fall asleep."

Of course, Mackenyua's work as Zoro managed to impress fans across the globe. Upon its launch in August, Netflix's One Piece beat out shows like Wednesday with its opening numbers. The show went on to spend well over a month in the site's top ten most-watched series, so it goes without saying One Piece went the distance. Now, One Piece season two has been ordered by Netflix, and we're sure Mackenyu will face some more intense scenes when the show returns.

If you have not check out Netflix's One Piece, the series is streaming right now. So for more info on Eiichiro Oda's hit tale, you can read its official synopsis here: "As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world..."

Dragon Ball: Tap Into Your Inner Vegeta With These Luxe Heels https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-anime-cosplay-vegeta-heels/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 20:10:00 +0000 Megan Peters 45a4407d-7b0a-4de2-80d9-31a45abc3098

When you think about fashion in anime, some pretty big series come to mind. From Nana to Sailor Moon and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, fashion comes up in anime more often than you'd think. Still, there aren't many who would credit Dragon Ball as fashion forward. The iconic anime doesn't stand out with its clothing, but now, it seems Nordstrom has a viral buy on hand that turns Vegeta into runway material.

As you can see below, the piece is question comes courtesy of Jeffrey Campbell. The brand, which is known for churning out its name brand shoes, isn't afraid to step outside of the box. That is what pushed the designer to release its Motorsport Stiletto Boot, and Dragon Ball fans have noticed some... very obvious similarities with it.

I mean, you just have to look at the shoe to see. This boot-heel combo is the perfect shoe for any Dragon Ball cosplayer who wants to give Vegeta a feminine touch. And if you can walk in these nearly five-inch heels, more power to you.

"Color-pop trim and quilted paneling go full throttle on this motorsport-inspired faux-leather boot sharpened by a metallic stiletto heel and pointy toe," Jeffrey Campbell describes the shoe.

Pricex at at $270 USD here at Nordstrom, this shoe is not cheap by any means, so you can consider it a huge cosplay investment. There aren't many sizes left in these heels either, so keep that in mind as you prep your looks for conventions next year. If this Dragon Ball shoe fits your idea, well - you might want to get them sooner rather than later! These heels have gone viral, and it won't be long before the anime fandom sells Nordstrom out.

What do you think about this take on Vegeta...? Do you want to see a Dragon Ball cosplay pull these off? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

But that's not enough to stop him from enrolling in one of the world's most prestigious hero academies."

Spy x Family Pits Yor Against Chun-Li in Special Street Fighter Anime https://comicbook.com/anime/news/spy-x-family-street-fighter-anime/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 16:39:00 +0000 Megan Peters c45d9301-4800-4f12-86e2-2efd642f419c

These days, Spy x Family is everywhere you look. From television to theaters, the hit anime is thriving. Of course, the series' success made it an easy pick for Street Fighter to collab with. And now, an anime special has gone live that pits Yor Forger against Chun-Li of all people.

As you can see below, the epic throw down was inked by WIT Studio to hype the collaboration. Street Fighter puts Chun-Li on the screen in her usual blue outfit while Yor suits up in her assassin gear. Fighting against a Street Fighter backdrop, the two heroines are incredibly powerful. They match each other blow for blow, and things only get more intense from there.

After all, you know Chun-Li loves to throw kicks, and Yor feels the same. At the end of the promo, the two fighters are shown locking legs in a cross during battle. The stalemate puts a smile on Yor's lips, and even Chun-Li looks pleased about the whole thing. So of course, fans want nothing more than to see more of this fight.

For now, Yor vs Chun-Li is the only fight we've been given as part of this collaboration. We can only hope Loid and Yuri take part in the event somehow. While Street Fighter prepares to drop its next game, Spy x Family has its own big release on the horizon. This month will mark the launch of Spy x Family Code: White, after all. The movie will be the first for Spy x Family, and its original story promises to take the Forger Family on an overseas trip.

If you love this Spy x Family collaboration, you can always revisit Yor's previous fights from the anime. The hit series is streaming everywhere from Crunchyroll to Hulu. So for more information on Spy x Family, you can read its official synopsis below:

"World peace is at stake and secret agent Twilight must undergo his most difficult mission yet-pretend to be a family man. Posing as a loving husband and father, he'll infiltrate an elite school to get close to a high-profile politician. He has the perfect cover, except his wife's a deadly assassin and neither knows each other's identity. But someone does, his adopted daughter who's a telepath!"

Godzilla Minus One Plus Two New Action Figures Equals Empty Bank Accounts https://comicbook.com/movies/news/godzilla-minus-one-plus-two-new-action-figures-equals-empty-bank-accounts/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 16:34:00 +0000 Sean Fallon 0844101a-34cb-4915-8361-fbaf4fb080fb gasaoxhw0aaa6ak.jpg

Godzilla: Minus One is now playing in U.S. theaters, and the reviews have been surprisingly stellar. If you're a mega fan that felt like this film delivered the best Godzilla action in ages, then you might be interested in picking up one of the new figures from Bandai Tamashii Nations and Super 7. The choice is yours:

Godzilla Ultimates Godzilla Minus One 8-inch Scale Figure From Super7 ($85 with free US shipping using the code WINTER79 / launches in September) - See at Entertainment Earth: "Godzilla has risen from the sea to ravage an unsuspecting post-war Japan and it has never looked more terrifying! Based on the same 3D models used for the 2023 film Godzilla Minus One and approved by director Takashi Yamazaki for authenticity, this highly-articulated Toho ULTIMATES! Godzilla Minus One figure measures over 8" tall and 14" long, features intricate sculpt and premium paint detailing, and comes with an interchangeable roaring head- all of which give it a visceral sense of power and danger! If you can overcome the undeniable urge to flee for safety, add this made-to-order Toho ULTIMATES! Godzilla: Minus One to your kaiju collection!"

gasggfdw8aa2ogfdddy.jpg

Godzilla Minus One S.H.MonsterArts Action Figure from Tamashii Nations ($139.99 with free US shipping using the code WINTER79 / aunches in February) - See at Entertainment Earth: "Godzilla from 2023's Godzilla Minus One joins S.H.MonsterArts! Based on the same 3D models used for the film, Godzilla was sculpted and colored by kaiju master Yuji Sakai with supervision of director Takashi Yamazaki for accuracy! A wide range of motion allows poses appropriate for the massive movie monster. The kaiju's tail is segmented, and the toes are independently movable! The Godzilla Minus One 2023 S.H.MonsterArts Action Figure stands approximately 6 1/3-inches tall."

Recently, ComicBook.com had the opportunity to talk with Godzilla Minus One director, Takashi Yamazaki, about his iteration of the giant beast, "I feel that my Godzilla for this Godzilla is very specific for the story because there's a tendency with Godzilla is that he's obviously a massive existence and there can be a tendency to split the story a bit versus this is going on with Godzilla, this is going on with the people or the government and things like that. However, one of my goals was to have a good balance between the Godzilla side of the story and the human story. So in Godzilla Minus One, I think it's a lot more unique because you're looking at the individual relationship, what kind of relationship they have to Godzilla, how they see Godzilla. So it's individuals and also civilians that are really focused on their story and relationship to Godzilla. So I think that's unique out of all the Godzillas."

Starring Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe, Godzilla Minus One will take us back to a point shortly after World War II when Japan's economy and military were in shambles. Apparently, Godzilla doesn't have a problem kicking a country when it's down. Toho's official synopsis for the film reads:

"After the war, Japan's economic state has been reduced to zero. Godzilla appears and plunges the country into a negative state." Godzilla Minus One will be arriving in Japan on November 3rd, and will then hit North American theaters on December 1st.

Will Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Feature the Son of Kong? https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-x-kong-the-new-empire-kid-kong/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 16:15:00 +0000 Megan Peters a10edf5e-1453-4591-beb9-136eeebc9ce3

It took some time, but at last, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has come through for fans. Over the weekend, the film hit up CCXP in Brazil, and the big MonsterVerse movie showed out. Warner Bros. Discovery used the event to backdrop its first trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and the clip has everyone wondering whether our favorite ape has had a kid.

The whole thing came to light when Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire put out a trailer featuring a very different Kong. The older primate seems to be entrenched in the Hollow Earth, but it turns out he isn't the only ape around. The trailer shows Kong meeting a young reddish-brown ape with green eyes, and it seems the pair are on friendly enough terms.

(Photo: Warner Bros. Discovery)

Of course, the sudden appearance of a young ape in the MonsterVerse has sent fans into a tizzy. It did not take long for theories to crop up about the animal's origins. Many were quick to say this young ape is the son of Kong or perhaps a younger relative. But if you watch the whole trailer for Godzilla x Kong, well - you will find that is not the case.

While Kong and this young ape are friendly, it is clear the two aren't related. The pair don't share many features if any; Kong is very stocky and has the features of a gorilla. As for this kid, they are clearly based off an orangutang. At the end of the trailer, we meet a foe called the Scar King that resembles this kid. It seems the boy is somehow related to the film's major villain, but that won't stop the young ape from following King Kong.

Hopefully, we will learn more about Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in the coming months. The movie is slated to drop in April 2024. So if you want to know more about the movie, you can read the official synopsis for Godzilla x Kong below:

"This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence - and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Is Getting a Special Arc https://comicbook.com/anime/news/cardcaptor-sakura-clear-card-special-arc/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 15:45:00 +0000 Megan Peters e8da405e-c9bb-48a5-b3b6-7790717726cd

Cardcaptor Sakura has been around for ages, and now, it seems the main series has come to a close. After its launch in the '90s, Cardcaptor Sakura returned to the stage some years ago with its Clear Card sequel. This week, the second manga came to a close, but it turns out Cardcaptor Sakura has plans for a comeback already.

The update comes from Nakayoshi itself, the magazine that housed the Cardcaptor Sakura sequel. After the manga's final chapter went live, the magazine announced the series was working on a comeback for its April 2024 issue. It turns out Clear Card will debut a "special arc" next March, so the magical girl series is far from over.

At this point, we know little about this upcoming arc, but it will be set in the canon Cardcaptor Sakura Universe. We can expect to find Sakura Kinomoto in junior high unless some kind of time skip is involved. If that is the case, we might get to see the heroine in high school, and the sight will leave fans begging for a third manga ASAP.

If you are not caught up with Cardcaptor Sakura these days, the hit manga is overseen in English by Kodansha Comics. As for the anime, you can find the Cardcaptor Sakura shows streaming everywhere from Hulu to Crunchyroll. So for those wanting to know more about the manga's sequel, you can read the official synopsis for Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card below:

"Clear Card picks up right where Cardcaptor Sakura left off, with Sakura and Syaoran starting junior high school. With the Final Judgment passed, Sakura thinks school life will be quiet, but then all her cards suddenly turn blank! The mysterious new power she discovers will change how she thinks about her powers..."

Netflix's One Piece Star Teases Some Big Season 2 Action https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-season-2-netflix-zoro-action-tease-mackenyu/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 06:20:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 948160b3-615a-45a5-8368-2e862d0b7dbb

One Piece took over the world when it debuted its new live-action series adaptation with Netflix earlier this Summer, and one of the big stars behind the series is teasing some big action for Roronoa Zoro in Season 2! One Piece was such a massive success for Netflix that it was soon announced that a Season 2 was in the works. Following the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production on One Piece Season 2 is now in full swing as the team behind the series get ready for what's coming down the pipeline for the series next.

Considering some of the arcs and characters from Eiichiro Oda's original One Piece manga that could potentially be adapted in the next wave of episodes next, the star behind the live-action take on Roronoa Zoro, Mackenyu, teased that there's some big action on the way. While playing coy about exactly what we'll be seeing in the coming season, Mackenyu teased during Comic Con Arabia 2023 that fans should, "Expect a lot more in Season 2, including better action fight scenes from Zoro."

How to Be Ready for One Piece Season 2

It's yet to be announced what stories, characters, or fights we'll be seeing in the new episodes, but One Piece Season 2 is now in the works. Netflix has yet to reveal a release date or window for One Piece Season 2 as of the time of this writing, but series creator Eiichiro Oda teased that Chopper would be joining the series for the next wave of episodes. You can find the first season's eight episodes now streaming with Netflix if you wanted to catch up before the second season premieres.

Netflix teases One Piece's first season as such, "Based on Japan's highest-selling manga series in history by Eiichiro Oda, ONE PIECE is a legendary high-seas adventure unlike any other. Monkey D. Luffy is a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom since he can remember. Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, ONE PIECE, to become King of the Pirates! But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy will need to assemble the crew he's always wanted before finding a ship to sail, searching every inch of the vast blue seas, outpacing the Marines, and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn."

Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 9 Promo Released: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-season-7-episode-9-watch-adult-swim/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 05:30:00 +0000 Nick Valdez b37f7fea-67fd-436e-b478-43896a5f6a77

Rick and Morty Season 7 is now at the tail end of its run with Adult Swim this Fall as it enters its final two episodes, and fans have gotten the first look at the penultimate episode with the promo for Episode 9! Rick and Morty Season 7 has been a wild season for many reasons, and while there have been mostly episodes that were self-contained in their own ways, there have also been some massive payoffs for stories that have been in the works for quite a long time. This has had fans wondering about what could be coming in the final episodes.

Rick and Morty has made a habit of subverting expectations with the final episodes of each of its seasons. It could either end up being a one-off adventure that ends the season on a fun note, or episodes that change the series forever. With Rick and Morty Season 7 already doing plenty of this with the episodes seen thus far, that's bringing up so many questions for what's next. Check out the promo for Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 9 below (as spotted by @swimpedia on X):

How to Watch Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 9

Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 9 is titled "Mort: Ragnarick" and will be premiering on Adult Swim on Sunday, December 10th at 11:00PM EST. The episode is teased as such, "Heaven is for real, Broh. I saw it, Broh, I swear." Thankfully there is no planned hiatus or break before the final two episodes release either so now is the perfect time to catch up with everything that's happened in the season so far before it all comes to an end in just a couple of weeks.

If you wanted to do so, you can catch up with Rick and Morty Season 7's episodes so far through Adult Swim's official website (with a cable subscription). Adult Swim teases the new episodes as such, "Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever! It's season seven, and the possibilities are endless: what's up with Jerry? EVIL Summer?! And will they ever go back to the high school?! Maybe not! But let's find out! There's probably less piss than last season. 'Rick and Morty,' 100 years! Or at least until season 10!"

Rick and Morty Just Had an Entire Episode Without Rick https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-episode-without-rick/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 05:14:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 120b6dca-6dca-4b0a-b579-5949e082f01d

Rick and Morty Season 7 has bucked a major trend with the series as it featured its very first episode without a single appearance from Rick! Rick and Morty has been going through a lot of changes this season especially as each episode have shown that the series is finding new directions to evolve in to stay fresh despite how many seasons there are. This includes several one-off adventures focusing on the many side characters, or fleshing out more of the canon that fans had wanted to see. But the newest episode actually does both despite seeming like yet another wacky episodic story.

Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 8, "Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie" not only is a self-contained adventure paying off a joke cliffhanger from way back in the second season, but also fleshes out more of the backstories behind Mr. Goldenfold and Ice-T. But with the new adventure that sees Morty tagging along with the duo as Water-T faced off against the Numbericons, this was the first episode of the season (and of the series, really) without a single appearance from Rick.

Why Rick Was Absent From Rick and Morty

While there have been plenty of Rick and Morty episodes without appearances from Morty, it has not really been the same situation for Rick. Rick Sanchez has been such a pivotal part of the series' world, that it previously seemed impossible to not feature him at all. But this has changed with the newest episode that sees Morty being the only member of the main cast represented with the rest of the episode being dedicated to Mr. Goldenfold and the fight between Alphabetrium and the Numbericons.

After defeating his nemesis earlier in the season, Rick's role has notably been downplayed as Morty or Summer played the proactive part in bringing him into their respective stories. But without him at all, it's certainly an interesting experiment to see if Rick and Morty's extended cast is full of enough personality to hold an episode of their own. This could be a trend we see play out in future seasons of the series as it gets closer to its planned 100 episodes.

Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 8 Recap With Spoilers https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-season-7-episode-8-recap-spoilers/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 04:31:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 0fec6a17-fa1a-4854-bd13-d746b6a1987c

Rick and Morty Season 7 has reached its final few episodes for the year, and Rick and Morty has taken a major swerve with the latest episode focusing on the return of Water-T! Rick and Morty has a history of turning gags into jokes that fans see play out years later, and that's the case for the newest episode of the series as it finally picks up on a cliffhanger seen many seasons ago. Once thought to be just a post-credits joke that revealed Ice-T actually belonged to a species of sentient letters, Rick and Morty is fleshing out this lore even further.

When we had last seen Ice-T during the Season 2 episode, "Get Schwifty," he was revealed to not only be a sentient block of ice, but in reality he was revealed to be "Water-T." This post-credits joke was then left on a cliffhanger and previously thought to be left alone, but several seasons later Rick and Morty has returned to Water T's fight against the Numbericons as he reaches out to Mr. Goldenfold for help to figure out the math needed to defeat the numerical enemy. Here's everything that happened in Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 8, "Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie."

What Happens in Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 8?

  • A recap revisits Ice-T shortly after he heads back to his home planet of Alphabetrium as seen at the end of the "Get Schwifty" episode, but after his exile ends and he becomes "Water-T," his father is killed by the invading Numbericons. But thankfully we finally get to see what happens next as Water-T singlehandedly takes down plenty of the invading forces before putting up a numerical bracket force field to keep them out. It's then revealed that his dying father actually gave him something called "The Eye of Harmony" but he needs someone good at math to translate it. Water-T then teases he knows someone on Earth who can do it.
  • Following the opening credits, Ice-T arrives at Morty's school and it's revealed that he and Mr. Goldenfold have a past beef as Ice-T (who reveals he's now Water-T) owes him a ton of homework. When Morty asks about their pasts, Goldenfold revealed that he tried to teach Water-T math but he refused to learn as a kid. But now that his home's in danger, he wants Goldenfold's help to save it. Water-T then takes Goldenfold on his ship, and Goldenfold drags Morty along for the ride (Morty was in detention for not doing his math homework).
  • Goldenfold realizes the Eye of Harmony has the Pythagorean Theorem on it but needs to solve for it. When Morty then asks even further about why things fell apart between Goldenfold and Water-T, Goldenfold then reveals another look into their past that they became friends at one point as T became more interested in math (because it helped him with his rap). Goldenfold then figures out that the formula leads to a planet named E-10, and Water-T then gives the coordinates to Alphabetrium (only to be betrayed by Oxygen-S, whole reveals himself to be a "secret villain").
  • Heading to E-10, Water-T and the others meet a group of primitive symbols who worship the Eye of Harmony and then hold an Ewok-like party for them as a result (as Morty jokes that they're making good time for it all as a result). Revealing more of their past together, Goldenfold is seen eating with the President (who was "Governor Curtis" back then) when Ice-T wins an award. Ice-T then takes all the credit for it, and it angered Curtis to the point where he kicks Goldenfold out of his life completely because he thinks Goldenfold is both a liar (for claiming to know Ice-T) and won't help him get the youth vote through rap and math.
  • All the while Sinistar Seven (who is the second in command of the Numbericons) tries to take the Eye of Harmony. When Water-T catches up to her, they begin to fight before the Eye of Harmony reveals they actually belong together in a sort of harmony through a series of visions. But before they can get to the bottom of it, Seven's father Lord Dreadnaught appears. It's here that Oxygen-S reveals that he's actually the Number 8.
  • When they're captured, Ice-T explains what really happened when he had accepted the award. It's revealed that his father disapproved of his mathematical rhythm, and it's why Ice-T refused to acknowledge Goldenfold's help. Number 8 then gets all of the power that the Numbericons were seeking, and he becomes the infinity symbol. Killing Lord Dreadnought and taking over the Numbericons in the process, they head to Alphabetrium. Water-T helps free the others by using his Ice-T form's power, and they head to the planet to help save it.
  • Meanwhile, Infinity starts destroying Alphabetrium and all letters and numbers in the process. Sinistar Seven protests this, and Infinity tries to destroy her as a result. Seven then explains that Water T's father's death was actually an assassination because while a piece of ceiling fell on him, it was Eight that actually poisoned it. Thus Infinity is the ultimate enemy of both the numbers and the letters. Teaming up at last, Goldenfold, Water-T, Morty, and Sinistar Seven then perform a song to help bring down Infinity. Water-T's father comes back as a force ghost, and when the song ends, he grants Water-T both the kingdom and new powers as "Magma-T."
  • Magma-T then activates the Eye of Harmony by kissing Seven, and it forms a gun that shoots Infinity in the private parts. Magma-T and Seven then goes on to have a happy ending. Back on Earth, both Morty and Magma-T finally do the homework that Goldenfold wanted all this time. In the post-credits scene, Ice Cube arrives and asks for help and it teases that they'll have a new adventure together.

Everything We Know About Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-x-kong-the-new-empire-trailer-release-date-cast-plot/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 23:30:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo eaa794b9-f3ec-43f2-b54d-5e1fa1953947

Witness the rise of a new empire in the MonsterVerse. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire reigned over CCXP on Sunday, revealing the first-look trailer for the sequel to 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong. After that epic battle of the Titans, the titular kaijus unite against a colossal undiscovered threat lurking deep within Hollow Earth: the Skar King. "For most of human civilization, we believed that life could only exist on the surface of our planet," says Dr. Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall) in the new footage. "What else were we wrong about?"

The trailer for the monster movie raises new questions: Who is "mini-Kong?" What's with King Kong's metal arm gauntlet? And why is Gojira glowing with hot-pink atomic energy? Those answers might have to wait until 2024. Here's everything we know so far about GxK, including its plot, cast, release date, and its place in the MonsterVerse.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Release Date

The Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire trailer states that the new movie is "only in theaters 2024," but the current release date is April 12, 2024.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Cast

Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry reprise their respective roles from Godzilla vs. Kong as Dr. Illene Andrews, a Monarch anthropological linguist, and Bernie Hayes, an ex-Apex Cybernetics technician turned Titans truther and podcaster Bernie Hayes. Kaylee Hottle returns as Jia, the orphaned Skull Island native who formed a kinship with Kong. The cast includes Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast) as Trapper and Fala Chen (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Alex Ferns (The Batman), and Rachel House (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) in undisclosed roles.

What Is Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire About?

The fifth film in the rebooted MonsterVerse, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong and "pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence - and our own," the official synopsis states. "The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."

Who Is the Villain in Godzilla x Kong?

The red ape king of the Titanus Kong species is an Orangutan-like ancient ape known as the Skar King.

godzilla-x-kong-skar-king-monsterverse.png

"We wanted to come up with an antagonist that would both be a match for Kong and Godzilla, and that's really hard to do," director Adam Wingard told IGN. "There's a lot more to this character and how he's a threat, and that's going to be something that's going to be fun to kind of dole out."

Who Wrote and Directed Godzilla x Kong?

Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs. Kong, You're Next, Death Note) returned to direct the sequel written by Terry Rossio (Godzilla vs. Kong, the Pirates of the Caribbean series) and Simon Barrett (You're Next) and Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight), from a story by Rossio & Wingard & Barrett, based on the character Godzilla owned and created by TOHO Co., Ltd.

Is Godzilla x Kong in the MonsterVerse?

The MonsterVerse canon includes:

  • Godzilla (2014)
  • Skull Island: The Birth of Kong (2017) prequel comic
  • Kong: Skull Island (2017)
  • Godzilla: Aftershock (2019) comic book
  • Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
  • Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
  • Godzilla: Dominion (2021) prequel comic
  • Kingdom Kong (2021) prequel comic
  • Skull Island (2023) animated series
  • Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023) television series
  • Godzilla x Kong: The Hunted (2024) graphic novel prequel
  • Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)

Godzilla x Kong: Son of Kong

Yes, the Titanus Kong infant that Hayes calls "mini-Kong" appears to be the MonsterVerse version of Little Kong, the son of King Kong, an albino gorilla discovered on Skull Island in 1933's Son of Kong.

godzilla-x-kong-son-of-kong.png

In 2021, it was reported that Wingard is attached to direct a planned Godzilla x Kong sequel for Legendary with the working title Son of Kong.

Why Is Godzilla Pink in Godzilla x Kong?

Is Godzilla getting an upgrade? Fans theories suspect that Godzilla emerges from frozen hibernation after "recharging" his bio-nuclear abilities in the pink, glowing energy lurking beneath the frozen tundra.

godzilla-x-kong-why-is-godzilla-pink.jpg

In the Godzilla vs. Kong novelization, it's stated that Godzilla draws his neon-blue atomic breath from an energy source in Hollow Earth in the planet's core. If the Titan has spent years hibernating and absorbing geothermal radiation, it could explain Godzilla's pink hue.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Trailer: Why Is Godzilla Pink? https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-x-kong-trailer-pink-godzilla/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 22:26:00 +0000 Megan Peters 21b121b2-f059-40de-b704-b992e6e38eb1

Godzilla fans are living large right now. From television to film, the movie monster can do no wrong, and fans of the MonsterVerse are happy for it. Not long ago, the IP went wide by sharing its first trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and it has fans buzzing all over social media. And to be honest, they all want to know what's going on with Pink Godzilla.

If you have seen the trailer for Godzilla x Kong, you will know what we're talking about. The trailer begins with a look at the Earth before the Hollow Earth comes into view. Something is about to shake up the balance of MUTOs across the land, and Godzilla will need to respond. For part of the trailer, we see the beast in a cocoon of sorts, and the trailer ends with Godzilla coming out of his hibernation with a pink makeover.

godzilla-kong.jpg
(Photo: Warner Bros. Discovery)

From his eyes to his dorsal fins, everything is pink here, and that is a definite change from what we're used to. In the MonsterVerse so far, the beast has been shown with a blue atomic aura, but now that has changed. Sadly, there is no good canon explanation for this, but Godzilla fans have some theories about the hue shift.

Given this trailer, we know Godzilla went into some hibernation after the events of Godzilla vs Kong to heal. During that time, it seems the titan is able to power up, and this time away helps Godzilla unlock his pink form. It could be due to an evolutionary process or a rare source of radiation. But either way, it is safe to say the pink coloration here proves Godzilla is growing stronger. You know, as if he were a Saiyan in Dragon Ball!

As for the real reason behind this color change, well - it comes down to good business. Godzilla looks largely the same in all the MonsterVerse films, and that means merchandise sales can stagnate. If you slap a new color coat on the atomic beast, you make new sales. It really is that simple. So while Godzilla's new power may mean something about his abilities in canon, it is all about toy sales in the real world.

Hopefully, we will find out more about Godzilla x Kong: The New World in the coming weeks. The movie is slated to drop in April 2024, so the film's marketing cycle is about to ramp up. So in the meantime, maybe Godzilla can study Super Saiyan Rose and get some tips on how to handle his new pink aura.

Rick and Morty Highlights "Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie" in New Clip https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-season-7-rise-of-the-numbericons/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 21:20:00 +0000 Megan Peters 4a172f39-46b7-42b3-9524-6c28ccd01cb5

Rick and Morty is getting ready for its next outing now that Sunday is here. Adult Swim brought the hit comedy back to life for season seven weeks ago, and now episode eight is on the horizon. "Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie" is just about here, and a new clip has been shared ahead of the Rick and Morty comeback.

As you can see below, well - the NSFW clip is short and to the point. We can see Morty has been chained up as a prisoner in this shot with another man. The two have encountered the entity known as Water T, and the alien isn't shy about what he wants.

"You wanna go, old man? I'll f-ck you until you love me. I'll put your kids through college. I'd f-cking take you to Boca Rotan, you motherf-cker."

So yeah, there you have it. This is now what we'd call your average hostage situation, you know?

At eight episodes in, Rick and Morty season seven has been a solid hit for Adult Swim despite its shaky start. After all, the show made headlines at the start of 2023 as co-creator and star Justin Roiland had their 2020 arrest made public. Accused of domestic assault, Roiland found himself embattled in the industry as colleagues shared their own upsetting encounters with the comedian. Adult Swim went on to end its relationship with Roiland, sparking a worldwide hunt for the new voice of Rick and Morty. Harry Belden and Ian Cardoni were asked to take the jobs, and the pair have earned solid praise since Rick and Morty season seven began.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Trailer, Poster Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-vs-kong-the-new-empire-trailer-poster/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 21:06:00 +0000 Megan Peters 363f3f8f-728d-4d31-852a-d8cd9208628f

Are you ready for the biggest monsters in movie to make their comeback? If so, then you are in luck! Next year, we will see Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire go live, and the film just dropped its first trailer for fans alongside a poster.

As you can see above, the first trailer brings Godzilla roaring to the big screen while Kong defends his legacy. We follow the two titans some time after their feud in Godzilla vs Kong. It seems this movie will find our favorite monsters battling against an uprising of MUTOs across the globe, and they'll be led by a terrifying foe.

godzilla-kong.jpg

And who might that foe be? Well, it seems a face from Godzilla's past is about to resurface. Thanks to this trailer and some previous promos, we know the movie's villain is the Scar King. The ancient titan used to run the Hollow Earth, but their desire for power grew greedy. Centuries ago, Godzilla was able to trap the Scar King in the Hollow Earth, and he's been training hard for vengeance. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will follow Scar King as he enacts his plan, and it will fall to our heroes to stop him.

If you are eager to check out Godzilla x Kong, you should know the movie is slated to drop in April 2024. In the meantime, you can keep up with the MonsterVerse on the small screen. Earlier this year, Apple TV+ brought Monarch: Legacy of Monsters to life, and it has been filling in gaps for fans with a ton of nasty titans.

Want to know more about Godzilla x Kong? You can read up on the movie's official synopsis here courtesy of Warner Bros. Discovery: "This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence - and our own. Mobile Suit Gundam Requiem for Vengeance Trailer Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/mobile-suit-gundam-requiem-for-vengeance-trailer/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 20:47:00 +0000 Megan Peters db6925ec-d9ed-43a6-9deb-55645b16a72e

Are you ready for a brand-new take on Mobile Suit Gundam? If so, then the team at Bandai Namco Film Works has heard your prayers. Today, a trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam Requiem of Vengeance went live, and it brings the Gundam Universe into the world of 3DCG.

Created using Unreal Engine 5, the ultra-realistic animation found in Requiem of Vengeance is downright gorgeous. This new anime promised to bring the One Year War center stage once more, but we will focus on a very different part of the battle. Requiem of Vengeance will take us to the European front, so fans can get ready for a wild ride.

As you can imagine, Gundam fans are eager to see the franchise tackle a new visual style. Over the years, the Gundam IP has done it all, and this Unreal Engine take is second to none. Bandai Namco Film Works teamed with Safehouse Co. to bring this animation style to life. So hopefully, the anime itself lives up to the visuals of this gorgeous trailer.

If you are not familiar with this new Gundam project, Requiem of Vengeance was announced at Anime Expo 2023. It was there Gavin Hignight, executive producer, said this movie looked to Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt for influence alongside Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team. When the anime goes live, fans will get to see how an unseen piece of the One Year War fared from the Zeon side's POV. At this time, no release date for Requiem of Vengeance has been released, but fans are hopeful the Gundam project will launch in 2024.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Trailer Brings Godzilla to Light: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/monarch-legacy-of-monsters-show-trailer/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 20:13:00 +0000 Megan Peters dfb6799f-5b58-4eba-a4ae-efdffbf05a40

It is a good time to be a Godzilla fan. If you did not know, the titan roared to life in U.S. theaters this weekend thanks to Godzilla Minus One. Now, it seems the monster is ready to take action on the small screen. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters just put out a new trailer, and it gives us an all-new view of Godzilla in battle.

As you can see below, the gorgeous trailer checks in on the second half of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. We follow the show's intrepid heroes as they continue to uncover one of many secrets surrounding Monarch. And of course, we get a peek at some MUTOs along the way.

Godzilla is shown in one epic scene fighting a dragon, and the flying beast is no simple threat. After all, it seems this dragon is able to breathe out an ion beam of sorts. This new beast is just one of many to have debuted in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. And of course, fans are eager to see Godzilla take center stage after getting a few teases of him in the show's first half.

If you are not caught up with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the show is still airing weekly. You can find new episodes exclusively on Apple TV+ in the United States. As for the MonsterVerse, this show marks the franchise's first live-action television outing. Next, the IP will head back to theaters as Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is slated to drop in April 2024.

Black Clover Manga Confirms Return Date https://comicbook.com/anime/news/black-clover-manga-2024-return-date/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 19:56:00 +0000 Megan Peters b8d5fcf4-7133-4386-bb48-a0a2bfa7dbb7

It feels like it has been ages since Black Clover shifted from its weekly schedule. Earlier this year, Shonen Jump said goodbye to the magical manga as Jump Giga took control of the hit. It has been months since we have seen head or tail of Asta, but that will change soon. After all, Jump Giga has a new chapter on the way, and it will be debuting at the end of December.

For those out of the loop, Black Clover has been out of commission for months now. Earlier this year, reports went live confirming Black Clover's move from Weekly Shonen Jump to Jump Giga. The big move meant Black Clover would put out four chapters a year which is a massive shift from its previous weekly run. So of course, readers are eager to see what Black Clover has been up to.

As it turns out, creator Yuki Tabata has been busy. Jump Giga will put out Black Clover chapter 369 on December 25th. It will feature a 28-page chapter and several color pages. For fans in Japan, the Jump Giga magazine will come with a special Black Clover poster celebrating the comeback. So as you can see, the magazine is very excited for Asta to join its crew.

So far, we have no idea how much longer Black Clover will run, but Tabata is hopefully enjoying a better work schedule. There is no way around the difficulty that comes with publishing a weekly manga. From One Piece to My Hero Academia, some of manga's top series have run into production issues time and again given their weekly run. Tabata admitted his grueling work-life balance is what prompted him to move Black Clover to a quarterly release. Now, fans are ready to see how this shift has helped Tabata, so the expectations for chapter 369 are high.

If you are not caught up with Black Clover just yet, you have a few weeks to prepare. The Black Clover manga can be found on the Manga Plus app. So for more info on Tabata's series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical powers, Asta is the only one in this world without any. At the age of fifteen, both receive grimoires, magic books that amplify their holder's magic. Asta's is a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponent's spells. Being opposite but good rivals, Yuno and Asta are ready for the hardest of challenges to achieve their common dream: to be the Wizard King. Giving up is never an option!"

Crunchyroll is the go-to home for all things anime, so subscribers best listen up! If you have a history with the streaming service, you may be able to submit a claim as part of a class action lawsuit against Crunchyroll. The deadline to apply runs up in less than 10 days, so here's what you need to know about the ordeal.

Earlier this year, a class action lawsuit was filed against Crunchyroll for allegedly disclosing personally identifiable information of its users to third parties without consent. Crunchyroll was quick to deny the accusation but agreed to a settlement in order to avoid further litigation costs. As such, a $16 million USD settlement was made, and users have until December 12th to apply.

As for those eligible for the settlement, anyone submitted a claim must have been a registered user or viewed a service owned by Crunchyroll from September 8, 2020 to September 20, 2023. If that is you, eligible users must submit a claim online or through the mail by December 12th to get part of the settlement.

Currently, each affected user under the settlement is entitled to roughly $30. The official amount will be announced at a later date after final approval is given to the settlement. This verdict will be given on December 19th. So for more info on the settlement, you can visit the class action case's website here. So if you were impacted by this Crunchyroll case, be sure to submit your claim by December 12 if you want reparations.

Godzilla Minus One Is Topping U.S. Box Office Predictions https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-minus-one-box-office-united-states/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 18:08:00 +0000 Megan Peters 5aa65f59-cc35-4481-9102-58dc6ea13e32 It is just Godzilla's world at this point and we're living in it. These days, the MonsterVerse is all over television thanks to Apple TV+, and the series will return to theaters next year. But right now, well - Godzilla Minus One is running the show. The hit movie just launched in America and toppled all box office expectations to break a historic record.

The update went live after Godzilla Minus One had its opening weekend in the United States. Despite lower predictions, Godzilla Minus One overcame the odds to earn $11 million USD in its first three-days. This total marks the biggest opening weekend for any Japanese live-action film at the domestic box office.

Oh, and that's not all. If you want to compare this opening to Shin Godzilla, there is no contest. Godzilla Minus One made 5.5x more than Shin Godzilla did in its opening weekend as the previous kaiju flick earned $1.9 million.

The hype for Godzilla Minus One has been building since the film debuted in Japan. Netizens were quick to praise the movie as one of the best monster flick in ages, and Godzilla Minus One did not disappoint. With fresh ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, Godzilla Minus One marks a new era for Toho's Godzilla Universe. All of this excitement lead the film to earn $2.1 million in previews alone. So clearly, social media heeded the call.

If you have not checked out Godzilla Minus One, you have time to check out the gorgeous monster movie. The film is set against the backdrop of World War II as we find a war veteran named Koichi on the brink. After a run-in with Godzilla, the man is left scrambling for purchase, and things get worse when the monster turns its eyes to Japan. With no help from the outside or the government, the people of Tokyo must band together to stop the atomic monster. But of course, no one ever said beating Godzilla would be easy.

No, Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Did Not Announce Season 3 https://comicbook.com/anime/news/no-jujutsu-kaisen-creator-did-not-announce-season-3/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 17:50:00 +0000 Megan Peters 732cca9a-fcc5-4f44-947f-c0320a2b1906

If you know anything about anime these days, then you know Jujutsu Kaisen is at the top. The supernatural shonen made its anime debut in 2020, and Gege Akutami's story has only grown bigger since. In recent years, the artist has become quite involved with the show may it be through supervision or otherwise. But despite a viral rumor, no - Akutami did not confirm Jujutsu Kaisen season three is a go.

The whole thing went live on X (Twitter) thanks to an impersonation page. An account with the name Gege Akutami caught the eye of fans as it posted what looked like a poster for Jujutsu Kaisen season three. The artwork put the Culling Game center stage, so a number of netizens checked it out. In fact, the post earned well over three million views before fans stepped in to stop the rumor.

After all, the X (Twitter) page does not belong to Akutami. The manga creator does not have any public social media presence. While artists like Kohei Horikoshi and Yoshihiro Togashi use social media, Akutami keeps out of the spotlight, so this season three rumor was easy to bunk. However, it did get out of hand before social media cautioned fans.

At this moment, Jujutsu Kaisen season two is still underway, so the Shibuya Incident arc has more to go through. MAPPA Studios has not touched upon the future of Jujutsu Kaisen, but its popularity has netizens feeling good about what's next. The only issue standing in the anime's way is its studio's controversial work conditions. In the past month, a number of animators on Jujutsu Kaisen have stood up against MAPPA Studio for its outrageous production schedule. So hopefully, these internal issues will be addressed before Jujutsu Kaisen season three gets off the ground.

Want to know more about Jujutsu Kaisen? The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll right now. So if you want to know more about the series, you can read the official synopsis for Jujutsu Kaisen below:

"Yuji Itadori is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a classmate who has been attacked by curses, he eats the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, taking the curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with Ryomen Sukuna. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori is admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights the curses... and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back."

Dragon Ball Star Masako Nozawa Wants to Act Until She's 182 https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-z-masako-nozawa-age/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 17:16:00 +0000 Megan Peters c11be4fe-dda8-4e1d-b62f-9b95db15aaa1

There are talent voice actors, and then there are people like Masako Nozawa. Over the last few decades, the actress has proven themselves time and again to anime fans. From Doraemon to Dragon Ball, Nozawa's legacy runs wide, and it seems the voice actor is game to work until she's the oldest lady on the planet.

The information comes from Nozawa herself as the 87-year-old actress appeared at the 71st Kan Kikuchi Prize Awards. Taking to the stage, Nozawa admitted she has no plans on retiring anytime soon, and she would love to act until she's about 200 years old. So between you and me, modern medicine best find a way to make this happen!

"I want to continue voice acting until I'm 182 years old," Nozawa shared with her fellow actors. At her current age, Nozawa has been working since the 1960s, and the Japanese actress is still going strong with her roles.

After all, anime fans have long heard Nozawa as the voice of Son Goku in Dragon Ball. She originated the role decades ago, and Nozawa still voices Goku to this day. She also oversees the voices of Gohan and Goten, so Nozawa keeps her voice within the family so far as Dragon Ball is concerned.

As for her other work, Nozawa has starred in Gegege no Kitaro as its titular characters. The actress has also worked on Galaxy Express 999, Doraemon, Digimon, and even One Piece. Referred to as the "Eternal Boy", Nozawa has gained fame for voicing a number of high-profile boys in the shonen genre. Still, the actress has proven her versatility in the recording booth, and that is why many netizens consider Nozawa as one of the best voice actors to date.

Soon, Nozawa will add another Dragon Ball title to her resume. The actress is expected to reprise her role as Goku in Dragon Ball Daima, a new anime TV series that will debut in 2024. The show will follow Goku as he and his cohorts are turned into kids by a rogue with. So with the help of the Kaioshin, Goku will be forced to travel the universe in a bid to return himself to normal.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Releases New Images https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-x-kong-the-new-empire-image/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 16:28:00 +0000 Megan Peters c213efdc-bcd0-4796-b107-0a47926f29d0

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is ready to take the MonsterVerse to a new level. While Monarch: Legacy of Monarch has taken the franchise to television, all eyes are on Hollywood's next move. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire promises to show us a new side of our favorite titans, and we've been given a brand-new look at the movie.

As you can see below, the new images come courtesy of IGN in the wake of CCXP in Brazil. The big convention saw Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire take over the floor, and director Adam Wingard made an appearance to boot. Of course, this means the movie's publicity team was working overtime this weekend, so fans were gifted with three new stills from Godzilla x Kong.

godzilla-kong.png
(Photo: Warner Bros. Discovery)

As you can see above, the stills each focus on different faces. In one, we are given a good look at the movie's human leads including actor Dan Stevens. The group seems to be walking through a compound hallway of sorts while they wear military fatigues. So you guessed it! The military is going to be servicing Monarch and the MUTOs in some way.

Now, the other two stills are the ones stirring conversation. After all, the first puts Kong center stage, and the ape is looking older than ever. Donning a thick beard and brows, Kong seems to be wearing a fur shawl while exploring the Hollow Earth with a spear in hand. As for the other image, well - we can see Godzilla in shadow. It seems the atomic titan has cocooned itself deep under the water to absorb radiation, and Godzilla will surely reemerge more powerful than ever.

Luckily, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will not pit these titans against one another. The two went head-to-head in Godzilla vs Kong, but now the time has come for the duo to work together. After all, previous promos suggest an ancient primate from the Hollow Earth is eager to reign over Earth, and it will fall on Godzilla and Kong to keep the Scar King at bay.

Want to know more about Godzilla x Kong? No sweat! You can read the movie's official synopsis below:

"This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence - and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."

Oshi no Ko Theme Song Ranks as Spotify's Top Song in Japan https://comicbook.com/anime/news/oshi-no-ko-anime-theme-song-spotify/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 15:48:00 +0000 Megan Peters ab4e536c-4550-4043-81aa-a6fcff4f9102

Oshi no Ko has made quite the name for itself. Since the anime went live, Oshi no Ko has become one of this year's must-watch series. The idol drama has amassed a massive fandom, and a number of its lovers were roped in by the theme song for Oshi no Ko. The track by Yoasobi was hard to overlook after the show went live, and now, it seems "Idol" has been gifted a prestigious award by Spotify.

After all, the new year is upon us, and that means round-ups for 2023 are underway. Spotify has been hard at work putting its data on show as millions of users were sent their Wrapped info this month. Now, nationwide data from Spotify is going live, and it turns out "Idol" was the most-streamed song on Spotify in Japan.

Yes, you heard that right. "Idol" really did that. The song overcame every other in Japan to come out on top, and we're sure the Oshi no Ko team is living for this accolade.

After all, "Idol" has become quite the hit with fans. Yoasobi released the hit track in tandem with Oshi no Ko, and the show's gorgeous opening gave the upbeat song the perfect visuals. It didn't take long for the anime's ear worm to go viral, and no "Idol" has appeared in media across the globe. However, there is no denying Oshi no Ko put the song on blast, so we can all thank the anime for its part.

Of course, Oshi no Ko is far from over. The anime's first season wrapped earlier this year, but Oshi no Ko season two is in the works. If you want to catch up on the show, Oshi no Ko can be streamed on HIDIVE. So for more information on the series, you can read the official synopsis of Oshi no Ko below:

"Gorou is an ob-gyn with a life far removed from the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry-the world of his favorite idol, rising star Ai Hoshino. But when the two are unexpectedly brought together, their fates become intertwined in ways that defy all reason. For the good doctor, it's time to stan(d) and deliver!"

How many times have you listened to "Idol" since Oshi no Ko went live? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Director Teases Extended, Dialogue-Free Monster Sequences https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-king-new-empire-big-monster-sequences-teased/ Sat, 02 Dec 2023 23:41:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt c3b8376d-33f3-4c26-a7c8-0ddeedbd5c66

Most major criticisms with Legendary's latest wave of Godzilla films have included shots at each film's character-involved plots. After all, few people go to Godzilla films to see the interactions between characters compared to the monsters that can be found punching each other in the face. According to Adam Wingard, movie-goers will have no shortage of dialogue-free monster sequences in the MonsterVerse's next entry. The Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire helmer says there are several sequences of CGI monster fights.

"The skills that it takes to create a giant monster movie are so specific that you have to learn them, and only at the end of production was I like, 'Oh wait, now I know,'" Wingard told IGN while at CCXP. "I had all these different ideas of what I would do next time and how I could improve upon it."

"So much of the film is entirely animated CG shots; so much of it is just pure imagination," the director added. "We have some sequences going up to about eight minutes long, where it's just the monsters doing their thing, and so the movie really allows the monsters to tell their own narrative in a visual, nonverbal way."

Now that Godzilla and Kong are effectively are on the same team, the duo will face new threats in the Hollow Earth.

"This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence - and our own," Legendary's The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."

That new threat, according to teasers out of CCXP, will be the Scar King and his ancient Titans. The Scar King will be new to live-action, but has previously be included in the MonsterVerse's books, where he served as ruler of Hollow Earth before being imprisoned by Godzilla.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is set to debut on April 12, 2024.

Nintendo Switch Exclusive Has Been Removed From eShop Forever https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/nintendo-switch-game-exclusive-taiko-no-tatsujin/ Sat, 02 Dec 2023 00:48:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 92c8bfc0-a9e8-4a92-9aed-c03a26f63aa1

A Nintendo Switch exclusive has been removed from the Nintendo eShop, as of yesterday, limiting the options of Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED users to buy the game. As you may know, delistings are becoming more and more common in an era where maintaining online games with dead player counts becomes too costly, where there is a need to maintain licenses, and where publishing rights are more complex than ever. Every year, many games are removed from digital storefronts, most of which aren't notable enough to notice, but sometimes the departures are more notable. The latest example of the latter is Nintendo Switch exclusive Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun from Bandai Namco. If you wanted to buy this 2018 game on the Nintendo eShop, well you can't, as you've officially run out of time as yesterday was the final day to do so.

The good news for those that already own the game is you will continue to be able to play it and purchase DLC for it because while the base game has been delisted DLC is not being delisted. Meanwhile, you can also redownload the game, and the DLC, as you please. What you can't do is buy the game, at least not digitally. That option stopped being available yesterday. What you can do is hunt down a physical copy of the game, however, this will quickly will become challenging due to the increase in demand and short supply of the game.

As for why the game is being delisted, we don't know. Bandai Namco didn't say at the time of the announcement earlier this year and that has not changed with the actual delisting. If this changes, we will update the story accordingly, but we do not expect this to happen.

"Thank you for your continuous support for Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun," reads a previous released statement from Bandai Namco about the delisting. "We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our customers who have purchased or played the game, and we kindly ask for your understanding in this matter. Please also consider continuing the drumming fun with Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival for Nintendo Switch."

Pokemon Horizons Releases English Dub Opening https://comicbook.com/anime/news/pokemon-horizons-english-dub-opening/ Fri, 01 Dec 2023 23:07:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 1d33a706-1f89-4f0a-9787-36edc68294ef

Pokemon Horizons has released dozens of episodes in Japan so far, but the new series focusing on Liko and Roy has yet to make its way to North America. Luckily, the latest season in Pokemon anime history is slated to arrive in February of next year on Netflix. With the streaming service recently releasing the episodes focusing on Ash Ketchum as he said goodbye to the anime adaptation, the English Dub opening for Pokemon Horizons has found its way online.

Pokemon Horizons didn't just pass the torch from Ash Ketchum and Pikachu to new trainers Liko and Roy, but it also waved goodbye to Team Rocket. In the final episode featuring Ash Ketchum as the star, Jesse, James, and Meowth were shown traveling behind him in a hot air balloon, seemingly handing off the main villain role to the group that is currently plaguing the Horizons' stars. The Explorers have been introduced as a collection of trainers who seem to be far more adept at their profession than Team Rocket, aiming to capture the mysterious artifacts that Liko and Roy have been harboring. Luckily, the two new trainers of the anime have some serious background in the form of the Rising Volt Tacklers.

Pokemon Horizons' English Dub Opening

Liko and Roy are quite different from Ash Ketchum in a number of ways, not angling to become the greatest Pokemon trainers of all time like their predecessor. Instead, the two have been mostly dodging the advances of the Explorers while attempting to discover the secrets that are associated with their mysterious artifacts. Luckily, the two have been able to hold onto their pendant and Pokeball, but it's been an uphill battle to do so.

While Ash Ketchum might be gone from the series for now, that doesn't necessarily mean that he'll never return to the anime series in the future. Pokemon executives in the past have stated that it might be possible for Ash to return at some point, but nothing has been confirmed. Now that Ash is the Pokemon World Champion, there is a wealth of potential stories to be explored should the anime want to.

Are you hyped for Pokemon Horizons to arrive in North America? Do you think we'll one day see Ash Ketchum return? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of Pokemon.

Rick And Morty Season 7 Episode 8 Preview Brings Back "Ice-T" https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-season-7-episode-8-cold-open-watch/ Fri, 01 Dec 2023 22:37:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 88d51a5a-ae0f-47dc-9b4f-71bec81ca42d

Rick And Morty's seventh season only has a few episodes in the tank before it comes to an end. With this latest season featuring the death of Rick Prime and more than a few surreal situations for the Smith Family to handle, the eighth episode has revealed its "cold open" which will feature a hilarious comeback. Not having appeared since Season 2, "Ice-T" is aiming to make a comeback in the episode, "Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie".

The last time that Adult Swim fans saw "Ice-T", and his alternate self known as "Water-T", he was a part of the episode titled "Get Schwifty". In attempting to create a musical act that would save the planet, Rick Sanchez found himself collaborating with Ice-T, only for the artist to reveal that he was an alien from a distant world. Hilariously revealing that he used to be a being known as "Water-T", cursed to be frozen in ice thanks to not caring for his people, Ice-T would go on to save the day and save the Earth. From the cold open seen below, it seems that the next episode of the seventh season is picking up right where season two left off.

Rick And Morty And Ice-T

While the cold opening for Rick And Morty's eighth episode of its seventh season doesn't feature Rick or Morty, the footage shows that "Water-T" is now on his way to Earth for help. Implementing quite a few puns that are number-related, the installment is looking to be as funny as it is surreal.

As Rick and Morty rounds out the final episodes of the season, you can catch up with Rick and Morty Season 7's episodes so far through Adult Swim's official website (with a cable subscription).

What has been your favorite episode of Rick And Morty's seventh season so far? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVCOmedy to talk all things comics, anime, and Adult Swim.

Godzilla Minus One Releases Final Trailer https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-minus-one-final-trailer-watch/ Fri, 01 Dec 2023 21:38:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 062a9f58-3cee-42ae-94c5-b6c25919da78

Godzilla Minus One might be in theaters, but that isn't stopping the latest film focusing on the lizard king from releasing one last trailer. With the new take on the king of the monsters being one of the most terrifying to date, the new footage shows the path of destruction that Godzilla is more than happy to make in Japan. Whether Godzilla Minus One is the greatest 'Zilla movie of all time is debatable, but it just might be its most vicious.

Recently, we here at ComicBook.com had the opportunity to talk with Godzilla Minus One director, Takashi Yamazaki, about his iteration of the giant beast, "I feel that my Godzilla for this Godzilla is very specific for the story because there's a tendency with Godzilla is that he's obviously a massive existence and there can be a tendency to split the story a bit versus this is going on with Godzilla, this is going on with the people or the government and things like that.

Godzilla Minus One Final Trailer

While this might be an entirely new take on Godzilla, featuring the lizard king emerging from the depths to plague Japan following the events of World War 2, there are still some tried and true aesthetics to the kaiju that remain. Godzilla still has his patented atomic breath and while there were some slight changes made to its design, it still looks close to many of the versions that preceded Minus One's take. A Godzilla Minus One sequel hasn't been confirmed, though it would be interesting to see where the king of the monsters would return timewise if a part two emerged.

What has been your favorite iteration of Godzilla to date? Do you think we'll receive a Godzilla Minus One sequel? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of kaiju.
