The Season 2 finale of Yellowstone aired Sunday night on CBS, but the broadcaster isn't done with the high Paramount Network series just yet. On Monday, it was announced that CBS will continue airing Yellowstone with Season 3 starting in January. According to The Wrap, Yellowstone Season 3 will premiere on CBS on Sunday, January 14th at 8 p.m. ET with three episodes. The third season will continue airing on Sundays in January with the Season 3 finale premiering on Monday, January 29th at 10 p.m. ET as part of a "two-night" finale event.

The third season of Yellowstone coming to CBS comes as the series has been a ratings hit for CBS. The Taylor Sheridan created series' CBS debut was a huge success for the network with 6.56 million viewers and while those numbers dipped a little -- presumably since viewers are able to stream additional current seasons and episodes of the series on Peacock -- it's still a ratings driver. The series is also bringing in viewers who had never before seen the hit series. Half of the massive audience that tuned in for Yellowstone's broadcast premiere were first-time viewers just getting acquainted with the Dutton family.

When Will Yellowstone Return With New Episodes?

While CBS is airing episodes of Yellowstone from the start, the series is currently in its fifth season, but it may be a while before fans are able to get back to new episodes of the series. Yellowstone went on a midseason break earlier this year and thus far, production on the remaining episodes of Season 5 has not even begun. Additionally, Yellowstone is set to end with Season 5 as Kevin Costner, who plays patriarch John Dutton III, is departing the series. A sequel series, 2024, is in the works. The series will star Academy Award winning actor Matthew McConaughey. Another spinoff, 1944, is also in the works.

"Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions - and, we're just getting started," said Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. "On the heels of 1883 and 1923's success, our new planned spinoffs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon - thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan."

C. Thomas Howell Does Real Full Frontal Nudity in Netflix's Obliterated https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/c-thomas-howell-full-frontal-nudity-netflix-obliterated/ Tue, 05 Dec 2023 04:51:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson efac1776-249b-42fa-b60a-b46117e11b17

Obliterated arrived on Netflix last week, bringing about the latest series from the creators of Cobra Kai. In between delivering some heartfelt emotion and epic action, the series did have some genuine surprises -- and now we know the details for how one of the most controversial came to be. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Obliterated's producers revealed that the full-frontal nudity from Hagerty (C. Thomas Howell) in the series' first episode is, in fact, real. As they explained, there were brief plans for Howell to wear prosthetics during the scene in question, before the actor personally decided to take a different approach.

"This was real," executive producer Jon Hurwitz explained in our interview, which you can check out above. "What you see on the show is real. But there's a funny story behind it. In that first episode, you get to see quite a bit of C Thomas Howell, and our production spent $10,000 on making a prosthetic for him. And the morning of he calls me up and he says, 'You know what, brother? If I'm gonna do this, I'm going for it. I just want to go all out.' And we're like, 'But you signed he nudity rider that says you're wearing this thing. He's like, 'Tell them I won't do it. Tell them I won't wear it.' And we're like, 'Great! This is even better.' So Sony and Netflix had to get their lawyers to move quickly, [and] quickly adjust his nudity rider. He signed it and then the rest is history."

What Is Obliterated About?

Obliterated is a high octane action-comedy that tells the story of an elite special forces team who thwarts a deadly threat to Las Vegas. After their celebratory party, filled with booze, drugs and sex, the team discovers that the bomb they deactivated was a fake. The now intoxicated team has to fight through their impairments, overcome their personal issues, find the real bomb, and save the world.

"The entire city of Las Vegas will be obliterated unless our team can find and deactivate the nuclear device," executive producer, director, and co-showrunner Hayden Schlossberg shared when the project was announced. "There is only a short window of time to find the bomb, and as the clock ticks our team must overcome deadly forces working against them... as well as overcome the massive amounts of alcohol and other substances that are in their system."

"Even if you're the so-called best of the best, you're gonna be way up against it if called back into action with a system full of liquor and drugs," Josh Heald added. "Our team deals with every conceivable self-imposed obstacle as a result of accidentally partying before the mission is over....It's way more difficult when contending with blurred vision, poor brain processing, decreased coordination, nausea, hunger, thirst, and bladder control."

Obliterated is now streaming exclusively on Netflix.

Apple TV+ Cancels Beloved Comedy https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/apple-tv-central-park-canceled-three-seasons/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 23:43:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt f1d66bf2-2132-4a7d-93e1-83a3a61483d9

One of Apple TV+'s most popular shows has reached the end of its road. Monday, the streamer officially canceled Central Park after airing three seasons on the platform. Josh Gad, co-creator and executive producer of the series, suggested a potential cancellation on social media over the weekend, which has now been confirmed by the Apple-owned service. The news was first reported by Variety.

The show's third season premiered earlier this fall and featured the return of Kirsten Bell, who had previously departed the series surrounding a casting controversy. Originally voicing a mixed-race character, Bell's return was available because of a newly-created character. It's unclear if the Gad and Loren Bouchard-created series will be shopped around.

When we spoke with Gad in 2021, the actor was still holding out hope with a Central Park crossover with Bob's Burgers, Bouchard's other wildly popular animated series.

"I'd love for a Bob's crossover, I keep begging Loren. It would be such a thrill," Gad confirmed with ComicBook.com. "I'd love to see the Central Park characters pop up in Rick and Morty. But, then again, I'd love to see anything pop up in Rick and Morty. But I'm also equally happy to continue to tell stories in our little park with these incredible characters who I couldn't love anymore."

Bob's Burgers has fared much better than Central Park, with the former now airing episodes in its 14th season. Bob's Burgers has also already been renewed by Fox for a 15th season as well.

Bouchard created Central Park alongside Nora Smith and Josh Gad, and it tells the story of a family that looks after one of the country's most famous parks. Gad stars in the series alongside Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Kathryn Hahn, Tituss Burgess, and Stanley Tucci. Guest stars in Season 3 include Sam Richardson, Ike Barinholtz, Ben Schwartz, Zoe Chao, Ron Funches, Jack McBrayer, Amber Ruffin, Yvette Nicole Brown, Craig Robinson, Tim Meadows, and David Alan Grier.

The first three seasons of the show are now streaming on Apple TV+.

Rick and Morty: Ice-T Finally Makes Official Guest Star Debut https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-who-does-ice-t-play-voice-magma-q/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 23:17:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 5a93c050-6717-47f9-8e59-043eaad9140e

Rick and Morty Season 7 finally snagged rap/actor icon Ice-T for a guest star spot on the show - a collaboration that's been a longtime coming (8+ years), since technically speaking "Ice-T" already made an appearance way back in Season 2!

If you don't remember the before times, Rick and Morty Season 2 Episode 5 "Get Schwifty" saw Rick and Morty called up to be Earth's defenders in a galactic musical competition/reality show, where the stakes for losing were planetary obliteration. The timing was ill-fated for Earth, as most of the music industry stars get killed in an earthquake that struck the Grammy Awards - leaving behind just Ice-T to serve as Rick's collaborator on a dope music track that will please the god-like Cromulons.

"Get Schwifty" didn't use the voice of the real Ice-T, for its caricature, instead letting Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon play the role. The animated series then doubled down on things by including a post-credits scene that set up a whole new mythos for "Ice," revealing him to be the member of an alien race from Alphabetrium, whose true form was "Water-T." last seen, "Water" was headed off to defend his planet of Alphabet-themed beings from the malevolent Numbericons.

Ice-T's Rick and Morty Role Revealed

In Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 8, we get "Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie", which takes the post-credits trailer from Season 2 and turns it into a full-fledged movie-style episode. The saga of Water-T and the Alphabetrium people starts right where we left off with the Numbericons attacking, and that's when the voice of the real Ice-T is revealed to be playing the part of the father of Rick and Morty's Ice-T, "Magma-Q."

(The Real) Ice-T gets a fitting arc in the episode: he's killed in the initial Numbericon invasion but returns in the climatic act of the story as a Force ghost to give Water-T the full scope of his power needed to become "Magma-T" and battle big bad villain Infinity. Ice-T didn't have to break from his cool persona, bringing as much smooth edge to Magma-Q as you'd expect from the Law & Order star. The real fun was in seeing

The Late Show Hiatus Extends Amid Stephen Colbert's Continued Recovery https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/late-show-hiatus-extended-stephen-colbert-medical-emergency/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 22:29:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt d99787ab-9b05-4978-bb76-fc3bddbf0175

The Late Show will be without new episodes for at least one more week. Monday, Stephen Colbert announced he's taking another week off as he continues recovering from an appendectomy late last month. Colbert made the announcement on his Threads account, saying he's taking it easy due to the advice of his medical team.

"I'm listening to my doctors and continuing to rest and heal," Colbert said. "Thank you for all your well wishes and I'll see you soon."

New episodes for the iconic late night show were temporarily paused after Thanksgiving because Colbert suffered from a ruptured appendix, a medical emergency in every sense of the word.

"Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week. I'm sure you're thinking, 'Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?' Actually, I'm recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix," Colbert posted on Threads last week. "I'm grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me. Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas."

The burst appendix is the second medical issue Colbert has suffered from this fall. In October, the late night host paused episodes after he tested positive for COVID-19. The host also cancelled episodes in 2022 because of COVID as well.

"Stephen is experiencing symptoms consistent with a recurrence of COVID," the show's May 2022 announcement read. "Out of an abundance of caution for his staff, guests, and audience, he will be isolating for a few additional days. The Late Show will not be taping new episodes until further notice."

Colbert has been open about his experience hosting The Late Show during the pandemic, as well as how his anxieties about the virus impacted his time as a performer.

"I'm glad to have relaxed into that vulnerable feeling because it makes you less nervous in general about being a public figure, let alone a public performer," Colbert explained in a 2021 interview with Variety. "It's like you're saying, 'Well, this is really what I'm like, and I hope that's OK with you.' And to find out that was OK was another level of becoming myself, of which this entire show has been a journey to."

Stay tuned to ComicBook.com for more news on when new episodes of The Late Show will return to air.

Fallout TV Show Creators View the Series as Fallout 5 https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/fallout-5-tv-show-series-bethesda/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 21:50:00 +0000 Logan Moore d84aefbb-2374-4b1e-bec2-af71ce321b6a

Those in charge of Prime Video's upcoming Fallout TV series have said that they're personally trying to view the show as Fallout 5. Rather than look to adapt any of the stories from one of the main Fallout games, the 2024 TV show is going to introduce a new cast of characters and a new locale that hasn't previously been seen in the franchise. To that end, the showrunners in charge of Fallout tried to approach the show as a wholly new installment in the way that Fallout 5 would be rather than tying it too closely to anything in particular from the video games.

During a new conversation at CCXP, Fallout's co-showrunner Graham Wagner opened up about the TV adaptation and what it has been like to develop. Although stressing that he didn't want to share too much about the show and its story, Wagner said that those helming the project intentionally tried to distance it from the timelines seen in the Fallout games. To help with this, Wagner said that they tried to look at the show as Fallout 5 rather than a typical video game adaptation.

"We didn't start from a place of characters from the games. We set things after," Wagner said. "We kind of told ourselves, 'This is Fallout 5, this is just another installation, and we're starting with fresh snow.' But as things go on, things go on. So yeah, again, I am really desperate not to spoil stuff, leave it at that I guess."

Even though Graham and those leading up the development of Fallout might be trying to see it as Fallout 5 for themselves, the real Fallout 5 is a game that Bethesda has said that they'll make one day. In fact, just last year, Bethesda director Todd Howard confirmed that Fallout 5 would be the studio's next project after it releases The Elder Scrolls 6. Given that the next Elder Scrolls game is still many years away, though, Fallout 5 is something that won't feasibly see the light of day until 2030 or beyond. As such, this Prime Video series is likely going to have to take the place of Fallout 5 for many fans in the interim, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

As of this moment, Fallout is only a few months out from its debut on Prime Video which is set to hit on April 12, 2024. Until that time, you can check out the first teaser trailer for the show at the top of the page.

Amazon's Spider-Man Noir Series Hires The Punisher Writer https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/spider-man-noir-steven-lightfoot-the-punisher-netflix-showrunner/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 21:20:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt e18dfdf9-66a5-4ad9-b01c-c45e544b65ec

Steven Lightfoot has found his second comic book series to showrun. Monday, it was revealed The Punisher alumnus is set to executive produce and co-showrun Prime Video's Spider-Man Noir series in active development. Lightfoot was the showrunner of Netflix's Jon Bernthal vehicle for both of its seasons, and is reentering the land of Marvel with a period piece featuring one of Peter Parker's most popular multiversal variants.

According to the initial reporting from Variety, Lightfoot will showrun the series alongside writer Oren Uziel. It's unclear when the series will begin production or set a release window at the Amazon-owned streamer.

Is Nic Cage in Prime's Spider-Man Noir series?

The character has received renewed attention thanks to his role in Sony Pictures Animation's wildly popular Into the Spider-Verse film series. In the animated version, the character is voiced by Nic Cage. It's not clear if this live-action series has anything to do with the animated version of the character.

"Well, I think it's a wonderful character," Cage previously shared with ComicBook.com. "It's a character that lends itself to channeling some of my favorite noir movie stars. It doesn't matter if new generations do not know who [Humphrey] Bogart is or [James] Cagney is. The point is that those vocalizations or Edward G. Robinson, those rhythms worked. They work on camera. They work in terms of the way they sound. Spider-Man, for me, is the coolest superhero. I think to have that combined with a noir, like 1930s golden age movie star attitude, makes it one of the most exciting of all the superhero characters."

When we spoke with Lightfoot about the second season of The Punisher, the writer revealed he was a massive fan of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

"Right from when I was a kid, I was always a Spider-Man guy," Lightfoot told us at the time. "And if the chance ever came to write anything Spider-Man related, my twelve year old self would never be happier. Though I have to say, having just seen Into the Spider-Verse, that's a big bar to jump because I thought that movie was good. I thought it was a different level."

Netflix's One Piece Star Mackenyu Recounts His Most Challenging Scene https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-netflix-zoro-mihawks/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 21:12:00 +0000 Megan Peters e525901a-3c41-4615-878b-a87db9b5ec4a

Earlier this year, the world was introduced to the power of Netflix's One Piece. Despite a host of worries from fans, the live-action adaptation managed to prove anime's curse on Hollywood wrong. The successful original has shattered records at Netflix, and much of its success is due to the show's top-notch cast. And in a recent interview, the actor behind Roronoa Zoro admitted his biggest acting challenge on set came along with Mihawk.

Appeared at German Film and Comic Con, Mackenyu opened up about his latest work with Netflix. It was there the actor recounted his most challenge work as Zoro, and Mackenyu said any scene he did with Mihawks made him extra self-aware.

"[The most challenging moment] was with Mihawk. It's a heavy scene for Zoro and it is a very iconic scene in One Piece. I did not want to mess it up," Mackenyu admitted. Carrying on, the actor also said he struggled to stay awake in certain scenes thanks to Zoro's love of napping.

"It was very hard to keep awake when I am lying on the bed unconscious. I was so sleepy. I think I did kind of fall asleep."

Of course, Mackenyua's work as Zoro managed to impress fans across the globe. Upon its launch in August, Netflix's One Piece beat out shows like Wednesday with its opening numbers. The show went on to spend well over a month in the site's top ten most-watched series, so it goes without saying One Piece went the distance. Now, One Piece season two has been ordered by Netflix, and we're sure Mackenyu will face some more intense scenes when the show returns.

If you have not check out Netflix's One Piece, the series is streaming right now. So for more info on Eiichiro Oda's hit tale, you can read its official synopsis here: "As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world..."

Verizon Announces Netflix and Max Streaming Bundle for $10 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/verizon-announces-netflix-and-max-streaming-bundle-for-10/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 20:11:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 9d5c0b88-d970-44b2-9e55-29fcd120292e

Verizon is offering a new streaming bundle, which will allow fans to subscribe to both Netflix's and Max's ad-supported tiers for a total of just $10 per month beginning later this week. Starting December 7 and for the first time, Netflix and Max will be offered together - exclusively for Verizon's myPlan customers. The myPlan program allows subscribers to choose their add-ons a la carte rather than requiring a more robust (but expensive) package. At $10 per month, the myPlan bundle represents over 40% savings for Verizon customers.

The Netflix & Max (with ads) bundle is among ten $10 monthly perks available to Verizon customers through myPlan, including Apple TV+, +play credits to save on more streaming and content, Walmart+, TravelPass and more. That means customers can get two content bundles with myPlan perks - the Disney Bundle and the Netflix & Max (with ads) bundle - which would add up to five streaming services for just $20 per month.

"Customers want unbeatable offers from top partners that deliver the best services and experiences they want, and on the nation's most reliable network, said Frank Boulben, Chief Revenue Officer, Verizon Consumer Group, in a press release. "With these only for Verizon deals and first-of-its-kind bundled content offers you can get through myPlan, there's never been a better time to be a Verizon customer."

Verizon is using its strategic relationships with the biggest players in the content industry to create some of these bundles that are totally unique to the telecom company. The idea, of course, is to attract consumers who want these features to Verizon. You can check out some other media deals from Verizon here.

Netflix's first-ever ad-supported tier, Netflix Basic With Ads, rolled out late last year. It also comes with a lower resolution for video, and some content are not available to watch at all on the Basic plan. Netflix has never had ads, and didn't intend to do so until fairly recently, some of the licensing deals they have negotiated for movies and TV shows specifically forbid them being shown with ads. Netflix intends to work on reducing the number of titles that will be unavailable on the Basic plan over time.

The advertising algorithm was developed by Netflix in cooperation with Microsoft. The ads themselves will run 15 or 30 seconds each, and are said to play both before and during movies and TV shows. Peters has said that new release movies will not have ads during the film, opting instead to keep only pre-roll ads.

Dragon Ball: Tap Into Your Inner Vegeta With These Luxe Heels https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-anime-cosplay-vegeta-heels/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 20:10:00 +0000 Megan Peters 45a4407d-7b0a-4de2-80d9-31a45abc3098

When you think about fashion in anime, some pretty big series come to mind. From Nana to Sailor Moon and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, fashion comes up in anime more often than you'd think. Still, there aren't many who would credit Dragon Ball as fashion forward. The iconic anime doesn't stand out with its clothing, but now, it seems Nordstrom has a viral buy on hand that turns Vegeta into runway material.

As you can see below, the piece is question comes courtesy of Jeffrey Campbell. The brand, which is known for churning out its name brand shoes, isn't afraid to step outside of the box. That is what pushed the designer to release its Motorsport Stiletto Boot, and Dragon Ball fans have noticed some... very obvious similarities with it.

dragon-ball-anime.png
(Photo: Jeffrey Campbell)

I mean, you just have to look at the shoe to see. This boot-heel combo is the perfect shoe for any Dragon Ball cosplayer who wants to give Vegeta a feminine touch. And if you can walk in these nearly five-inch heels, more power to you.

"Color-pop trim and quilted paneling go full throttle on this motorsport-inspired faux-leather boot sharpened by a metallic stiletto heel and pointy toe," Jeffrey Campbell describes the shoe.

Pricex at at $270 USD here at Nordstrom, this shoe is not cheap by any means, so you can consider it a huge cosplay investment. There aren't many sizes left in these heels either, so keep that in mind as you prep your looks for conventions next year. If this Dragon Ball shoe fits your idea, well - you might want to get them sooner rather than later! These heels have gone viral, and it won't be long before the anime fandom sells Nordstrom out.

My Hero Academia Announces 2024 Universal Studios Debut https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-universal-studios-park-ride/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 19:18:00 +0000 Megan Peters da4a38d0-e745-40f1-bbc9-7c4b9c45f34f

My Hero Academia has cemented its place as one of anime's biggest titles. From its television reign to its films and manga, there is nothing this superhero franchise cannot do. Creator Kohei Horikoshi has taken My Hero Academia places we never expected, and now the anime is ready to take over Universal Studios.

Yes, you read that right. My Hero Academia is going to join the roster at Universal Studios Japan. The theme park will create an attraction area for My Hero Academia next summer as part of its Cool Japan campaign. So if you want to step into Deku's world, you will get the chance soon!

As you can see above, a new promo was released for Cool Japan 2024 that puts Izuku front and center. We can see the green-haired hero in all his gear, and the power of One For All is surging around him. There is no doubt Deku is mid-battle here, so we hope My Hero Academia's ride will take fans along for the fight.

Of course, My Hero Academia is far from the first anime to join up with Universal Studios Japan. From Neon Genesis Evangelion to Attack on Titan, some of the biggest IPs in anime have been given a shot. Now, My Hero Academia is up to bat, and fans are eager to see what Universal Studios comes up with.

While we wait on the park's next update, you can catch up with My Hero Academia easier than ever before. The hit anime is streaming everywhere from Hulu to Crunchyroll. So for more info on the hit series, you can read the official synopsis of My Hero Academia below:

"Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life-a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That's right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered "quirk," Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that's not enough to stop him from enrolling in one of the world's most prestigious hero academies."

What do you think about this Universal Studios collaboration? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Star Wars Report Might Have Disappointing Disney+ Update for 2024 TV Series https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-disney-plus-tv-series-the-acolyte-skeleton-crew-streaming-2024/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 19:14:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh ada2961c-17b8-45de-8b8d-5557a37ddce1

This year's writers' and actors' strikes caused major delays with a number of productions, and now that those strikes have been resolved, productions have finally been able to move forward, which includes multiple Lucasfilm productions being able to be completed. Despite work continuing on these projects, a recent UK press release from Disney+ hints that fans might not be getting as much Star Wars content on the platform in 2024, as it merely claims that fans can expect Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and Star Wars: The Acolyte debuting on the streamer. With new seasons of Star Wars: Andor, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi all expected in 2024, it's unclear if those projects have been delayed until 2025 or if this press release was merely specifying all-new programs coming to Disney+.

The release explains, "Star Wars: The Acolyte will premiere on Disney+ in 2024. The series is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew tells the story of four kids who find themselves lost in the vastness of the galaxy trying to find their way home. This series will arrive on the platform in 2024."

What's worth noting, however, is that, when it comes to Marvel programs, this release only notes that Echo, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and X-Men '97 are the projects coming to the streamer in 2024, which are also all-new series. When spotlighting Hulu originals, though, the release confirms that new seasons of The Bear and Welcome to Wrexham will be debuting next year.

Given this year's strikes, it seems as though the entire slate of upcoming releases is unconfirmed, as the holiday season likely also will be causing some complications for the future of many franchises. With a number of studios still adjusting their release schedules for 2024, it's likely that we won't get concrete details on movie and TV releases until we're in the new year, and even then, the studios could still make some adjustments. Still, this release reminds us we have two new live-action series to look forward to in the new year.

Stay tuned for updates on Star Wars TV series.

Percy Jackson: New Character Posters Showcase Key Backstory Detail https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/percy-jackson-character-posters-key-camp-half-blood-detail/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 18:39:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 6a7746b1-7fd0-4b38-b759-5242154b75a4

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is just about to kick off, but the world of gods and monsters is very much a lived-in universe. The Disney+ adaptation of Rick Riordan's best-selling books is set to chronicle The Lightning Thief in its first eight episodes. That narrative essentially serves as Percy's origin story, but the same cannot be said for some of his companions. Most of Camp Half-Blood have been living the demigod life for years, and some have even had first-hand experiences with the brightest and darkest elements of Greek mythology. While it remains to be seen as to how much of those backstories will be explored, a new detail indicates that the seeds for them have been planted.

A bead for every summer.

The latest Percy Jackson and the Olympians character posters showcase the duality of the show's core trio.

Walker Scobell's Percy Jackson is seen with his outside world look on the left and his Camp Half-Blood's capture the flag battle helmet on the right. Percy is also wearing an empty necklace, a result of the fact that this is his first summer at camp.

Leah Jeffries's Annabeth Chase also follows Percy's pattern of outside world on the left, Camp Half-Blood's capture the flag armor on the right. Like Percy, Annabeth is also wearing a necklace, but hers is populated with beads and a ring. The five beads represent her five summers at Camp Half-Blood while the ring belongs to her mortal father.

Aryan Simhadri's Grover Underwood also gets the half and half treatment. Grover's Mist-veiled mortal side is shown on the left while his true satyr self, complete with horns and pointed ears, is seen on the right.

What Do The Camp Half-Blood Necklace Beads Mean?

Those at Camp Half-Blood all receive a bead for every summer that they spend at the demigod haven.

Each bead is typically custom-made for what transpired at that given summer. In the books, Percy's necklace eventually includes the Golden Fleece for his quest through The Sea of Monsters and a maze for The Battle of the Labyrinth.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians premieres on Disney+ on December 20th.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 is based off of the first novel in Rick Riordan's critically-acclaimed book series, The Lightning Thief. Starring Walker Scobell (The Adam Project) as the titular demigod, this eight-episode first season embarks Percy on a quest to return Zeus's stolen master bolt, as he is framed as the prime suspect. If he is not successful by the Summer Solstice deadline, the world bears the consequences of Mount Olympus in-fighting. The series also stars Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood), Leah Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), Glynn Turman (Chiron), Jason Mantzoukas (Dionysus), Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse La Rue), Charlie Bushnell (Luke), Adam "Edge" Copeland (Ares), Jay Duplass (Hades), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hermes), Timothy Omundson (Hephaestus), Lance Reddick (Zeus), and Toby Stephens (Poseidon).

New Girl Star Weighs in on Potentially Reviving Sitcom https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/new-girl-revival-reboot-season-8-lamorne-morris/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 18:20:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 7e1101eb-876b-4df9-bd27-1b8a42e9eed6

The age of streaming means sitcoms can earn newfound success well after their initial broadcasts, and while New Girl earned critical acclaim and a passionate following in its initial run, its fan base only grew in popularity when it was streaming on Netflix and Hulu. The surge of support for the sitcom has seen some audiences hoping to get more episodes of the comedy, with star Lamorne Morris confirming that he'd be open to reuniting with the rest of the cast to deliver a revival. The success earned by the ensemble cast might make it a challenge to bring the stars together, though he didn't hesitate to share his enthusiasm for the project.

When speaking to Screen Rant about the possibility of a New Girl revival and his interest, Morris confirmed, "Absolutely. It's one of those shows that, because of streaming, I will say, it took on new legs and a different fan base, and it will continue to resonate with fans. People will always be able to identify with the dynamic of this group of friends, and it's just funny."

New Girl and star Zoey Deschanel secured a number of awards and nominations throughout its run, and while there was an extended delay between Seasons 6 and 7, the final season of the series earned a time jump and, to the disappointment of fans, only eight episodes as compared to the 20+ episodes from each previous season.

"For me, I want to keep servicing the fans. Whenever the fans want something that, if I'm available for, I'd love to. If we can do another season, that would be awesome. Jake Johnson doesn't charge that much, so he won't be too expensive," the actor joked. "Everybody else is fair. He might be the one, then, you got to grease the old palms a little bit. But the rest of us, we're fair to our fans and to our employers."

With the final season having aired in 2018, some might think it's too soon for a revival, with series creator Elizabeth Meriwether sharing in 2021 that it felt too soon to develop a reboot.

"I think we need a little more water under the bridge is what I'll say, but yeah," Meriwether shared during a reunion panel for Variety. "When it feels right, when the universe says it's time, I will be there with my little tippy-tap computer writing stuff."

Stay tuned for updates on the possible future of New Girl.

Cruel Intentions Cast Announced as Reboot is Ordered to Series https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/cruel-intentions-cast-announced-as-reboot-series-is-ordered-to-series/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 18:13:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 3ea443ef-9d3c-4625-88a4-8d9aaabf368c

Prime Video today announced that they have ordered a Cruel Intentions TV adaptation straight to series. The show, inspired by the iconic '90s thriller of the same name, centers on a pair of step-siblings who draw others into a deadly game that toys with emotions and turns sex into currency. The highly anticipated series is produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, and Original Film. The adaptation -- the latest in a long line of adaptations of the novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses -- takes place at an elite Washington, D.C., college, where two ruthless step-siblings will do anything to stay on top of the cutthroat social hierarchy. After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Panhellenic system at their school, they'll do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputation, even if that means seducing the daughter of the vice president of the United States.

The cast will include Sarah Catherine Hook (First Kill), Zac Burgess (Totally Completely Fine), Savannah Lee Smith (Gossip Girl), Sara Silva (American Horror Stories), Khobe Clarke (Firefly Lane, Yellowjackets), John Harlan Kim (The Last Thing He Told Me, 9-1-1), Brooke Lena Johnson (You), and Sean Patrick Thomas (Till). Claire Forlani, Nikki Crawford, Isabella Tagliati, Zeke Goodman and Jon Tenney are recurring. Cruel Intentions will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

"From the '90s cult-classic film to the 18th-century novel from which it was adapted, Cruel Intentions has captivated audiences with a story that transcends time," said Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD originals, unscripted, and targeted programming, Amazon MGM Studios. "We are beyond thrilled to share the next chapter of Cruel Intentions' intriguing interplay of deception, wit, and reckoning with Prime customers and couldn't be more appreciative of the commitment, dedication, and talent from this entire team - our incredible cast, endlessly clever writers, led by Phoebe and Sara, our fantastic partners at Sony and Original Film, and the executives that led the way at Amazon MGM Studios."

"We are so excited to get to work together to continue the legacy of Cruel Intentions, a film that remains beloved by so many -- including us!" executive producers Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher said in a statement. "We promise to make this next iteration as fun, irreverent, and boundary-pushing as the original, and are grateful to our partners at Original Film, Sony, and Amazon MGM Studios for trusting us to keep it Cruel."

"Cruel Intentions defined an era and is still a centerpiece in popular culture. We are excited to have Phoebe and Sara bring this new adaptation to life, as this has been a passion project of ours since I got to Sony," added Lauren Stein, Head of Creative, Sony Pictures Television. "We are grateful for our partners at Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios and Original Film, who brought the movie to life over 20 years ago."

Goodman (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Preacher) and Fisher (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Orange Crush) helm as the series writers and executive producers. Other executive producers will include Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty (Original Film) and Roger Kumble. The original movie was produced by Moritz and was written and directed by Kumble.

Spy x Family Pits Yor Against Chun-Li in Special Street Fighter Anime https://comicbook.com/anime/news/spy-x-family-street-fighter-anime/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 16:39:00 +0000 Megan Peters c45d9301-4800-4f12-86e2-2efd642f419c

These days, Spy x Family is everywhere you look. From television to theaters, the hit anime is thriving. Of course, the series' success made it an easy pick for Street Fighter to collab with. And now, an anime special has gone live that pits Yor Forger against Chun-Li of all people.

As you can see below, the epic throw down was inked by WIT Studio to hype the collaboration. Street Fighter puts Chun-Li on the screen in her usual blue outfit while Yor suits up in her assassin gear. Fighting against a Street Fighter backdrop, the two heroines are incredibly powerful. They match each other blow for blow, and things only get more intense from there.

After all, you know Chun-Li loves to throw kicks, and Yor feels the same. At the end of the promo, the two fighters are shown locking legs in a cross during battle. The stalemate puts a smile on Yor's lips, and even Chun-Li looks pleased about the whole thing. So of course, fans want nothing more than to see more of this fight.

For now, Yor vs Chun-Li is the only fight we've been given as part of this collaboration. We can only hope Loid and Yuri take part in the event somehow. While Street Fighter prepares to drop its next game, Spy x Family has its own big release on the horizon. This month will mark the launch of Spy x Family Code: White, after all. The movie will be the first for Spy x Family, and its original story promises to take the Forger Family on an overseas trip.

If you love this Spy x Family collaboration, you can always revisit Yor's previous fights from the anime. The hit series is streaming everywhere from Crunchyroll to Hulu. So for more information on Spy x Family, you can read its official synopsis below:

"World peace is at stake and secret agent Twilight must undergo his most difficult mission yet-pretend to be a family man. Posing as a loving husband and father, he'll infiltrate an elite school to get close to a high-profile politician. He has the perfect cover, except his wife's a deadly assassin and neither knows each other's identity. But someone does, his adopted daughter who's a telepath!"

Will Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Feature the Son of Kong? https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-x-kong-the-new-empire-kid-kong/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 16:15:00 +0000 Megan Peters a10edf5e-1453-4591-beb9-136eeebc9ce3

It took some time, but at last, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has come through for fans. Over the weekend, the film hit up CCXP in Brazil, and the big MonsterVerse movie showed out. Warner Bros. Discovery used the event to backdrop its first trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and the clip has everyone wondering whether our favorite ape has had a kid.

The whole thing came to light when Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire put out a trailer featuring a very different Kong. The older primate seems to be entrenched in the Hollow Earth, but it turns out he isn't the only ape around. The trailer shows Kong meeting a young reddish-brown ape with green eyes, and it seems the pair are on friendly enough terms.

(Photo: Warner Bros. Discovery)

Of course, the sudden appearance of a young ape in the MonsterVerse has sent fans into a tizzy. It did not take long for theories to crop up about the animal's origins. Many were quick to say this young ape is the son of Kong or perhaps a younger relative. But if you watch the whole trailer for Godzilla x Kong, well - you will find that is not the case.

While Kong and this young ape are friendly, it is clear the two aren't related. The pair don't share many features if any; Kong is very stocky and has the features of a gorilla. As for this kid, they are clearly based off an orangutang. At the end of the trailer, we meet a foe called the Scar King that resembles this kid. It seems the boy is somehow related to the film's major villain, but that won't stop the young ape from following King Kong.

Hopefully, we will learn more about Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in the coming months. The movie is slated to drop in April 2024. So if you want to know more about the movie, you can read the official synopsis for Godzilla x Kong below:

"This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence - and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."

True Detective: Night Country Trailer Released by HBO https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/true-detective-night-country-trailer-hbo/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 16:14:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 1862d3ac-bb21-4936-baab-4803e041a155

HBO has released the official trailer for True Detective: Night Country, the fourth season in the anthology crime series. Created by Nic Pizzolatto, True Detective became an instant hit on HBO, with the first season starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Subsequent seasons would add to True Detective's star power with the likes of Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Mahershala Ali. Each season focuses on a crime that a detective, or detectives, must come together to solve, with the setting and subtitle of the show also changing. Jodie Foster and Kali Reis are the co-leads of True Detective: Night Country, and they teased the trailer and poster's release date in a social media post.

In a post shared on the True Detective and HBO Instagram accounts, Jodie Foster, Kali Reis, and True Detective: Night Country writer/director Issa L?pez revealed the debut of today's new trailer and poster. Both actors couldn't wait to share the trailer and poster with fans, as the True Detective theme music played in the background. The trailer offers an expanded look at the drama that will unfold in Alaska, as our two detectives have to work together to help solve this intriguing case.

What is True Detective: Night Country about?

The description of True Detective: Night Country reads, "When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice."

True Detective showrunner teases connections to past seasons

"There are Easter eggs throughout that you will find and there's a big, big thing in Episode 6 that you will discover in time," L?pez shared at an HBO press event. "It is its own story, but it's still connected. The spiral is there, the way that there are those dark and ancient gods (perhaps yes, perhaps not) working behind the scenes. It is the same universe."

The first season focused on two detectives trying to uncover the origins of cult-like murders, while Season 2 focused more on corruption and coverups in local government. Season 3 echoed the events of Season 1, in that the storyline spanned decades and focused on the bizarre disappearance of two children in the Ozarks. While the new season will feature connections to other seasons, L?pez confirmed we shouldn't expect the new storyline to feature a time-spanning story seen in previous stories.

"HBO, you guys are incredible in the way that you trust a crazy Mexican," L?pez joked. "They were like, 'You can do it. Whatever you want.' Which is terrifying, it's the worst thing."

True Detective: Night Country debuts January 14, 2024 on HBO.

Doctor Who: How To Watch 60th Anniversary Special 3: "The Giggle" https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/watch-doctor-who-special-3-2023-the-giggle/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 15:53:00 +0000 Jamie Lovett 6ae6eeac-4592-4015-8e62-810700fd06fb

Doctor Who brings its celebration of its 60th anniversary to an end this week with Special Three: "The Giggle." Doctor Who returned in November with its first 60th-anniversary special, "The Star Beast," reuniting the Doctor with companion Donna Noble. Their story continued in the delightfully strange Special Two: "Wild Blue Yonder," which sent the Doctor and Donna to the edge of the universe and began wrestling with the aftermath of the Flux. As with the first two specials, the final Doctor Who special, "The Giggle," airs on the BBC in the United Kingdom and streams internationally on Disney+ as part of Disney's new deal with the BBC, which is hoping to turn Doctor Who into a bigger franchise. The extra Disney funding can be seen in Doctor Who's new opening credits sequence and the expansiveness of the show's new TARDIS set.

Picking up where "Wild Blue Yonder" left off, with one last meeting between the Doctor and Wilfred Mott, "The Giggle" was written by showrunner Russell T Davies, and directed by Chanya Button. The special's synopsis says, "The giggle of a mysterious puppet is driving the human race insane. When the Doctor discovers the return of the terrifying Toymaker, he faces a fight he can never win." As "The Giggle" is David Tennant's last special as the Fourteenth Doctor, it should be no surprise that the teaser trailer hints at his regeneration into the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa.

Special Three: The Giggle
(Photo: Alistair Heap)

Who is Neil Patrick Harris playing in Doctor Who Special 3?

"The Giggle" guest stars Neil Patrick Harris as the classic Doctor Who villain called the Toymaker. Michael Gough originated the Toymaker character in the classic Doctor Who Series 3 serial The Celestial Toymaker, where the villain faced the First Doctor, played by William Hartnell. The Toymaker is a mischievous villain who enjoys trapping others and forcing them into playing childish games with their freedom at stake. The Toymaker is also a sore loser who rigs the games in his favor.

Speaking to Total Film, Davies explained why he cast Neil Patrick Harris as the Toymaker. "You need an extraordinary actor to match David at the height of his power," Davies said. "Bear in mind that this is David's TARDIS, his Doctor, his name in the titles. It's not easy for guest stars to come into that. You need that size, you need that experience, you need that skill to match him, otherwise, you're in danger that the Doctor will tapdance all around you. That's what Neil brings... a vast performance that is properly terrifying."

How to watch or stream Doctor Who's 60th anniversary specials

Doctor Who's third and final 60th-anniversary special, "The Giggle," airs December 9th at 6:30 p.m. on the BBC in the United Kingdom. The episode is being streamed simultaneously on Disney+ in international markets. In the United States, "Wild Blue Yonder" will stream on Disney+ at 1:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT on the same day.

The first Doctor Who 60th-anniversary special, "The Star Beast," aired on November 25th, two days after Doctor Who's actual 60th anniversary. The story was based on a comic published by Marvel and drawn by the co-creator of Watchmen. The third and final Doctor Who 60th-anniversary special, "The Giggle." will air on December 9th. That Doctor Who special will guest-star Neil Patrick Harris as a classic Doctor Who villain, The Toymaker.

How to catch up with Doctor Who?

Hearing that Doctor Who has been going for 60 years might intimidate newcomers, but don't fret. Doctor Who regularly refreshes itself with a new lead playing the Doctor or a new showrunner taking over, and each of these moments serves as a good jumping-on point for the series. Much like getting into a long-running comic book series, it's best to dive in at one of those milestones and pick up on the bits of history that are still relevant via context. This Disney+ launch may be the ultimate example, as Disney+ and Davies are both looking to give Doctor Who a fresh start in this new era, internally referring to Ncuti Gatwa's upcoming first season as the Fifteenth Doctor as "Season 1." That means only drawing on past continuity when there's a good reason. However, longtime fans shouldn't feel abandoned. Davies is a Doctor Who superfan from long before he got a job running the show. He's already bringing back The Toymaker, who hasn't been seen on television since 1966. He teased the return, or at least a reference to, another classic Doctor Who villain, Mavic Chen.

"I know people are, naturally, worried about American producers having notes on things," Davies told Doctor Who Magazine earlier this year. "Well, don't be. They're giving excellent notes. And I'm here to tell you, you haven't watched a drama on British television in 20 years that hasn't had American notes on it. Everything is a co-production - it's really, completely normal. If you want any more reassurance, let me just tell you that we're about to transmit the words 'Mavic Chen' on television for the first time since 1966. It is absolutely the same show."

If you are new and do want to check out some past Doctor Who episodes (which you should do simply because the show is excellent), there are ways to do that. Fans can find nearly all episodes of Doctor Who, new and old, via iPlayer's new Whoniverse collection. For those in the United States, it will require access to other streaming services besides DIsney+.

To start with the modern Doctor Who, or "NuWho" as fans sometimes call it, you'll need a subscription to Max. The service formerly known as HBO Max has every episode of Doctor Who since its return in 2006, starring the Doctor as played by Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker. If you want help figuring out which episodes are worth watching, use ComicBook.com's Doctor Who streaming binge guide.

For classic Doctor Who, viewers need to turn to either Tubi, which has episodes of Doctor Who from its original airing in 1963 through its cancellation in 1989 for free with ads, or BritBox, which has the same library but offers an ad-free viewing experience for the price of a subscription. I'd recommend starting with the episodes starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. Baker is the longest-running television Doctor, meaning there are plenty of episodes to watch with him and get comfortable in Doctor Who's universe before going through a regeneration into a new Doctor. Baker is also the Doctor who brought Doctor Who to the United States in many regions when PBS aired his episodes of Doctor Who.

Conversely, while there are worthwhile stories starring the First (William Hartnell), Second (Patrick Troughton), and Third (John Pertwee) Doctors, that era of Doctor Who is a bit stodgier, and many installments are missing because of the BBC's old policy of purging episodes after they aired. Both aspects can make the earliest era of Doctor Who a challenge to get into and best left until a viewer has gained an appreciation for the show and why they should bother with its oldest entries.

Unfortunately, some episodes of Doctor Who are entirely missing from streaming services in the United States. For example, the American-made-for-TV movie that is the only televised appearance of the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) is, somewhat ironically, unavailable in the United States. More relevant to the 60th-anniversary specials is "The Celestial Toymaker," the original serial featuring The Toymaker (Michael Gough originally, Neil Patrick Harris in "The Giggle") is also not available. That's because only the final installment of the serial survived the BBC's purges, and fragments of "lost serials" are only available to stream in the United Kingdom.

However, those remaining fragments and episodes not streaming in the United States are available in other forms. "The Celestial Toymaker" audio track was released as an audiobook. Also, the BBC has released all episodes of Doctor Who, new and old, on DVD, including collections of lost stories. Libraries can be great resources for finding these. My local library has a bookshelf of Doctor Who DVDs covering the show's 60-year history. Not everyone will be that lucky, but it's worth a look.

What's Next for Doctor Who?

After this final Doctor Who 60th-anniversary special, Ncuti Gatwa will star as the Fifteenth Doctor in the Doctor Who 2023 Christmas Special, "The Church on Ruby Road," which airs and streams on Christmas Day. The episode will introduce Gatwa's co-star, Millie Gibson, as the Doctor's new companion, Ruby Sunday, as seen in the first look photos.

Gatwa and Gibson will star in the next season of Doctor Who, which has already wrapped filming. The new Doctor Who season will air on the BBC and stream on Disney+ in 2024. The season will have a shorter episode count than the seasons that preceded it, but Davies has said that's to help ensure there are no years without new Doctor Who, as there have been recently. Doctor Who is already filming Gatwa's second season as the Doctor.

Netflix Renews Fan-Favorite Sitcom For Season 4 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/netflix-renews-upshaws-sitcom-season-4/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 11:55:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 8f48d53a-41a9-4dec-9eb3-580f2cd506e9

Before the third season has wrapped up (or its second half has even premiered yet), Netflix has given The Upshaws a season four renewal. The comedy, from showrunners Wanda Sykes and Regina Hicks, has had its second and third seasons broken up into halves, allowing for Netflix to get a bump from each new "premiere" without committing to too many episodes. The fourth season will reportedly have ten total episodes, according to Deadline, who first reported the renewal. It's being called "Part six" by Netflix, but is also releasing all ten episodes at once. It's not immediately clear why they plan to change.

The Upshaws doesn't have the same pop cultural cache that some of Netflix's bigger hits have. It's less of an internet phenomenon than The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which was cancelled after a pair of two-part seasons. Still, a traditional sitcom is less expensive, and arguably more rewatchable, than most of the expensive programming that attracts buzz on social media.

"Part five" of The Upshaws -- the second half of season three -- is set to debut on Netflix in spring 2024. It's likely the fourth season will drop sometime between summer 2024 and spring 2025. No release date is officially set yet.

Here's the official synopsis for the series:

Bennie Upshaw (Mike Epps), the head of a Black working class family in Indianapolis, is a charming, well-intentioned mechanic and lifelong mess just trying his best to step up and care for his family - wife Regina (Kim Fields), their two young daughters (Khali Spraggins, Journey Christine) and firstborn son (Jermelle Simon), the teenage son (Diamond Lyons) he fathered with another woman (Gabrielle Dennis) -- and tolerate his sardonic sister-in-law (Wanda Sykes), all without a blueprint for success. But the Upshaws are determined to make it work, and make it to the next level, together. In this upcoming part, the Upshaws continue to ride life's ups and downs, including new jobs, bigger dreams, health struggles and some major life surprises but still hanging on with the love that comes with family.

The Upshaws is executive produced by Epps, Sykes, Hicks, Page Hurwitz, Wanda Sykes, Niles Kirchner, Mark Alton Brown, and producting partners Annie Levine and Jon Emerson.

Netflix's One Piece Star Teases Some Big Season 2 Action https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-season-2-netflix-zoro-action-tease-mackenyu/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 06:20:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 948160b3-615a-45a5-8368-2e862d0b7dbb

One Piece took over the world when it debuted its new live-action series adaptation with Netflix earlier this Summer, and one of the big stars behind the series is teasing some big action for Roronoa Zoro in Season 2! One Piece was such a massive success for Netflix that it was soon announced that a Season 2 was in the works. Following the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production on One Piece Season 2 is now in full swing as the team behind the series get ready for what's coming down the pipeline for the series next.

Considering some of the arcs and characters from Eiichiro Oda's original One Piece manga that could potentially be adapted in the next wave of episodes next, the star behind the live-action take on Roronoa Zoro, Mackenyu, teased that there's some big action on the way. While playing coy about exactly what we'll be seeing in the coming season, Mackenyu teased during Comic Con Arabia 2023 that fans should, "Expect a lot more in Season 2, including better action fight scenes from Zoro."

How to Be Ready for One Piece Season 2

It's yet to be announced what stories, characters, or fights we'll be seeing in the new episodes, but One Piece Season 2 is now in the works. Netflix has yet to reveal a release date or window for One Piece Season 2 as of the time of this writing, but series creator Eiichiro Oda teased that Chopper would be joining the series for the next wave of episodes. You can find the first season's eight episodes now streaming with Netflix if you wanted to catch up before the second season premieres.

Netflix teases One Piece's first season as such, "Based on Japan's highest-selling manga series in history by Eiichiro Oda, ONE PIECE is a legendary high-seas adventure unlike any other. Monkey D. Luffy is a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom since he can remember. Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, ONE PIECE, to become King of the Pirates! But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy will need to assemble the crew he's always wanted before finding a ship to sail, searching every inch of the vast blue seas, outpacing the Marines, and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn."

Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 9 Promo Released: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-season-7-episode-9-watch-adult-swim/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 05:30:00 +0000 Nick Valdez b37f7fea-67fd-436e-b478-43896a5f6a77

Rick and Morty Season 7 is now at the tail end of its run with Adult Swim this Fall as it enters its final two episodes, and fans have gotten the first look at the penultimate episode with the promo for Episode 9! Rick and Morty Season 7 has been a wild season for many reasons, and while there have been mostly episodes that were self-contained in their own ways, there have also been some massive payoffs for stories that have been in the works for quite a long time. This has had fans wondering about what could be coming in the final episodes.

Rick and Morty has made a habit of subverting expectations with the final episodes of each of its seasons. It could either end up being a one-off adventure that ends the season on a fun note, or episodes that change the series forever. With Rick and Morty Season 7 already doing plenty of this with the episodes seen thus far, that's bringing up so many questions for what's next. Check out the promo for Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 9 below (as spotted by @swimpedia on X):

How to Watch Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 9

Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 9 is titled "Mort: Ragnarick" and will be premiering on Adult Swim on Sunday, December 10th at 11:00PM EST. The episode is teased as such, "Heaven is for real, Broh. I saw it, Broh, I swear." Thankfully there is no planned hiatus or break before the final two episodes release either so now is the perfect time to catch up with everything that's happened in the season so far before it all comes to an end in just a couple of weeks.

If you wanted to do so, you can catch up with Rick and Morty Season 7's episodes so far through Adult Swim's official website (with a cable subscription). Adult Swim teases the new episodes as such, "Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever! It's season seven, and the possibilities are endless: what's up with Jerry? EVIL Summer?! And will they ever go back to the high school?! Maybe not! But let's find out! There's probably less piss than last season. 'Rick and Morty,' 100 years! Or at least until season 10!"

Rick and Morty Just Had an Entire Episode Without Rick https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-episode-without-rick/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 05:14:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 120b6dca-6dca-4b0a-b579-5949e082f01d

Rick and Morty Season 7 has bucked a major trend with the series as it featured its very first episode without a single appearance from Rick! Rick and Morty has been going through a lot of changes this season especially as each episode have shown that the series is finding new directions to evolve in to stay fresh despite how many seasons there are. This includes several one-off adventures focusing on the many side characters, or fleshing out more of the canon that fans had wanted to see. But the newest episode actually does both despite seeming like yet another wacky episodic story.

Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 8, "Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie" not only is a self-contained adventure paying off a joke cliffhanger from way back in the second season, but also fleshes out more of the backstories behind Mr. Goldenfold and Ice-T. But with the new adventure that sees Morty tagging along with the duo as Water-T faced off against the Numbericons, this was the first episode of the season (and of the series, really) without a single appearance from Rick.

Why Rick Was Absent From Rick and Morty

While there have been plenty of Rick and Morty episodes without appearances from Morty, it has not really been the same situation for Rick. Rick Sanchez has been such a pivotal part of the series' world, that it previously seemed impossible to not feature him at all. But this has changed with the newest episode that sees Morty being the only member of the main cast represented with the rest of the episode being dedicated to Mr. Goldenfold and the fight between Alphabetrium and the Numbericons.

After defeating his nemesis earlier in the season, Rick's role has notably been downplayed as Morty or Summer played the proactive part in bringing him into their respective stories. But without him at all, it's certainly an interesting experiment to see if Rick and Morty's extended cast is full of enough personality to hold an episode of their own. This could be a trend we see play out in future seasons of the series as it gets closer to its planned 100 episodes.

Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 8 Recap With Spoilers https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-season-7-episode-8-recap-spoilers/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 04:31:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 0fec6a17-fa1a-4854-bd13-d746b6a1987c

Rick and Morty Season 7 has reached its final few episodes for the year, and Rick and Morty has taken a major swerve with the latest episode focusing on the return of Water-T! Rick and Morty has a history of turning gags into jokes that fans see play out years later, and that's the case for the newest episode of the series as it finally picks up on a cliffhanger seen many seasons ago. Once thought to be just a post-credits joke that revealed Ice-T actually belonged to a species of sentient letters, Rick and Morty is fleshing out this lore even further.

When we had last seen Ice-T during the Season 2 episode, "Get Schwifty," he was revealed to not only be a sentient block of ice, but in reality he was revealed to be "Water-T." This post-credits joke was then left on a cliffhanger and previously thought to be left alone, but several seasons later Rick and Morty has returned to Water T's fight against the Numbericons as he reaches out to Mr. Goldenfold for help to figure out the math needed to defeat the numerical enemy. Here's everything that happened in Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 8, "Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie."

What Happens in Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 8?

  • A recap revisits Ice-T shortly after he heads back to his home planet of Alphabetrium as seen at the end of the "Get Schwifty" episode, but after his exile ends and he becomes "Water-T," his father is killed by the invading Numbericons. But thankfully we finally get to see what happens next as Water-T singlehandedly takes down plenty of the invading forces before putting up a numerical bracket force field to keep them out. It's then revealed that his dying father actually gave him something called "The Eye of Harmony" but he needs someone good at math to translate it. Water-T then teases he knows someone on Earth who can do it.
  • Following the opening credits, Ice-T arrives at Morty's school and it's revealed that he and Mr. Goldenfold have a past beef as Ice-T (who reveals he's now Water-T) owes him a ton of homework. When Morty asks about their pasts, Goldenfold revealed that he tried to teach Water-T math but he refused to learn as a kid. But now that his home's in danger, he wants Goldenfold's help to save it. Water-T then takes Goldenfold on his ship, and Goldenfold drags Morty along for the ride (Morty was in detention for not doing his math homework).
  • Goldenfold realizes the Eye of Harmony has the Pythagorean Theorem on it but needs to solve for it. When Morty then asks even further about why things fell apart between Goldenfold and Water-T, Goldenfold then reveals another look into their past that they became friends at one point as T became more interested in math (because it helped him with his rap). Goldenfold then figures out that the formula leads to a planet named E-10, and Water-T then gives the coordinates to Alphabetrium (only to be betrayed by Oxygen-S, whole reveals himself to be a "secret villain").
  • Heading to E-10, Water-T and the others meet a group of primitive symbols who worship the Eye of Harmony and then hold an Ewok-like party for them as a result (as Morty jokes that they're making good time for it all as a result). Revealing more of their past together, Goldenfold is seen eating with the President (who was "Governor Curtis" back then) when Ice-T wins an award. Ice-T then takes all the credit for it, and it angered Curtis to the point where he kicks Goldenfold out of his life completely because he thinks Goldenfold is both a liar (for claiming to know Ice-T) and won't help him get the youth vote through rap and math.
  • All the while Sinistar Seven (who is the second in command of the Numbericons) tries to take the Eye of Harmony. When Water-T catches up to her, they begin to fight before the Eye of Harmony reveals they actually belong together in a sort of harmony through a series of visions. But before they can get to the bottom of it, Seven's father Lord Dreadnaught appears. It's here that Oxygen-S reveals that he's actually the Number 8.
  • When they're captured, Ice-T explains what really happened when he had accepted the award. It's revealed that his father disapproved of his mathematical rhythm, and it's why Ice-T refused to acknowledge Goldenfold's help. Number 8 then gets all of the power that the Numbericons were seeking, and he becomes the infinity symbol. Killing Lord Dreadnought and taking over the Numbericons in the process, they head to Alphabetrium. Water-T helps free the others by using his Ice-T form's power, and they head to the planet to help save it.
  • Meanwhile, Infinity starts destroying Alphabetrium and all letters and numbers in the process. Sinistar Seven protests this, and Infinity tries to destroy her as a result. Seven then explains that Water T's father's death was actually an assassination because while a piece of ceiling fell on him, it was Eight that actually poisoned it. Thus Infinity is the ultimate enemy of both the numbers and the letters. Teaming up at last, Goldenfold, Water-T, Morty, and Sinistar Seven then perform a song to help bring down Infinity. Water-T's father comes back as a force ghost, and when the song ends, he grants Water-T both the kingdom and new powers as "Magma-T."
  • Magma-T then activates the Eye of Harmony by kissing Seven, and it forms a gun that shoots Infinity in the private parts. Magma-T and Seven then goes on to have a happy ending. Back on Earth, both Morty and Magma-T finally do the homework that Goldenfold wanted all this time. In the post-credits scene, Ice Cube arrives and asks for help and it teases that they'll have a new adventure together.

Yellowstone Season 2 Episode 10 Recap With Spoilers: "Sins of the Father https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/yellowstone-season-2-episode-10-recap-with-spoilers-sins-of-the-father/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 03:01:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 6dcdcf8d-99b8-4498-be19-256e8f375ecc

The penultimate episode of Season 2 of Yellowstone ended on a grim note with young Tate missing. Now, in the Season 2 finale, the stakes are higher than ever for the Dutton family as their showdown with the Becks has now taken a very deeply personal turn. Here's what happened in "Sins of the Father".

Fair warning: Spoilers for Yellowstone beyond this point. Read only if you want to know.

What Happened in "Sins of the Father"?

We start with a flashback of John and his father, John Sr. as they go out for one last ride. The two have a heart to heart talk and, over the course of the talk, the elder Dutton breaks down as he talks about missing John's mother and brother. He also tells John he loves him, something John says only took the man ninety years to say. The two hug. IN the present, John says his life has been a series of losing what he loves and he's not going to lose this.

At Dan's, shortly after calling in that everything is quiet, his bodyguard is shot dead. Intruders get into Dan's house and while he's able to be alert enough to get a few shots off initially, he ends up shot. He manages to get outside where he's shot again and then the assailants leave while Dan lies on the ground dying, telling himself he has every right to be here before dying. At the ranch, John gets the family together for a meeting. He tells Beth she has to walk away from what they're doing because someone will need to be there form Tate when he comes home. The sheriff goes to Dan's and investigates the crime scene and then goes to the Yellowstone. He tells John that the Becks have off-duty officers as security and they happen to be the sheriff's cousins. John tells him to order them to stand down. However, the sheriff also warns John that in order for their plans to look legitimate, John's going to need a warrant for the cattle crimes. John does just that and gives it to Kayce. The next morning, Kayce promises Monica he will kill both Becks and he's going to get Tate back.

At the Becks, Malcom is being driven away and is pulled over by the sheriff who demands he open the trunk. Malcom threatens the sheriff after they have a tense exchange and while the sheriff lets Malcom go, Malcolm calls his brother back at the house and warns him that the sheriff is no longer on their side. The Sheriff calls John to tell him that Tate wasn't in the car. John then calls Rainwater and tells him that he should stay on the reservation. Rainwater sends someone to help John deal with the Becks. Then, once off the phone, John tells Kayce to "do it".

At the Becks' house, Kayce gives the remaining sheriff stationed outside the warrant which lets Kayce enter the property unaccompanied. He goes into the house, finds Teal on the toilet and shoots him twice in the stomach and demands to know where Tate is. Eventually, Teal tells him that Malcom used the Montana Free Militia for the kidnapping as well as their base camp location. Teal says no one ever fights back against them and they weren't prepared for the Duttons. He begs for his life and says he doesn't want to die on the toilet, but Kayce doesn't care. He kills him, then fires Teal's gun a few times, drops it by the body, and leaves him there on the toilet. Kayce updates John.

At the ranch, Beth and Jamie go outside with John and he hands Beth an envelope and tells her to amend the family trust. He tells her to read what is in the envelope and execute it. She does and doesn't tell Jamie what it says. Beth then goes to find Rip and she takes him to a field and a large house in it inside a fence. She then reads the letter to him. John's letter says he thought he had let his great-grandfather down by not having enough sons to carry on the ranch, but then he realized he has enough after all and tells Rip that he means it -- meaning that property -- is his. Rip is deeply moved that John called him his son.

Kayce comes back and John tells him to go get Rip. Rainwater's help is also there. A plan is made on how to deal with the militia and that night, when it's dark, they arrive at the camp. After some prep -- including a ritual for Rip's horse from Rainwater's man -- they begin. Rip rides up and gunfire begins to be exchanged, militia members end up shot or arrested. The livestock agents get into the building and take control of the situation and Kayce starts asking about his son but the man who tells him he knows where his son is, kills himself before telling him. Outside, a man approaches. John shoots him and it turns out to be Malcom. He shoots Malcom in the arm then and tells him that he'll get him to the hospital if he tells him where Tate is. Malcom eventually caves and tells him that Tate is being held in Whitefish. John calls for a helicopter, but Malcom realizes he's going to die and John gives him the choice of if he wants company or wants to die alone. Malcom chooses to die alone.

In Whitefish, sheriffs working with the livestock agents break down a door and take out the white supremacists that have Tate. They shaved his head and the kid is freaked out and it takes him a moment to understand he's being rescued when Kayce shows up, but he's going to be okay. Back at the Yellowstone, everyone gets word that Tate has been rescued. Beth goes outside and talks with Rip, telling him she thinks they're going to lose the ranch and she can't wait. She does wonder what he'll do, but he thinks he'll just work at a different ranch. She says she'll sleep for a year and he tells her that if she wants some company to let him know. She says she will. As she turns to head back to the house, she sees her father on the porch crying, but she doesn't go to him.

Yellowstone Season 2 Episode 9 Recap With Spoilers: "Enemies By Monday" https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/yellowstone-season-2-episode-9-enemies-by-monday/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 02:24:00 +0000 Nicole Drum e84bd5ad-a0d8-434b-b8bf-70923ac94420

Last episode of Yellowstone, the tensions between the Duttons and the Becks got even worse with the latter deciding that their next move would be to go after whoever John Dutton loves the most as their next target in order to get the rancher to do their bidding. This episode, they make good on that threat while Monica finds herself dealing with racism -- as well as finds herself with a somewhat surprising ally. Here's what happened in "Enemies by Monday."

Fair warning: Spoilers for Yellowstone beyond this point. Read only if you want to know.

What Happened in "Enemies by Monday"?

The episode starts with Kayce and Dan Jenkins' bodyguard breaking into an airplane hangar and putting a bomb into the fuel tank of the Beck brothers' plane. The next day, as they're starting to winterize the ranch, Kayce tells John the plan is in motion and there is no backing out now. Tate and Monica head off to school. Elsewhere, deputies are investigating a death and it's Jimmie's grandfather, who seemingly died from injuries sustained when Jimmie's ex-friends from his drug days came to collect on Jimmy's debt. A deputy goes to the ranch to tell Jimmy the news and Jimmy won't answer questions about if he knew who might have beat up his grandfather. When the deputy leaves, though, Jimmy is upset, telling Jamie that he had paid his debt.

Kaye, Rip, John, and others show up and find Jimmy taking his anger out on a tree and they eventually get Jimmy to explain what happened. Jimmy also tells them he wants to kill the people responsible. Rip tells him he can't do that because he'll end up back in jail and he has a better idea. When Jimmy leaves, Rip tells Kayce they need to deal with the Jimmy situation that night.

Christina calls Jamie to meet and tells him she's figured out that he killed the reporter, Sarah. Jamie doesn't deny it but tries to reassure her that she's safe. She tells Jamie he needs to try harder to be a good man and then tells him that she's pregnant -- Jamie is going to be a dad. Christina tells him he needs to either serve his father's family or his own. Meanwhile in town, Monica goes shopping in a nigh end boutique but the sales clerk is racist and treats her terribly, even has her blocked in the shop by security and accuses her of theft and calls the police. Monica makes a call -- to Beth. At the shop, the police don't find anything and the clerk lies and says she saw Monica put something in her clothes and when the police ask for camera footage, the clerk says the cameras don't work. Monica is then given the option to be searched or taken in. While Monica complies, the clerk takes a ring out of the display and hides it with her shoe and after the police say they didn't find anything, the clerk claims Monica stole the ring so the search gets upgraded to a strip search.

However, as this is going on, Beth shows up and the clerk knows her, telling Beth they're closed at the moment but Beth is looking for Monica. Beth tells the clerk she's looking for her sister-in-law and finds Monica in the dressing room and calls the cops out for unlawful search and seizure. She tells Monica to get dressed and the cops leave when they realize they're in trouble. Monica goes to leave, but Beth stops her, and locks the door and decides to deal with the clerks. She smashes some cases and calls out the clerk and then forces the clerk, Veronica to strip so she can be as humiliated as Monica was, but Monica gets her to stop and Veronica admits she was just being racist.

The two women go to a bar and talk after, with Beth warning Monica that Kayce could turn out to be just like their father and asks Monica to make sure that doesn't happen. She tells Monica that she's too good for the family and that, next time she leaves, take Kayce with her because he's too good for the family, too. That night, Rip prepares to head out with Lloyd and Jimmy to handle things and Ryan says he wants in so they all go along. Cowboy, however, packs his stuff to leave the ranch entirely. John and Tate have dinner together and then Tate goes to feed his horse outside alone but notices something in the dark that gets his attention.

The group gets to the drug dealer's place but the guy is passed out so he doesn't hear anything when a hole is drilled and a hose inserted. Jimmy goes in to get his belt buckle and then stomps on the man so he's not asleep when things go down. Jimmy manages to escape just before the house explodes. Back at the ranch, Tate doesn't return to the house and John finds Lucky outside his ring. After putting the horse away, John goes to Monica's to see if Tate is there, but he's not. When Kayce returns, they all go looking and realize something's very, very wrong and, in the morning, John finds tire tracks that definitely don't belong in the field. Kayce follows them and finds Tate's boot.

Gen V Showrunner Reveals If a Character Will Ever Make It to The Seven in The Boys https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/gen-v-who-is-joining-the-seven-the-boys-showrunner-reveals/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 01:03:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt ff65569b-f6cb-4187-8867-1ca565b6ded7

Prime Video is actively building a superhero universe of its own using Dynamite's The Boys as its base. After three seasons of The Boys, the streamer branched out earlier this fall with Gen V, a series based at a Vought-run college for superheroes. Even though it was only eight episodes long, Gen V heavily leaned into its predecessor and even featured major cameo appearances from the likes of Homelander (Antony Starr) and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban).

The characters of Gen V competed with each other for a spot on The Seven, the preeminent superhero team in this superhero universe. Even though Gen V already used the plot device, it's something the Prime property isn't going to mine all too often.

"That will always be the carrot," Gen V showrunner Michele Fazekas said of the series to TVLine. "It's like, this is a thing that you want, but the carrot is interesting because the carrot's starting to get rotten, and I think our people are starting to figure that out -- which is not to say that they're not going to take it anyway. Because if you limit their choices enough, it starts looking pretty good. But I don't know... that's another thing where you want to be very, very mindful of when you pull that card."

How does Gen V tie into The Boys Season 4?

According to The Boys creator Eric Kripke, the fourth season of The Boys will pick up just days after the first season of Gen V.

"The Homelander stuff felt, to us, like a culmination of this season of Gen V, and I would say the Butcher cameo is more than anything else what sets up Season 4," Kripke said in a recent chat with Men's Health. "Butcher, heading into Season 4, is well aware that there's this virus out there that can kill superheroes. So, we wanted to see the ground zero of that moment, which is what we did in the very, very last moments of this season of Gen V."

Gen V is the first live-action spinoff of The Boys, the hit Prime Video series based on the Dynamite Comics series. Set in Godolkin University, originally a parody of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters from Marvel's X-Men comics, the series is described as "Hunger Games" at a college and the cutthroat world of young supes trying their best to get on one of Vought's super teams, including The Seven. Former Marvel's Agent Carter showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters showrun the new series, which is executive produced by The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke and Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg. Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, and Lizze Broadway lead the new cast of Gen V, which will also see some characters from The Boys make an appearance including Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Colby Minifie as Vought's Ashley Barrett, and P.J. Byrne as director Adam Bourke.

All eight episodes of The Boys: Gen V Season One are now streaming on Prime Video. The fourth season of The Boys will hit Prime Video next year.

Star Wars: Ahsoka Star Reveals Why They Avoided Finishing Rebels https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-ahsoka-star-reveals-why-they-avoided-finishing-rebels-ezra-bridger/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 00:22:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 831ccbd2-f362-4fca-88b4-b4c38ce20bc7

Star Wars: Ahsoka was released this year and featured the live-action debut of many fan-favorite animated characters from the Star Wars universe. Rosario Dawson first played Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars: The Mandalorian, but Ahsoka saw the live-action debut of Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), and more characters from Star Wars Rebels. When Esfandi finally showed up in the series, fans had nothing but praise for the actor. Esfandi did a great job of embodying the older version of Ezra, so it might surprise you to learn that the actor didn't watch all of Star Wars Rebels.

"I admittedly - which, if you would have found this out prior you might have taken my head off, but maybe now you don't think that - I didn't watch all of Rebels," Esfandi shared at an Ahsoka panel during L.A. Comic-Con (via The Direct). "I didn't want to get too caught up in the younger version of Ezra. I felt very connected to an older version the way he was written."

"And I watched the episodes where [Ezra] had scenes very intimately with like Sabine and the Spectre crew and Ahsoka in particular," Esfandi explained. "And just to understand that dynamic. Obviously, the hologram message, and also my TikTok became flooded with the scene--rest in peace Kanan. So I was inundated with a lot of it."

"But I didn't watch it until after the show," he added. "Because Dave [Filoni], and everyone else who was directing me were so like, reaffirming. Like, 'No, yeah, that's Ezra. Oh, that's also so Ezra.' And we'd be backstage, 'That's Ezra.' I was like, 'Okay, so then I think we're good.' Like, I'll watch it later. So I didn't actually do the immersion thing until all the way after shooting."

Will Ahsoka Get a Season 2?

After Ahsoka's first season ended, Deadline reported that "Ahsoka Season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, though nothing is locked yet." Considering Ahsoka's ties with The Mandalorian and showrunner Dave Filoni's future film plans, it's pretty likely we'll be seeing the Ahsoka characters again. Before the SAG strike, ComicBook.com had the chance to chat with Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka) while she was promoting her film, Haunted Mansion, and we asked if she knew anything about Filoni's film and whether or not she would be in it.

"No. I'm just so happy he got it," Dawson shared when asked if she knew about the project. "Honestly, my uncle is a comic book artist. That is not the average transition coming from animation and going into directing, and especially a film. For all the nerds, I think for the cons and stuff, this is just like, 'Ah!' kind of status. So, I'm just super stoked for him because it really could not happen to a better person. He's so talented and remarkable and awesome, and I love him. And I think what he learned in doing in animation, he's blowing out of the water in directing and live action. So, I'm, as a fan, excited to watch that movie, whether I'm in it or not."

She added, "And I hope I'm invited to set, regardless."

Are you surprised Esfandi didn't watch all of Rebels before making Ahsoka? Tell us in the comments!

Lawmen: Bass Reeves Episode 6 Recap With Spoilers https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/lawmen-bass-reeves-episode-6-recap-spoilers-yellowstone-paramount-plus/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 00:09:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 12c72b84-c15b-4850-a23b-440d7fab0149

Last episode of Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Bass found himself face to face with a surprising figure from his past, none other than Esau Pierce, the man who killed young Curtis back in May 1865. Pierce is now a Texas Ranger and Bass had to hand over a Black prisoner to Pierce, something that didn't necessarily sit well with him. This week, things get even more uncomfortable as Bass makes a crucial connection between Pierce and a chilling story that may call quite a few things into question for the lawman. Here's what happened in "Part 6."

Warning: spoilers for Lawmen: Bass Reeves "Part 6" beyond this point.

What Happened in Lawmen: Bass Reeves "Part 6"?

Bass has to spend time with Pierce as he hands over his prisoner, Jackson Cole and while Bass would like Jackson to get a fair trial, Pierce won't promise it and says that he will get what "he deserves" instead. Bass has to let Pierce take custody of the prisoner and he leaves. Later, Bass and Billy stop at Sara Jumper's place, but things are off. Bass discovers the house is empty.

Back home, Sally meets with Arthur. Arthur says he needs to leave town as soon as possible after the fight he and Sally were in with the white boys when they were attacked after the fair. Arthur asks her to leave with him, but Sally declines saying that a Reeves doesn't run. Arthur says he will wait for her in Paris and write her a poem every day until they're together again.

Back out on the trail, Billy and Bass ride into Checotah where tensions are high. Bass goes to the bar and Billy ends up meeting up with the prostitute he's in love with, Calista. He flirts with her and gives her a book and they go off together to bed. He asks her to marry him, but she say she can't afford the ring. Bass, however, gets into a bit of an altercation of sorts with another man at the bar and it turns out the other man is Texas Ranger Braxton Sawyer (Brian Van Holt). Sawyer is pleased to meet Bass, but Bass confesses that he's struggling with the badge. After a few more drinks, Bass goes outside and finds him surrounded by Webb's people and ends up in a fight, outnumbered. Billy hears things from Calista's bed, and quickly heads down to help. Billy arrives in time to save Bass from the gang who is basically playing Russian roulette with Bass. The gang flees and Bass -- still a little drunk -- and Billy pursue. Eventually, they catch the gang, including leader Dora.

At the Reeves farm, Jennie welcomes Esme and Edwin into the home and she and Esme catch up. Outside, Sally spots one of the white boys from the fight out by the trees. She tells them she's not scared of them, then takes her little brother and goes inside. Bass returns home by dinner and right away, Bass doesn't really care for Edwin, who talks about the situation Black people find themselves in. Bass admits he's seen a lot of what Edwin is talking about, but things take a turn when Edwin starts talking about how more people should be able to be successful like Bass has been. The discussion of Edwin's idea about Black towns and states comes up and Bass has questions about where the native people will go if Edwin takes over their lands and says that his own job is to protect all people. Edwin insults Bass by suggesting he's just serving another master and Bass points out that Edwin didn't experience the same things that he and many other Black people have.

Jennie eventually figures out that Edwin wants to use Bass as a poster child for his crusade and puts a stop to Edwin's plans. Edwin apologies and he and Esme leave. Later, Bass goes to talk to Sally and apologize for missing the carnival and then also goes to apologize to Jennie for being away, but she's worried about him as he comes home less himself every time he returns. The next day, Bass gets his paycheck only to find it's short. He finds out that Pierce killed Jackson Cole but claimed that he was turned into him already dead. It's also revealed that the only thing that Pierce turned in in Fort Worth was Jackson's boots -- not his body.

It's the revelation about the boots that makes Bass realize, horribly, that Pierce might be Mister Sundown, the man from the prisoner Ramsey's chilling song and tales who is making Black men disappear. Bass confronts Ramsey about it, and Ramsey sings more of his song, including the line "no peace to be found when the sun goes down". Ramsey is taken to be hung for his crimes and Bass is right there. Right before his sentence is carried out, Ramsey yells to Bass that Mister Sundown is "cinco peso" -- and Bass realize he means Mister Sundown is a Texas Ranger, just like Pierce.

Rick and Morty Highlights "Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie" in New Clip https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-season-7-rise-of-the-numbericons/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 21:20:00 +0000 Megan Peters 4a172f39-46b7-42b3-9524-6c28ccd01cb5

Rick and Morty is getting ready for its next outing now that Sunday is here. Adult Swim brought the hit comedy back to life for season seven weeks ago, and now episode eight is on the horizon. "Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie" is just about here, and a new clip has been shared ahead of the Rick and Morty comeback.

As you can see below, well - the NSFW clip is short and to the point. We can see Morty has been chained up as a prisoner in this shot with another man. The two have encountered the entity known as Water T, and the alien isn't shy about what he wants.

"You wanna go, old man? I'll f-ck you until you love me. I'll put your kids through college. I'd f-cking take you to Boca Rotan, you motherf-cker."

So yeah, there you have it. This is now what we'd call your average hostage situation, you know?

At eight episodes in, Rick and Morty season seven has been a solid hit for Adult Swim despite its shaky start. After all, the show made headlines at the start of 2023 as co-creator and star Justin Roiland had their 2020 arrest made public. Accused of domestic assault, Roiland found himself embattled in the industry as colleagues shared their own upsetting encounters with the comedian. Adult Swim went on to end its relationship with Roiland, sparking a worldwide hunt for the new voice of Rick and Morty. Harry Belden and Ian Cardoni were asked to take the jobs, and the pair have earned solid praise since Rick and Morty season seven began.

Mobile Suit Gundam Requiem for Vengeance Trailer Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/mobile-suit-gundam-requiem-for-vengeance-trailer/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 20:47:00 +0000 Megan Peters db6925ec-d9ed-43a6-9deb-55645b16a72e

Are you ready for a brand-new take on Mobile Suit Gundam? If so, then the team at Bandai Namco Film Works has heard your prayers. Today, a trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam Requiem of Vengeance went live, and it brings the Gundam Universe into the world of 3DCG.

Created using Unreal Engine 5, the ultra-realistic animation found in Requiem of Vengeance is downright gorgeous. This new anime promised to bring the One Year War center stage once more, but we will focus on a very different part of the battle. Requiem of Vengeance will take us to the European front, so fans can get ready for a wild ride.

As you can imagine, Gundam fans are eager to see the franchise tackle a new visual style. Over the years, the Gundam IP has done it all, and this Unreal Engine take is second to none. Bandai Namco Film Works teamed with Safehouse Co. to bring this animation style to life. So hopefully, the anime itself lives up to the visuals of this gorgeous trailer.

If you are not familiar with this new Gundam project, Requiem of Vengeance was announced at Anime Expo 2023. It was there Gavin Hignight, executive producer, said this movie looked to Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt for influence alongside Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team. When the anime goes live, fans will get to see how an unseen piece of the One Year War fared from the Zeon side's POV. At this time, no release date for Requiem of Vengeance has been released, but fans are hopeful the Gundam project will launch in 2024.

Black Clover Manga Confirms Return Date https://comicbook.com/anime/news/black-clover-manga-2024-return-date/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 19:56:00 +0000 Megan Peters b8d5fcf4-7133-4386-bb48-a0a2bfa7dbb7

It feels like it has been ages since Black Clover shifted from its weekly schedule. Earlier this year, Shonen Jump said goodbye to the magical manga as Jump Giga took control of the hit. It has been months since we have seen head or tail of Asta, but that will change soon. After all, Jump Giga has a new chapter on the way, and it will be debuting at the end of December.

For those out of the loop, Black Clover has been out of commission for months now. Earlier this year, reports went live confirming Black Clover's move from Weekly Shonen Jump to Jump Giga. The big move meant Black Clover would put out four chapters a year which is a massive shift from its previous weekly run. So of course, readers are eager to see what Black Clover has been up to.

As it turns out, creator Yuki Tabata has been busy. Jump Giga will put out Black Clover chapter 369 on December 25th. It will feature a 28-page chapter and several color pages. For fans in Japan, the Jump Giga magazine will come with a special Black Clover poster celebrating the comeback. So as you can see, the magazine is very excited for Asta to join its crew.

So far, we have no idea how much longer Black Clover will run, but Tabata is hopefully enjoying a better work schedule. There is no way around the difficulty that comes with publishing a weekly manga. From One Piece to My Hero Academia, some of manga's top series have run into production issues time and again given their weekly run. Tabata admitted his grueling work-life balance is what prompted him to move Black Clover to a quarterly release. Now, fans are ready to see how this shift has helped Tabata, so the expectations for chapter 369 are high.

If you are not caught up with Black Clover just yet, you have a few weeks to prepare. The Black Clover manga can be found on the Manga Plus app. So for more info on Tabata's series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical powers, Asta is the only one in this world without any. At the age of fifteen, both receive grimoires, magic books that amplify their holder's magic. Asta's is a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponent's spells. Being opposite but good rivals, Yuno and Asta are ready for the hardest of challenges to achieve their common dream: to be the Wizard King. Giving up is never an option!"

What do you think about this Black Clover update? Are you ready for the manga's comeback? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Crunchyroll Class Action Lawsuit Deadline Nears: How to File a Claim https://comicbook.com/anime/news/crunchyroll-class-action-lawsuit-deadline/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 19:45:00 +0000 Megan Peters a1f0c3ea-4bc0-4412-b0fc-9d19c494b8b8

Crunchyroll is the go-to home for all things anime, so subscribers best listen up! If you have a history with the streaming service, you may be able to submit a claim as part of a class action lawsuit against Crunchyroll. The deadline to apply runs up in less than 10 days, so here's what you need to know about the ordeal.

Earlier this year, a class action lawsuit was filed against Crunchyroll for allegedly disclosing personally identifiable information of its users to third parties without consent. Crunchyroll was quick to deny the accusation but agreed to a settlement in order to avoid further litigation costs. As such, a $16 million USD settlement was made, and users have until December 12th to apply.

As for those eligible for the settlement, anyone submitted a claim must have been a registered user or viewed a service owned by Crunchyroll from September 8, 2020 to September 20, 2023. If that is you, eligible users must submit a claim online or through the mail by December 12th to get part of the settlement.

Currently, each affected user under the settlement is entitled to roughly $30. The official amount will be announced at a later date after final approval is given to the settlement. This verdict will be given on December 19th. So for more info on the settlement, you can visit the class action case's website here. So if you were impacted by this Crunchyroll case, be sure to submit your claim by December 12 if you want reparations.

No, Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Did Not Announce Season 3 https://comicbook.com/anime/news/no-jujutsu-kaisen-creator-did-not-announce-season-3/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 17:50:00 +0000 Megan Peters 732cca9a-fcc5-4f44-947f-c0320a2b1906

If you know anything about anime these days, then you know Jujutsu Kaisen is at the top. The supernatural shonen made its anime debut in 2020, and Gege Akutami's story has only grown bigger since. In recent years, the artist has become quite involved with the show may it be through supervision or otherwise. But despite a viral rumor, no - Akutami did not confirm Jujutsu Kaisen season three is a go.

The whole thing went live on X (Twitter) thanks to an impersonation page. An account with the name Gege Akutami caught the eye of fans as it posted what looked like a poster for Jujutsu Kaisen season three. The artwork put the Culling Game center stage, so a number of netizens checked it out. In fact, the post earned well over three million views before fans stepped in to stop the rumor.

After all, the X (Twitter) page does not belong to Akutami. The manga creator does not have any public social media presence. While artists like Kohei Horikoshi and Yoshihiro Togashi use social media, Akutami keeps out of the spotlight, so this season three rumor was easy to bunk. However, it did get out of hand before social media cautioned fans.

At this moment, Jujutsu Kaisen season two is still underway, so the Shibuya Incident arc has more to go through. MAPPA Studios has not touched upon the future of Jujutsu Kaisen, but its popularity has netizens feeling good about what's next. The only issue standing in the anime's way is its studio's controversial work conditions. In the past month, a number of animators on Jujutsu Kaisen have stood up against MAPPA Studio for its outrageous production schedule. So hopefully, these internal issues will be addressed before Jujutsu Kaisen season three gets off the ground.

Want to know more about Jujutsu Kaisen? The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll right now. So if you want to know more about the series, you can read the official synopsis for Jujutsu Kaisen below:

"Yuji Itadori is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a classmate who has been attacked by curses, he eats the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, taking the curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with Ryomen Sukuna. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori is admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights the curses... and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back."

Doctor Who: What Is the Flux? https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/doctor-who-what-is-the-flux-special-2-wild-blue-yonder/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 17:31:00 +0000 Jamie Lovett 71e199ea-60f7-47a9-a3d5-d2fe365e4d68

Doctor Who Special Two: "Wild Blue Yonder" debuted on Saturday and is easily one of the strangest Doctor Who episodes in recent memory, involving a ship stuck at the edge of the universe and form-stealing alien beings from beyond. One of the Doctor's conversations with one of those aliens brought up something called "the Flux," a concept that weighs heavily on the Doctor. However, Doctor Who fans who missed the most recent season of Doctor Who may not be familiar with the Flux. It's easy enough to gather the essentials about the Flux through the context clues in the special's dialogue, but if you want more background on the Flux, we're here to help.

Showrunner Russell T Davies did warn fans that "Wild Blue Yonder" would touch on the previous era of Doctor Who, saying "The history of The Flux and The Timeless Child is dealt with very slightly in this episode." If that didn't get you to go back to watch or rewatch Doctor Who Season 13, also called Doctor Who: Flux, then here's what you missed about the Flux:

doctor-who-the-flux.jpg
(Photo: BBC)

What is the Flux in Doctor Who?

Doctor Who: Flux was an unusual season of Doctor Who because it was the first season of the show since The Trial of a Time Lord (Season 23 of the original Doctor Who series) to tell a serialized story throughout. That overarching plot stemmed from the previous season's "Timeless Child" plot, revealing that the Doctor isn't native to Gallifrey but from someplace unknown. They are also not one of the Time Lords but the origin of their regenerative ability. Doctor Who: Flux begins with the release of the Flux itself, a destructive mass that uses anti-matter to destroy entire regions of space. It's compared to a galactic hurricane in the show but is more like a weapon of universal destruction.

The Doctor eventually learns that the Division, the Time Lords' shadow organization that the Doctor worked for in their forgotten lives, created and activated the Flux. Their reasons were two-fold. As explained by Tecteun, the Doctor's adoptive mother who leads the Division, they'd discovered another universe and planned to abandon their native one, believing it a lost cause, for a fresh start in the new one. The Flux would destroy the entire previous universe, ensuring that the Doctor wouldn't hound the Division. Additionally, the Flux would provide the momentum needed to send the Division's base into the second universe.

The Flux is released in waves. The first Flux event wiped out entire galaxies. With the help of sympathetic Division agents, the Doctor slows the second Flux event and eventually stops it, releasing its destructive potential on the amassed Cyber-Fleet, Dalek War Fleet, and Sontaran Empire fleet. However, it destroys more of the galaxy before the Doctor can end the threat.

The lasting consequences of the Flux remain ill-defined. After quelling the Flux's immediate threat, the Doctor believed they could somehow "decompress" the Flux. In theory, this would reverse the Flux's effects. However, the Dalek Executioner who comes for the Doctor in the holiday episode "Eve of the Daleks" states that the Doctor is responsible for "the destruction of millions of Daleks" in the Dalek War Fleet. In "Wild Blue Yonder," the Doctor laments that the Flux destroyed "half the universe." Both episodes suggest that the Doctor either didn't or couldn't go through with the "decompression" theory to reverse its effects, but the details are still vague.

What does the Flux mean for Doctor Who going forward?

While the Flux is a relatively new concept, seeing the Doctor wrestle with past regrets should be familiar to anyone who watched David Tennant's original Doctor Who run. During that time, the Doctor wrestled with guilt over the drastic measures he enacted to end the Time War, releasing a weapon called the Moment, which wiped both the Daleks and the Time Lords from the universe.

The Flux is weighing similarly on the Doctor now, but there are differences. The Doctor's experience during the Time War left him with PTSD, but it's important to note that, in the case of the Moment, he was wielding the weapon. With the Flux, the Doctor was the weapon's target. What he's dealing with now is a combination of a survivor's guilt, as he's asking himself whether his life was worth all of that destruction, and a breakdown of identity due to the revelation that he is not from Gallifrey (something Jodie Whittaker's Doctor began wrestling with towards the end of her run). Whether this resolves when the Doctor regenerates again in the final Doctor Who Special, "The Giggle," or carries over into the next Doctor Who era remains to be seen.

How to Watch Doctor Who?

The Doctor Who 60th-anniversary specials are airing on three consecutive Saturdays. Each special debuts at 6:30 p.m. on the BBC in the United Kingdom and simulcasts streaming on Disney+ in international markets.

Doctor Who's third and final 60th-anniversary special, "The Giggle," debuts Saturday, December 9th on the BBC and Disney+. The Doctor Who Christmas Special will follow on Christmas Day.

Sammy Davis Jr. Series Not Moving Forward at Hulu https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/sammy-davis-jr-series-not-moving-forward-at-hulu/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 17:24:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 91afd707-c761-4b2a-81a4-f1fd92d3f136

Hulu has become a streaming site known for adapting stories based on real people. They've shown the ins and outs of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee's relationship in Pam & Tommy and showcased the story of Mike Tyson in Mike. Previously, it was announced that the streamer would be telling the story of Rat Pack icon, Sammy Davis Jr. The series was set to be produced by Lee Daniels and 20th Television and saw Elijah Kelley taking on the lead role. According to a new report from Deadline, the series is no longer moving forward at Hulu, and is being shopped to other buyers.

In addition to shopping the series to other streamers, it's being reported that 20th Century plans to attach more high-level talent before moving forward with their "aggressive effort to find a new home" for the show. The limited series was originally ordered by Hulu in April of 2022. In February of this year, Kimberly Harrison (The Crossover) was hired as the showrunner. The series was written by Lee Daniels and Thomas Westfall and is based on Will Haygood's biography, In Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis Jr. You can read a description of the series below:

"It centers on Davis (Kelley), who rose from childhood stardom on the vaudeville stage to become one of the most famous African American entertainers of the 1950s and '60s (and the only Black member of Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack). At the same time, he spent most of his career surrounded by controversy and ridicule - over his affairs with white film stars, his 1960 marriage to Swedish actress May Britt, his conversion to Judaism, his closeness to the Kennedys (and later Richard Nixon) and his problems with alcohol and drugs."

Disney+ Scraps The Spiderwick Chronicles:

20th Century recently had to shop another project after it was ditched by its original streamer. The Spiderwick Chronicles is based on the book series by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black and was originally supposed to debut on Disney+. After the show had already been completed, it was announced that the steamer would no longer release the series.

Deadline previously reported that the move to cancel the series from Disney+ comes "amid a focus on content curation and Disney-owned IP." The Spiderwick Chronicles is one of the rare projects for Disney+ that was based on non-Disney IP. However, it was announced in October that Roku had acquired the rights to the series.

"It is an honor to bring The Spiderwick Chronicles, a spectacular adventure-filled story led by the incredible Christian Slater and Joy Bryant, exclusively to The Roku Channel," Head of Originals, Roku Media Brian Tannenbaum said. "We cannot wait to introduce this exquisitely crafted series, imagined by a world-class creative team, to millions of streamers."

Dragon Ball Star Masako Nozawa Wants to Act Until She's 182 https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-z-masako-nozawa-age/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 17:16:00 +0000 Megan Peters c11be4fe-dda8-4e1d-b62f-9b95db15aaa1

There are talent voice actors, and then there are people like Masako Nozawa. Over the last few decades, the actress has proven themselves time and again to anime fans. From Doraemon to Dragon Ball, Nozawa's legacy runs wide, and it seems the voice actor is game to work until she's the oldest lady on the planet.

The information comes from Nozawa herself as the 87-year-old actress appeared at the 71st Kan Kikuchi Prize Awards. Taking to the stage, Nozawa admitted she has no plans on retiring anytime soon, and she would love to act until she's about 200 years old. So between you and me, modern medicine best find a way to make this happen!

"I want to continue voice acting until I'm 182 years old," Nozawa shared with her fellow actors. At her current age, Nozawa has been working since the 1960s, and the Japanese actress is still going strong with her roles.

After all, anime fans have long heard Nozawa as the voice of Son Goku in Dragon Ball. She originated the role decades ago, and Nozawa still voices Goku to this day. She also oversees the voices of Gohan and Goten, so Nozawa keeps her voice within the family so far as Dragon Ball is concerned.

As for her other work, Nozawa has starred in Gegege no Kitaro as its titular characters. The actress has also worked on Galaxy Express 999, Doraemon, Digimon, and even One Piece. Referred to as the "Eternal Boy", Nozawa has gained fame for voicing a number of high-profile boys in the shonen genre. Still, the actress has proven her versatility in the recording booth, and that is why many netizens consider Nozawa as one of the best voice actors to date.

Soon, Nozawa will add another Dragon Ball title to her resume. The actress is expected to reprise her role as Goku in Dragon Ball Daima, a new anime TV series that will debut in 2024. The show will follow Goku as he and his cohorts are turned into kids by a rogue with. So with the help of the Kaioshin, Goku will be forced to travel the universe in a bid to return himself to normal.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Releases New Images https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-x-kong-the-new-empire-image/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 16:28:00 +0000 Megan Peters c213efdc-bcd0-4796-b107-0a47926f29d0

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is ready to take the MonsterVerse to a new level. While Monarch: Legacy of Monarch has taken the franchise to television, all eyes are on Hollywood's next move. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire promises to show us a new side of our favorite titans, and we've been given a brand-new look at the movie.

As you can see below, the new images come courtesy of IGN in the wake of CCXP in Brazil. The big convention saw Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire take over the floor, and director Adam Wingard made an appearance to boot. Of course, this means the movie's publicity team was working overtime this weekend, so fans were gifted with three new stills from Godzilla x Kong.

godzilla-kong.png
(Photo: Warner Bros. Discovery)

As you can see above, the stills each focus on different faces. In one, we are given a good look at the movie's human leads including actor Dan Stevens. The group seems to be walking through a compound hallway of sorts while they wear military fatigues. So you guessed it! The military is going to be servicing Monarch and the MUTOs in some way.

Now, the other two stills are the ones stirring conversation. After all, the first puts Kong center stage, and the ape is looking older than ever. Donning a thick beard and brows, Kong seems to be wearing a fur shawl while exploring the Hollow Earth with a spear in hand. As for the other image, well - we can see Godzilla in shadow. It seems the atomic titan has cocooned itself deep under the water to absorb radiation, and Godzilla will surely reemerge more powerful than ever.

Luckily, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will not pit these titans against one another. The two went head-to-head in Godzilla vs Kong, but now the time has come for the duo to work together. After all, previous promos suggest an ancient primate from the Hollow Earth is eager to reign over Earth, and it will fall on Godzilla and Kong to keep the Scar King at bay.

Want to know more about Godzilla x Kong? No sweat! You can read the movie's official synopsis below:

"This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence - and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."

Zack Snyder Reveals His Adaptation of a Controversial Comic Series Has Been Scrapped https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/zack-snyder-reveals-adaptation-of-a-controversial-comic-series-black-kiss-been-scrapped/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 16:00:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak a319ec59-13f8-44f4-ae65-733c7f2b83e8

Zack Snyder is no stranger to adapting comic books. The director is known for helming many comic book adaptations, especially those in the DC universe. Snyder's filmography includes Watchmen, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League. Previously, it was revealed that Snyder acquired the rights to Black Kiss, an erotic comic by Howard Chaykin from 1988. It's considered one of the most controversial comics of the 1980s and featured themes such as a trans femme fatale, sex, violence against religious figures and children, and vampires. However, the director recently revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that despite writing a TV pilot based on Black Kiss, the project is not moving forward.

"No one wanted to make it," said Snyder. "It was too weird. We really went for it, too."

What Is Rebel Moon About?

Snyder's next film, Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire, is being released later this month. You can check out a description below:

"In Rebel Moon: Part One: A Child of Fire, when a peaceful settlement on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Motherworld, Kora assembles a small band of warriors -- outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a new army of heroes is formed."

The Mummy and Star Trek: Beyond's Sofia Boutella leads the cast of Rebel Moon, starring as Kora, a former member of the "Imperium," Kora lives on the moon Vedt and who assembles a team to take them on. Sons of Anarchy and Pacific Rim's Charlie Hunnam plays Kai a "mercenary starship pilot;" Game of Thrones' Michiel Huisman is Gunnar; a farmer recruited for the cause; Blood Diamond and Shazam's Djimon Hounsou is General Titus; Supergirl's Staz Nair is Tarak, a blacksmith working off a debt as an indentured servant, previously compared to Tarzan; Cloud Atlas' Doona Bae as Nemesis, called a "swordmaster" who is revealed to be part mechanical; Justice League's Ray Fisher and Dopesick's Cleopatra Coleman as brother-sister resistance fighters Darrian and Devra; plus Newcomer E. Duffy as Milius; the final member of the assembled group.

Sucker Punch's Jena Malone reunites with Snyder for the film, playing a character not named but described as "an ethereal spider-being." Others include Deadpool's Ed Skrein as Admiral Nobl, Hawkeye's Fra Fee as Regent Balisarius, and Sir Anthony Hopkins as Jimmy, an ornate, centuries-old robot.

Other cast members have also been confirmed for the film, or perhaps its sequel, but haven't yet had their character details confirmed, these include: newcomer Charlotte Maggi, Halo's Sky Yang, Ant-Man's Corey Stoll, The Princess Bride's Cary Elwes, Ozark's Alfonso Herrera, For All Mankind's Rhian Rees, and Darkseid himself, Ray Porter, have all been confirmed to appear as well.

Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire is set for release on Netflix on December 22.

Oshi no Ko Theme Song Ranks as Spotify's Top Song in Japan https://comicbook.com/anime/news/oshi-no-ko-anime-theme-song-spotify/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 15:48:00 +0000 Megan Peters ab4e536c-4550-4043-81aa-a6fcff4f9102

Oshi no Ko has made quite the name for itself. Since the anime went live, Oshi no Ko has become one of this year's must-watch series. The idol drama has amassed a massive fandom, and a number of its lovers were roped in by the theme song for Oshi no Ko. The track by Yoasobi was hard to overlook after the show went live, and now, it seems "Idol" has been gifted a prestigious award by Spotify.

After all, the new year is upon us, and that means round-ups for 2023 are underway. Spotify has been hard at work putting its data on show as millions of users were sent their Wrapped info this month. Now, nationwide data from Spotify is going live, and it turns out "Idol" was the most-streamed song on Spotify in Japan.

Yes, you heard that right. "Idol" really did that. The song overcame every other in Japan to come out on top, and we're sure the Oshi no Ko team is living for this accolade.

After all, "Idol" has become quite the hit with fans. Yoasobi released the hit track in tandem with Oshi no Ko, and the show's gorgeous opening gave the upbeat song the perfect visuals. It didn't take long for the anime's ear worm to go viral, and no "Idol" has appeared in media across the globe. However, there is no denying Oshi no Ko put the song on blast, so we can all thank the anime for its part.

Of course, Oshi no Ko is far from over. The anime's first season wrapped earlier this year, but Oshi no Ko season two is in the works. If you want to catch up on the show, Oshi no Ko can be streamed on HIDIVE. So for more information on the series, you can read the official synopsis of Oshi no Ko below:

"Gorou is an ob-gyn with a life far removed from the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry-the world of his favorite idol, rising star Ai Hoshino. But when the two are unexpectedly brought together, their fates become intertwined in ways that defy all reason. For the good doctor, it's time to stan(d) and deliver!"

How many times have you listened to "Idol" since Oshi no Ko went live? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Doctor Who Pays Tribute to Bernard Cribbins https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/doctor-who-special-2-bernard-cribbins-wilfred-mott/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 15:10:00 +0000 Jamie Lovett e71c5ddb-2df0-450b-9693-54a57df8b4c3

Doctor Who has said "farewell" to Bernard Cribbins, who appeared in Doctor Who for the last time in the second 60th-anniversary special, "Wild Blue Yonder." Cribbins' first Doctor Who experience was playing Tom Campbell in the 1966 film Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., which is not considered canon with the television series. In the show, Cribbins played Wilfred Mott, the grandfather of the Doctor's companion, Donna Noble. Cribbins' previous final appearance on Doctor Who was alongside David Tennant during his farewell episode, "The End of Time." He returned in "Wild Blue Yonder," waiting for the TARDIS to reappear with Donna, just as she predicted he would. Mott and the Doctor are delighted to see each other again and express their fondness with a hug.

"Wilfred Mott - now I feel better," the Doctor says. "Now nothing is wrong, nothing in the whole wide world."

Doctor Who Pays Tribute to Bernard Cribbins

Unfortunately, this will be Cribbins' final appearance on Doctor Who. The actor died in 2022 at the age of 93. The official Doctor Who social media accounts shared photos of Cribbins working on "Wild Blue Yonder" while showrunner Russell T Davies shared his remembrance of the Cribbins, noting that he'd written more lines for Wilfred Mott, but Cribbins died before they could film them.

"Farewell, old soldier," Davies writes on Instgram. "That's goodnight and goodbye to our beloved Bernard. Wilf is mentioned in dispatches next week, all safe and sound, don't worry, but that's the only scene Bernard was able to film. We had a wonderful time! We'd never lost touch, in all these years, so I phoned him up and asked him to come back. He sniffed and said, 'Let me see the script.'? We had a wonderful readthrough with 120 people at which he was adored by one and all. A lovely dinner in Cardiff where he regaled us with tales galore, twinkling as ever. Then the shoot in Camden - you can see in Unleashed and read in next week's DWM how much he enjoyed that. And then... we had a little more written, but it wasn't to be; at 93 years old, the old soldier had given us his best, and stepped away. Night, Bernard, and thank you. I love you.?"

Davies had penned a similar tribute to Cribbins upon his passing. He wrote, "Bernard Cribbins (1928-2022) I love this man. I love him. That's him as Snout in A Midsummer Night's Dream. D'you fancy doing some Shakespeare, Bernard? 'Let me see the script.' He knew everyone! He'd talk about the Beatles and David Niven, and how he once sat on the stairs at a party impersonating bird calls with T H White," Davies wrote. "Then he'd add, 'I said to Ashley Banjo last week...' He loved being in Doctor Who. He said, 'Children are calling me grandad in the street!' His first day was on location with Kylie Minogue, but all eyes, even Kylie's, were on Bernard."

"He'd turned up with a suitcase full of props, just in case, including a rubber chicken. And what an actor. Oh, really though, what a wonderful actor. We once took him to the TV Choice Awards and sent him up on his own to collect the award, and the entire room stood up and cheered him," he added. "That's a lovely memory. He'd phone up and say, 'I've got an idea! What if I attack a Dalek with a paintball gun?!' Okay, Bernard, in it went! He loved Gill with all his heart; he mentioned her in every conversation we ever had. A love story for the ages. I'm so lucky to have known him. Thanks for everything, my old soldier. A legend has left the world."

Saturday Night Live: Emma Stone, SNL Cast Strip Down for Naked in New York Music Video https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/saturday-night-live-emma-stone-snl-cast-naked-in-new-york-music-video/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 14:10:00 +0000 Spencer Perry dda1009d-7715-4aad-a69c-7bab2c6da10c

One of the first sketches to appear on tonight's episode of Saturday Night Live was a pre-recorded sketch with host Emma Stone and most of the SNL cast going around New York City in their birthday suits. It all starts with Bowen Yang and Stone singing about being down on their luck, and there's only one thing that can cheer them up: "Ridiing on the back of a garbage truck fully naked in the middle of New York City at 11 AM." It carries on as even more cast members get involved, enjoying their time doing work in New York City while wearing nothing at all (some where gloves, other police hats).

The whole sketch ends with the reveal that even the Statue of Liberty has ditched her robe and has everything hanging out in the cold New York air. Naturally, none of the cast members in the sketch are actually naked, as very briefly the blur effect used to cover their flesh-color underwear is visible in one shot.

Who is in the Saturday Night Live cast?

Cast members for Saturday Night Live season 49 include almost the entire cast from season 48 of SNL. Returning stars include Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, James Austin Johnson, Punkie Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, and Bowen Yang. Featured players that are part of the cast include returning stars Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker, plus the show's only fully new cast member for the year, newcomer Chloe Troast. The comedy troupe Please Don't Destroy, made up of Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy, are also a recurring part of the series.

New Saturday Night Live Hosts

With the SAG-AFTRA Strike still without a resolution, Saturday Night Live is unable to tap actors to host new episodes since previously they would only appear on the series to promote some new work (prohibited by the rules of the SAG-AFTRA strike). As a result comedians and musicians have been the only hosts confirmed for Saturday Night Live season 49 with Pete Davidson, Bad Bunny, and Nate Bargatze taking the spotlight for the first three episodes.

Saturday Night Live Season 49 is ongoing now with new episodes airing on both NBC and Peacock, starting Saturdays at 11:30 PM ET. All 48 seasons of Saturday Night Live are also now streaming on Peacock.

Saturday Night Live: Tina Fey, Candice Bergen Welcome Emma Stone to Five Timers Club https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/saturday-night-live-emma-stone-five-timers-club/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 05:21:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt 85a00e57-0031-431d-9e36-bbd01c30c9d7

Saturday Night Live's most exclusive club has grown by one. In the show's latest edition, host Emma Stone officially joined the club as she was awarded her Five-Timers jacket. Stone didn't have to wait long to get her jacket, with some of the show's most popular guests arriving during the actor's opening monologue, including Tina Fey and Candice Bergen.

"It's my fifth time hosting SNL. It has always been my favorite show and since I started hosting it's also become just a huge part of my life and I've made so many memories here. And so many friends and I even met my husband at SNL," Stone started her monologue with before the camera panned over to SNL creator Lorne Michaels as the crowd erupted in laughter.

That's when Fey and Bergen cut her off to give Stone her Five-Timers jacket, before joking about John Mulaney, Martin Short, and Woody Harrelson.

The jacket is given to those who appear as a host or musical guest at least five times on the show, an increasingly common feat as the show nears its 50th season. Woody Harrelson was the last person to get his Five-Timers jacket, snagging the award after his Season 48 hosting gig in February. At that time, Scarlett Johansson--a Fiver-Timer who joined the club in 2017--was on-hand to gift Harrelson his award at the time.

Next weekend's host, Adam Driver, is also creeping up on the milestone. His next hosting gig will be his fourth, giving him just one more stop before he gets his jacket as well.

Who is Emma Stone married to?

Believe it or not, but Stone isn't married to Lorne Michaels. Instead, she's married to comedian Dave McCary, a former segment director of the live sketch comedy. Prior to his time on SNL, McCary was part of the Good Neighbor comedy troupe alongside SNL alumni Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, and Nick Rutherford.

Stone and McCary first started dating in 2017 before getting engaged two years later. The two eventually married in 2020 and had their first child together in 2021.
