This year's writers' and actors' strikes caused major delays with a number of productions, and now that those strikes have been resolved, productions have finally been able to move forward, which includes multiple Lucasfilm productions being able to be completed. Despite work continuing on these projects, a recent UK press release from Disney+ hints that fans might not be getting as much Star Wars content on the platform in 2024, as it merely claims that fans can expect Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and Star Wars: The Acolyte debuting on the streamer. With new seasons of Star Wars: Andor, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi all expected in 2024, it's unclear if those projects have been delayed until 2025 or if this press release was merely specifying all-new programs coming to Disney+.

The release explains, "Star Wars: The Acolyte will premiere on Disney+ in 2024. The series is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew tells the story of four kids who find themselves lost in the vastness of the galaxy trying to find their way home. This series will arrive on the platform in 2024."

What's worth noting, however, is that, when it comes to Marvel programs, this release only notes that Echo, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and X-Men '97 are the projects coming to the streamer in 2024, which are also all-new series. When spotlighting Hulu originals, though, the release confirms that new seasons of The Bear and Welcome to Wrexham will be debuting next year.

Given this year's strikes, it seems as though the entire slate of upcoming releases is unconfirmed, as the holiday season likely also will be causing some complications for the future of many franchises. With a number of studios still adjusting their release schedules for 2024, it's likely that we won't get concrete details on movie and TV releases until we're in the new year, and even then, the studios could still make some adjustments. Still, this release reminds us we have two new live-action series to look forward to in the new year.

Stay tuned for updates on Star Wars TV series.

A Disturbance in the Force Clip Recruits Writers for the Star Wars Holiday Special (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-holiday-special-disturbance-in-the-force-documentary-clip/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 16:56:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 3ae589f8-6fc7-4138-ba54-2cd15c017110

With virtually any program that embraces the spirit of a holiday, whether it's a sitcom or a variety show, by exploring iconic elements of any season celebration, the project will return on an annual basis. In the case of the infamous The Star Wars Holiday Special, however, the 1978 broadcast of the project was met with such negative reactions, it was never shown again, much to the surprise of the writing team responsible of bringing the special to life. An exclusive clip from the documentary A Disturbance in the Force highlights the surprised reactions of the writing team in regard to its attempted erasure. You can check out the clip above and see A Disturbance in the Force when it hits Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on December 5th.

Per press release, "September Club and Giant Pictures bring home A Disturbance in the Force on December 5th from a galaxy far far away to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the most infamous story in the history of Star Wars. The acclaimed documentary made its debut at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival and chronicles the making of the bizarre (and buried) Star Wars Holiday Special as well as a specific bygone era of 1970s event television. Discover the 'hilarious secrets behind Star Wars' iconically awful Holiday Special' (The Daily Beast) when A Disturbance in the Force arrives on digital platforms, DVD, and Blu-ray on December 5th via Giant Pictures.

"From the filmmakers behind Napoleon Dynamite and Raiders! The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made, comes A Disturbance in the Force, the documentary about the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special. In 1977, Star Wars became a cultural phenomenon that single-handedly revitalized a stagnant film industry, and forever changed how films were sold, made, and marketed. In 1978, filmmaker George Lucas was talked into cashing in on the Star Wars craze by producing a holiday variety TV special. What could possibly go wrong? ANSWER: Everything...

"CBS aired the two-hour Star Wars Holiday Special during the week of Thanksgiving and it was watched by 13 million people. It never re-aired. While some fans of the franchise are aware of this dark secret, this bizarre two hours of television still remains relatively unknown among the general public. Simply put, the documentary will answer how and why the Holiday Special got made.

"Produced by September Club with Giant Pictures handling digital and home entertainment distribution, A Disturbance in the Force can also be experienced in select screenings across the US, UK, and Australia ahead of its digital and home entertainment launch on December 5th on Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and Vudu."

A Disturbance in the Force hits Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on December 5th.

Star Wars: Ahsoka Star Reveals Why They Avoided Finishing Rebels https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-ahsoka-star-reveals-why-they-avoided-finishing-rebels-ezra-bridger/ Mon, 04 Dec 2023 00:22:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 831ccbd2-f362-4fca-88b4-b4c38ce20bc7

Star Wars: Ahsoka was released this year and featured the live-action debut of many fan-favorite animated characters from the Star Wars universe. Rosario Dawson first played Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars: The Mandalorian, but Ahsoka saw the live-action debut of Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), and more characters from Star Wars Rebels. When Esfandi finally showed up in the series, fans had nothing but praise for the actor. Esfandi did a great job of embodying the older version of Ezra, so it might surprise you to learn that the actor didn't watch all of Star Wars Rebels.

"I admittedly - which, if you would have found this out prior you might have taken my head off, but maybe now you don't think that - I didn't watch all of Rebels," Esfandi shared at an Ahsoka panel during L.A. Comic-Con (via The Direct). "I didn't want to get too caught up in the younger version of Ezra. I felt very connected to an older version the way he was written."

"And I watched the episodes where [Ezra] had scenes very intimately with like Sabine and the Spectre crew and Ahsoka in particular," Esfandi explained. "And just to understand that dynamic. Obviously, the hologram message, and also my TikTok became flooded with the scene--rest in peace Kanan. So I was inundated with a lot of it."

"But I didn't watch it until after the show," he added. "Because Dave [Filoni], and everyone else who was directing me were so like, reaffirming. Like, 'No, yeah, that's Ezra. Oh, that's also so Ezra.' And we'd be backstage, 'That's Ezra.' I was like, 'Okay, so then I think we're good.' Like, I'll watch it later. So I didn't actually do the immersion thing until all the way after shooting."

Will Ahsoka Get a Season 2?

After Ahsoka's first season ended, Deadline reported that "Ahsoka Season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, though nothing is locked yet." Considering Ahsoka's ties with The Mandalorian and showrunner Dave Filoni's future film plans, it's pretty likely we'll be seeing the Ahsoka characters again. Before the SAG strike, ComicBook.com had the chance to chat with Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka) while she was promoting her film, Haunted Mansion, and we asked if she knew anything about Filoni's film and whether or not she would be in it.

"No. I'm just so happy he got it," Dawson shared when asked if she knew about the project. "Honestly, my uncle is a comic book artist. That is not the average transition coming from animation and going into directing, and especially a film. For all the nerds, I think for the cons and stuff, this is just like, 'Ah!' kind of status. So, I'm just super stoked for him because it really could not happen to a better person. He's so talented and remarkable and awesome, and I love him. And I think what he learned in doing in animation, he's blowing out of the water in directing and live action. So, I'm, as a fan, excited to watch that movie, whether I'm in it or not."

She added, "And I hope I'm invited to set, regardless."

Are you surprised Esfandi didn't watch all of Rebels before making Ahsoka? Tell us in the comments!

Star Wars: Adam Driver Says He's Reminded of One Kylo Ren Scene "Every Day" https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-adam-driver-says-hes-reminded-han-solo-death-scene-every-day/ Sun, 03 Dec 2023 01:56:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak da21c4b4-eb24-4eb2-8a08-94be35855f9f

Adam Driver is currently promoting his new film Ferrari which sees him starring as Enzo Ferrari. Naturally, some of Driver's past performances are coming up during various interviews, including his time playing Kylo Ren/Ben Solo in the Star Wars sequels. During a recent appearance on Max's Who's Talking to Chris Wallace, Driver revealed the one moment from the trilogy he can't seem to live down. You won't surprised to learn that it's the moment Kylo kills Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

"Somebody reminds me about that every day," Driver shared. When asked if he was being series, Driver added, "Not every day, but yeah. It used to be more, but now it's probably once a month someone will let me know that I killed Han Solo." Driver talked more about filming the infamous moment, saying it wasn't necessarily "tough," but "very emotional actually." He added, "Harrison was so generous and contemplative, and to me, that was a great moment on set, even though it was his death."

Will Adam Driver Return To Star Wars?

Now that a movie about Rey (Daisy Ridley) is in the works at Lucasfilm, some folks are wondering if Adam Driver will return as Ben Solo. In the world of Star Wars, there's always room for a Force Ghost or flashback.

"No, I'm totally not against it. For me, it's a filmmaker's medium, so my only thing is working with great filmmakers," Driver confirmed with UNILAD back in 2021. "Whatever the size ... it's never been interesting to me, to an extent. There's interesting things about working on both. I always just follow people I'd be interested in working with, and whether I'd be right for the part -- things like that. No, definitely not averse."

What Is Ferrari About?

You can read the official description for Ferrari here: "It is the summer of 1957. Behind the spectacle of Formula 1, ex-racer Enzo Ferrari is in crisis. Bankruptcy threatens the factory he and his wife, Laura built from nothing ten years earlier. Their volatile marriage has been battered by the loss of their son, Dino a year earlier. Ferrari struggles to acknowledge his son Piero with Lina Lardi. Meanwhile, his drivers' passion to win pushes them to the edge as they launch into the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mille Miglia.

Ferrari stars Adam Driver, Pen?lope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Sarah Gordon, Gabriel Leone, Jack O'Connell, and Patrick Dempsey. The film was directed by Michael Mann from a screenplay by Troy Kennedy Martin.

Ferrari will be in theaters on December 25th.

Ahsoka: Dave Filoni Recalls "Jaw-Dropping" Moment on Set With Ariana Greenblatt https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/ahsoka-dave-filoni-recalls-jaw-dropping-moment-on-set-with-ariana-greenblatt/ Sat, 02 Dec 2023 00:59:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 4a9bafbc-04d3-4d7c-8faf-8582e96c6c4c

Dave Filoni has been involved with Star Wars for many years, and one of his biggest claims to fame was creating the character Ahsoka Tano alongside George Lucas. Ahsoka was originally voiced by Ashley Eckstein in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels before Rosario Dawson took on the role in live-action in Star Wars: The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Star Wars: Ahsoka. The fifth episode of Ahsoka marked the first time the younger version of the character had been seen in live-action, and she was played by Barbie's Ariana Greenblatt. Recently, Filoni spoke with the Dagobah Dispatch podcast (via ScreenRant) and recalled how it felt seeing Greenblatt on set.

"For me, the weirdest one had to be when, and there were a lot of great moments with so many of the people and characters, but when I saw Ariana as young Ahsoka, that was a real thunderbolt," Filoni shared. "Because that character in that form is really the first thing that I contributed to Star Wars and at Lucasfilm. She was a discussion point from, really, day one with George and I, in the very beginning. I remember drawing that character and figuring out what she was gonna look like before anybody was even aware that Anakin even had a Padawan."

He continued, "There was this awesome moment where Ariana was sitting there on the ground, kinda kneeling, and she was telling... I don't know what she was talking about, but she was telling this story to a bunch of guys dressed as clones, and it was the most one-to-one real thing I'd ever seen. I just sat there and stared at it, and it was so... she wasn't acting, she wasn't being Ahsoka, but she was being so Ahsoka. I was like, 'Wow, it's exactly what it was, this young girl captivated all these soldiers, 'cause she's got that charisma, she was that thing.' That was kind of really jaw-dropping for me. Those were very fun days. Those were the days where people would just filter onto the set that normally aren't there, because they just wanted to stand there and watch it. We had planned that whole sequence to a T."

Will Ahsoka Get a Season 2?

After Ahsoka's first season came to an end, Deadline reported that "Ahsoka Season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, though nothing is locked yet." Considering Ahsoka's ties with The Mandalorian and Filoni's future film plans, it's pretty likely we'll be seeing the Ahsoka characters again. Star Wars: Rhys Darby Addresses Possibilty of Joining Taika Waititi's Project https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-rhys-darby-addresses-possibilty-of-joining-taika-waititis-project/ Thu, 30 Nov 2023 18:01:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak d0d18199-05cf-4152-aee1-36834ae4dc72

Taika Waititi is known for directing an array of films, including Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder. Soon, the creative will be moving on to Star Wars, and he recently teased that he wants his film to feel like the original trilogy and that he hopes his movie will "piss people off." Waititi is also an actor and recently returned to the role of Blackbeard in Our Flag Means Death. Waititi's character has sparked a romance with Stede Bonnet, who is played by Waititi's real-life friend, Rhys Darby. The duo have worked together on many projects over the years, so ComicBook.com wondered if Darby could be popping up in Star Wars in the future. While chatting about Our Flag Means Death's second season, we asked Darby if he's a Star Wars fan and if his relationship with Waititi has changed or grown since making Our Flag Means Death.

"I love Star Wars. Yeah, of course. Yeah. I mean, hello?" Darby shared.

"I think we're already close and we've always had each other's back," he added when asked about his friendship with Waititi. "We've been through this kind of big journey through the entertainment world and to America and stuff together in many ways, connected. But yeah, I think these roles have definitely shown us what we're capable of in a dramatic acting way that we haven't necessarily done before, and we've really enjoyed doing those things together. So it's advanced, not so much our friendship, but just our technique and our love of that acting craft. I think that's something that's really great to go through with a friend."

Our Flag Means Death Showrunner Talks Stede and Blackbeard's Romance:

The first season of Our Flag Means Death saw Stede and Blackbeard develop a romantic relationship. Showrunner David Jenkins previously opened up to Screen Rant about the development of that romance.

"They have a chemistry with each other that, when the first time they shot together, it was obvious. It was noticeable, the chemistry that they have. It was very easy. They both played kind of a heavy scene. I think one of your first scenes, [Rhys], was that one where he's in the bathtub. Immediately it was like, 'Oh, there's a shorthand there that's really lovely.' And you don't always get to see it, because Rhys and Taika are both used to coming into a scene, killing it by being absolutely hilarious, and then leaving," Jenkins explained.

"The thing that I noticed watching it was, and I know I said it to Taika and maybe Rhys, where it was like, 'You don't have to come into the scene and kill it, because you've got 10 episodes of scenes to do that. You don't have to do everything.' Because they're just amazing and they want to come in and destroy. I think, on this, where they're both the lead and we get to see so much of them, it's nice to see them, and to look at them, and watch them think. I haven't gotten the chance to do that as a fan. So, creating those moments was absolutely a joy."

Our Flag Means Death is now streaming on Max. Stay tuned for more from our interviews with the show's cast.

Disney Star Wars: Rebels Kanan Jarrus Legacy Lightsaber Hilt Drops Today https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/disney-new-star-wars-lightsaber-hilts-kanan-jarrus-november-30/ Thu, 30 Nov 2023 14:21:00 +0000 Sean Fallon de84b90c-8bb3-4678-9cf8-dc4717c21db1 star-wars-shopdisney-november-2.jpg

Disney unveiled several new Star Wars products for the month of November as part of Lucasfilm's Gift the Galaxy promotion for the 2023 holiday season, which will see new Star Wars products released each week until December 19th. Highlights of the lineup include The Stellan Gios Legacy Lightsaber Hilt, the Kanan Jarrus Legacy Lightsaber Hilt, and the Darth Vader Lightsaber hilt water bottle. Note that all of the merch will be available to order here at shopDisney on the launch dates / times listed below.

We'll start with the Galaxy's Edge Lightsaber hilts. The Kanan Jarrus aka Caleb Dume Lightsaber hilt is already available in the Parks but will be released online today, November 30th at 8am PT / 11am ET for Disney+ subscribers in special access. It's based on the weapon wielded by Freddie Prinze Jr.'s character from Star Wars: Rebels. It will also include light and sound effects, though the blade will be a separate purchase. We expect this hilt replica to retail for $169.99 but don't be surprised if it's more expensive. If you aren't a Disney+ subscriber, you can remedy that right here. Note that there are a lot of additional perks that Disney+ subscribers can take advantage of through January 2024.

See Star Wars Merch at ShopDisney

Unfortunately, the Stellan Gios Star Wars: The High Republic lightsaber hilt launched on November 17th and sold out lightning fast despite a $325 price tag. That release included crossguard blades and came bundled with a comic book and collectible wooden case, which explains the higher price.

As for the Darth Vader Lightsaber hilt water bottle, it will be released at shopDisney on December 4th (UPDATE: Delayed - stay tuned to this article for a new launch date). Again, we expect the drop to happen at 8am PT / 11am ET. Little is known about the product at this point, but shopDisney's mugs, tumblers, and cups can be hugely popular. The recent Nightmare Before Christmas Starbucks tumbler nearly started riots when it sold out in the blink of an eye on two occasions.

Again, all of the new Star Wars merch will be available to order here at shopDisney on their respective launch dates. You can check out more new Star Wars news and merch drops right here. Some recent headlines can be found below.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian star Katee Sackhoff is addressing the rumors of her character, Bo-Katan Kryze, having a romantic attachment to Din Djarin, aka "Mando." The two Mandalorian characters met in The Mandalorian Season 2, but were staunchly divided in their beliefs about Mandalorian culture. When Din won the coveted Darksaber in battle, it caused a competitive rivalry between her and Din. By the end of The Mandalorian Season 3, Din and Bo were firmly united as allies, leading the surviving Mandalorian people in a campaign to reclaim Mandalore from Moff Gideon and his Imperial remnant forces.

So, is romance simmering between Mando and Bo-Katan? According to Katee Sackhoff, the fascination with "shipping" characters is a standard part of fandoms, these days - best not to get too hung up on it:

"I think that there's probably just as much speculation in the shipping of The Armorer and Bo-Katan," Sackhoff joked to The Direct. "I think that anytime you put a woman and a man on screen together, it's bound to happen. I think that that's just one of those things, that speculation that people enjoy. But no, nothing more than just joking around between myself and Brendan Wayne at work, so no."

"Brendan Wayne" is one of the stunt doubles who plays Din Djarin/Mando in The Mandalorian, in lieu of actor Pedro Pascal, who mostly provides voiceover dialogue and only physically appears onscreen for key scenes. The Mandalorian Season 3 outtakes included a playful moment during a tense scene on a boat, broken up by Sackhoff and Wayne (the latter dressed as Mando) sharing an unscripted faux kiss through Mando's helmet:

"They is definitely an outtake where Brendan Wayne grabbed my face and kissed me through the Mando helmet," Sackhoff explained. "It was quite funny. Brendan Wayne is one of the men that wear the suit. And it was really fun."

That kiss gag led to speculation that there were actual versions of the boat scene where Bo-Katan and Mando did in fact kiss. The two characters are having a heart-to-heart conversation in the scene, prior to a major battle with Gideon. In some other TV shows or films, it would've been the sort of moment where two characters with romantic tension between them finally share a charged kiss. However, Katee Sackhoff makes it clear that The Mandalorian isn't that kind of show, and there are no deleted scenes hiding the romantic angle:

"There were no scenes that I remember being cut, and if they were cut, there probably is a good reason for it," Sackhoff said. "I know that sometimes some scenes get shortened, and you know, and that's probably [because of] runtime."

The Mandalorian Season 4 will arguably find Bo-Katan in her strongest era of leadership on Mandalore, while Din Djarin presumably gets back to his old ways of being a bounty hunter. Could romance be in their future? Doesn't seem like that is the way - but you never do know...

Star Wars: The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+.

Star Wars The Vintage Collection Phase II Clone Trooper 4-Pack Is Up For Pre-Order https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-vintage-collection-phase-ii-clone-trooper-4-pack-is-up-for-pre-order/ Wed, 29 Nov 2023 18:42:00 +0000 Sean Fallon 00d058bc-e45a-4f63-bd10-4e87d6341eb2 star-wars-the-vintage-collection-phase-ii-clone-trooper-4-pack-1.jpg

You can build up your Star Wars The Vintage Collection trooper army in a big way thanks to this new 4-pack, which is inspired by the Disney+ series Star Wars: Ahsoka. The set features unique helmet and suit deco on all four figures and includes an Ahsoka Loyalist Trooper and a 501st Legion Trooper.

The set was promoted as a Hasbro Pulse and shopDisney exclusive, but it's available to pre-order here at Entertainment Earth for $54.99 at the time of writing. Ordering it at EE would be beneficial in this case because shopDisney won't be getting it until a later date and you can skip the Pulse Premium membership that Hasbro is locking this item behind. Just keep in mind that free US shipping at EE is triggered on orders $79+ using the code WINTER79 at checkout (you won't be charged until it ships in March). If it ends up being a mistake on EE's part, you'll be able to grab it here at shopDisney in the near future. UPDATE: EE has confirmed that it's not an error.

"By the end of the Clone Wars, nearly all clones had switched to improved armor, including variant forms used for troopers in specialized roles. A 501st clone trooper division pledged their loyalty to Ahsoka Tano with repainted helmets. Fans can celebrate the legacy of STAR WARS, the action-and-adventure-packed space saga from a galaxy far, far away, with this premium 3.75-inch scale STAR WARS: THE VINTAGE COLLECTION PHASE II CLONE TROOPER 4-PACK inspired by the STAR WARS: AHSOKA live-action series. These figures feature premium detail and design across product and packaging inspired by the original Kenner line, as well as the entertainment-inspired collector grade deco. Includes 4 figures and 6 entertainment-inspired accessories."

What Is Star Wars: Ahsoka About?

Fan-favorite Star Wars hero Ahsoka Tano returns in the brand new series on Disney+. Rosario Dawson stars in Star Wars: Ahsoka, premiering in August on the streamer. The series picks up after the events of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, in which we saw the former Jedi searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and helping Luke Skywalker train Grogu. Ahsoka will be joined on her new mission alongside longtime allies Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) as they attempt to track down Thrawn, who was last seen disappearing to the far reaches of space after a confrontation with Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). Star Wars: Ahsoka is the latest live-action series from Lucasfilm's creative duo of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

Will Ahsoka Get a Season 2?

Deadline reported that "Ahsoka Season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, though nothing is locked yet." Considering Ahsoka's ties with The Mandalorian and showrunner Dave Filoni's future film plans, it's pretty likely we'll be seeing the Ahsoka characters again. Before the SAG strike, ComicBook.com had the chance to chat with Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka) while she was promoting her new film, Haunted Mansion, and we asked if she knew anything about Filoni's film and whether or not she would be in it.

Stay tuned for more updates about Ahsoka.

Star Wars: Rosario Dawson Shares New Ahsoka BTS Images featuring Hayden Christensen https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-rosario-dawson-ahsoka-hayden-christensen-bts-images/ Wed, 29 Nov 2023 16:44:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 3a989595-a5c6-4924-8035-00b595b356c0

Rosario Dawson and Hayden Christensen share some heartwarming moments together in new behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Ahsoka. The last Star Wars series to air on Disney+ was Ahsoka, which saw Dawson portraying the titular character, and Christensen reprising his iconic role as Ahsoka's former Jedi Master, Anakin Skywalker. Their time together on screen was one of the many highlights from Ahsoka, since the only times Star Wars fans have seen them together is in animated series like Star Wars: Clone Wars. Now, a new set of images looks at the fun Dawson and Christensen had together while filming the Star Wars series.

"Sweet Universe-Shaking dreams ... @ahsokaofficial @vanityfair @starwars @disneyplus @disney #TanoTuesday," Rosario Dawson wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday. The first image in Dawson's post has her and Hayden Christensen in a warm embrace, both actors smiling. There are many more images to be found, including another of Dawson and Christensen, the duo in front of a green screen with Star Wars CCO Dave Filoni, Dawson's Ahsoka in a Jedi fighting pose wielding her two lightsabers, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, and the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll.

What is the Star Wars future for Ray Stevenson's Baylan Skoll?

Ray Stevenson played Baylan Skoll in Ahsoka, but the actor died back in May at the age of 58. Naturally, this has fans wondering what Lucasfilm will do with his role. The man of mystery had fans buzzing by the end of Ahsoka, with the fallen Jedi pursuing his own path on the wasteland planet Peridea -- one guided by the Mortis gods. As for whether the role of Baylan Skoll will be recast, newly minted Lucasfilm Chief Content Officer Dave Filoni gave an update on that front.

"We're in a wait-and-see pattern at this point. But I'm glad the conversation is about Ray and how great he was.... I used to have mini debates with him and say, 'Ray, you're the villain here.' And he'd be like, 'I don't think so.' I was like, 'I know you don't think so, but you are. I love that you're playing it like you're not.' Which is exactly the way Baylan thinks," Filoni said, adding the late actor "would've been over the moon" to see fans' reception of his imposing and complicated character.

"The big regret here is that he didn't get to experience that," Filoni said. "I'm glad he was at Star Wars
Celebration with us, that he got to see the trailer and get a taste of that from the fans. And they've been nothing but wonderful about Ray and the character."

All episodes of Star Wars: Ahsoka season 1 are now available to stream on Disney+.

Star Wars Black Series Artillery Stormtrooper Electronic Helmet Gets a 30% Off Holiday Deal https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/black-series-artillery-stormtrooper-electronic-helmet-amazon-deal/ Wed, 29 Nov 2023 15:48:00 +0000 Sean Fallon 986139dc-e853-426d-b07a-d526aa502c1a star-wars-the-black-series-artillery-stormtrooper-premium-helmet-5.jpg

Hasbro's The Black Series Artillery Stormtrooper Premium Electronic Helmet is inspired by the design that appears in the Star Wars: The Mandalorian TV series on Disney+. It's fully wearable with an adjustable fit, and it features an electronic voice changer that distorts the wearer's voice to sound like an Artillery Stormtrooper. If you want to add it to your collection or grab one as a gift for a Star Wars fan, now would be a great time.

The helmet launched in May of 2022 priced at $131.99. The retail price came down to $99.99 since then, but you can grab it today for only $69.99 here on Amazon (30% off) as a holiday deal. That's an all-time low.

Will The Mandalorian End With Season 4?

Currently, it's unclear when Lucasfilm and Disney+ plan to end The Mandalorian, but it sounds like the show might live beyond the already-confirmed fourth season. The Inside Total Film podcast (via Games Radar) had a chat with showrunner Jon Favreau earlier this year, and he was asked if he has an ending in mind for the series and he confirmed he doesn't have a finale planned. However, it was announced during Star Wars Celebration that Dave Filoni is set to helm a movie that will follow "the escalating war between the imperials and the fledging New Republic" that culminates the Disney+ shows. It is described as a cinematic event set during The Mandalorian timeline.

"No, I don't," Favreau recently revealed when asked if he has an ending for The Mandalorian in mind. "I think the beauty of this is that it's a middle chapter of a much larger story. And though we'll have resolution over time with these characters, I think that how these characters fit into the larger scope and scale, but it's not like there's a finale that we're building to that I have in mind. Quite the contrary, I love for these stories to go on and on. And so these characters potentially could be with us for a while, and I really love telling stories in their voice, and I love the way the adventures unfold and I'm looking forward to doing much more."

Star Wars Rebels Star Reveals the Legends Character They Want to Bring to Live-Action https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-legends-vanessa-marshall-mara-jade-live-action/ Mon, 27 Nov 2023 18:35:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 2531e46a-dc19-479d-b66e-ec49af3e773f

Actor Vanessa Marshall won over Star Wars fans thanks to voicing the hot-shot pilot Hera Syndulla in Star Wars Rebels, though when that character was brought to life in Star Wars: Ahsoka, Mary Elizabeth Winstead took on the role. Luckily for fans, Marshall wasn't only interested in replicating her animated role, as she recently confirmed how she would be interested in playing Mara Jade Skywalker in a live-action project, a fan-favorite character that is now part of the Legends realm of the galaxy far, far away. While Mara Jade has yet to be reintroduced into the official Star Wars canon since Lucasfilm was purchased by The Walt Disney Company, we can't rule out a possible return, given her passionate following.

"I would love to play Mara Jade. Can you call Dave Filoni and just let him know that I'd love to play Mara Jade?" Marshall shared at Fan Expo San Francisco, per Collider. "I think we would all just like to be in live-action in some way. We haven't had the opportunity to do it yet. But my background is in live-action."

After the conclusion of the original trilogy of Star Wars films, the adventures continued in the galaxy far, far away courtesy of various comic books and novels, which were referred to as the Star Wars Expanded Universe. When Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney, the studio clarified the official vs. non-canonical stories, noting that only the six live-action movies and Star Wars: The Clone Wars were part of the official canon, while all other stories became part of the Legends corner of lore. Going forward, all new stories were considered part of the official canon, which included novels, comics, and video games.

Mara Jade first appeared in the Timothy Zahn novel Heir to the Empire, which also explored the nefarious Grand Admiral Thrawn. While the character first appears as a threat, she would go on to marry Luke Skywalker and become the mother of their child, Ben Skywalker.

Despite initially being relegated to the Legends realm of Star Wars, Thrawn entered the official canon with Star Wars Rebels, before making his live-action debut in Star Wars: Ahsoka. While Mara Jade hasn't yet been reintroduced into the official canon, the Thrawn precedent has fans hoping that Mara Jade could follow suit.

Stay tuned for updates on the possible future of Mara Jade.

Star Wars: Taika Waititi Compares His Movie to Original Trilogy Sequels https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-taika-waititi-compares-his-movie-to-original-trilogy-sequels/ Sun, 26 Nov 2023 02:42:00 +0000 Spencer Perry 54e9b4e5-0810-4ec0-8a95-3b607ef62054

Even tough Taika Waititi appears to be done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having confirmed he's not attached to a Thor 5, the filmmaker is still set to make a new movie in the Star Wars franchise. During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where he was promoting his new movie Next Goal Wins, Waititi was asked about his Star Wars project and once again confirmed that development is moving along slow and steady. The Academy Award winner also noted that he's aiming for something similar in nature to some of the original trilogy movies.

"I've been developing [the Star Wars film] for a few years, but I think with any film, but that one in particular, it's something I'd really like to get right so I don't want to rush it," Waititi said. "It's going to bubble along on the side...I wanna capture that joy and entertainment of those early ones like The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and all those ones, so I'm trying to figure that out. It'll happen."

There could be a tiny hint of irony to be found in Waititi insisting "It'll happen," when the filmmaker previously teased that he wasn't interested in directing a Star Wars movie for a similar reason. Back in 2017 when a fan asked if he would be interested in taking on directing duties for Star Wars, Waititi replied, "Lolz, I like to complete my films...I'd be fired within a week." This comment came after Phil Lord and Chris Miller had been fired from directing Solo: A Star Wars Story and Colin Trevorrow departed from Episode IX.

What's the next Star Wars movie?

As has been the case for Star Wars for a few years now, the future of Star Wars is mostly on Disney+. The success of The Mandalorian TV series has made way for a number of Star Wars TV Shows, but that doesn't mean Star Wars isn't still making plans for the big screen. Though an announced Rogue Squadron movie was seemingly shelved by Lucasfilm, they did announce three new Star Wars movies at Star Wars Celebration earlier this year.

The three new Star Wars movies will all take place in totally different eras of the Star Wars timeline, some separated by thousands of years. Coincidentally, Logan director James Mangold was one of the filmmakers announced to be directing a new Star Wars movie, with Lucasfilm confirming that his movie "will go back to the dawn of the Jedi;" Mangold himself previously compared it to a biblical epic.

Another new Star Wars movie that was announced was a film from Dave Filoni, described as focusing on the New Republic era of the timeline and acting as a "close out the interconnected stories told in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series." Finally, Lucasfilm will return to the post-Episode IX point in the timeline with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy set to direct a movie about Daisy Ridley's Rey starting the new Jedi Order.

Star Wars: Ahsoka Creator Praises Hayden Christensen's Lightsaber Skills https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-ahsoka-hayden-christensen-anakin-lightsaber-skills/ Sat, 25 Nov 2023 15:05:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 33dacd1e-fe43-42a5-9131-55a1b2134db4

Star Wars: Ashoka creator Dave Filoni had some high praise for Hayden Christensen after seeing those lightsaber skills up-close. Entertainment Weekly spoke to the new Lucasfilm CCO about getting to bring Anakin Skywalker back for the Disney+ series. Obi-Wan has opened the floodgates and fans are still getting used to seeing the beloved actor back in Star Wars projects. Filoni says that Christensen hasn't lost his edge when it comes to lightsaber duels. One thing that a lot of viewers really liked from Ahsoka was how many battles ended up happening after the series got rolling. Having Anakin standing across from Rosario Dawson's heroine was a welcome addition to the Star Wars canon for a lot of people. Check out what the helmer had to say about the "Chosen One" down below.

"His lightsaber skills are just insane," Filoni said in disbelief. "I mean, he is the Chosen One. There is no doubt." The producer would continue. "It was kind of amazing to have somebody who had this experience, too, who would know the things I was talking about related to Anakin and how George saw him," Filoni offered later in the interview. "We really understood each other and the language of it.

Was That The "Real" Anakin In Ahsoka?

ahsoka-episode-5-anakin-lightsaber-duel.jpg
(Photo: Lucasfilm)

During the middle of Ahsoka and throughout, fans couldn't help but debate whether or not the version of Anakin Skywalker they were seeing was "real." In effect, was Hayden Christensen's cameo his Force Ghost or a construction of Ahsoka's mind. To add some confusion to the mix, it does seem like the heroine made a trip to the World Between Worlds, so there's a bit of a nod to some time shenanigans there as well. In a Vanity Fair piece this week, Christensen himself stepped up to address those scenes. He feels like it would be better left to interpretation this time around.

"That's the beauty of how the episode is constructed, in my opinion," Christensen said when asked about the exciting moment. "Inevitably, the audience has to question what it is they're watching. Is this really the World Between Worlds? What is the World Between Worlds? Is this actually the spirit of Anakin Skywalker, or is this all in Ahsoka's subconscious and we're just going down the yellow brick road as she's drowning and fighting for her life? I think that the episode provides a few really good clues, but it doesn't spell it out for you."

Star Wars Black Friday Sale Makes 14 Games Only $1.36 Apiece https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-games-sale-black-friday/ Thu, 23 Nov 2023 22:15:00 +0000 Logan Moore c9f28352-e1b1-4e3a-ae84-8014d89f785c

A new sale has made an expansive Star Wars video game bundle discounted to a level that is virtually never seen. At this point in time, there are numerous Black Friday deals happening. While many of these sales are transpiring at physical retailers, digitial storefronts are also getting in on the action as well. Now, when it comes to one major PC platform, a new offer has come about in relation to Star Wars that is almost too good to pass up.

Over on Fanatical, the platform is selling a group of 14 Star Wars games as a bundle for 81% off of its normal price. Typically, this collection retails for $99.99, but has now been discounted to only $18.99. With this in mind, each game included here is priced at only about $1.36 apiece, which is staggering, to say the least. This deal is even better when accounting for the fact that this collection contains some of the most acclaimed and popular Star Wars video games that have come about.

Here's every single Star Wars game that is included with this collection that you can obtain:

  • Star Wars Jedi Knight - Jedi Outcast II
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight - Dark Forces II
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight - Mysteries of the Sith
  • Star Wars: Republic Commando
  • Star Wars: Starfighter
  • Star Wars The Clone Wars - Republic Heroes
  • Star Wars - The Force Unleashed Ultimate Edition
  • Star Wars - The Force Unleashed II
  • Star Wars - Dark Forces
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords
  • Star Wars: Empire at War - Gold Pack
  • Star Wars: Battlefront II

Per usual with sales of this type, there are two pretty major caveats. For starters, all of the Star Wars titles included here are only compatible with PC via Steam. That means if you want to get any of these games for consoles, you won't be able to. Additionally, this sale is one that isn't lasting long in the slightest. In fact, it's an offer that Fanatical is only having live for a single 24-hour period and will expire on the morning of November 24. Because of this, you'll have to act quickly if you want to get this bundle for yourself.

Are you going to look to pick up this Star Wars Collection on Fanatical while it's up for grabs? Or do you already own many of these games as it is? Let me know either down in the comments or shoot me a message on social media at @MooreMan12.

The 75318 LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian The Child model set was released back in 2020 at the peak of Baby Yoda mania. It clocks in at 1073 pieces (measures 7.5" high, 8.5" wide and 5" deep), and features a posable head, ears and mouth. It even comes with an information sign and minifigure to complete your display. Of course, we now know this cute little guy as Grogu, and you can bring him home for only $45 (50% off) thanks to a Black Friday 2023 deal that you can score here on Amazon and here at Walmart while it lasts. Additional images are available in the gallery below.

Speaking of Black Friday deals on LEGO sets inspired by cute Star Wars characters, the BD-1 (75335) set from the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game is also priced at an all-time low. It includes 1062 pieces along with features like posable joints, a head that can be titled back, forward, and sideways, translucent elements on the back of the head that indicate BD-1's mood, a compartment for stim canister elements, and an information sign for display that includes a mini BD-1 figure. At the time of writing, you can grab one here on Amazon for $69.99, which is 31% off list.

Star Wars Actress Daisy Ridley Says New Movie Isn't What She Expected https://comicbook.com/movies/news/star-wars-daisy-ridley-new-movie-tease-not-what-you-expect/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 22:40:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt f53a4c5e-21f2-4e60-a3e0-094d5d32664b

Little is known about the future of the Star Wars franchise outside of its biggest bullet points. One of those bullet points is a film featuring the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey, set sometime after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as she rebuilds the Jedi Order. The film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is set some 15 years of the fall of the First Order and Sith, and it's a storyline that's getting Ridley excited.

"I will tell you, Steve, when I saw you in Park City, I had not been approached. I was asked some, not by you, but I was asked something when I was there and strangely, people were asking me stuff and I was like, 'No, I'm not doing another one.' Then it all happened after I came back," Ridley said in a new chat with Collider.

That's when she added her return, and what's she found out about the film so far, isn't what she expected. That's a prospect that excites her, the actor added.

"It was such a nice reception. I was shitting myself before I went on stage, because no one knew I was going to that. No one knew I was going to Celebration, bar like Kathy [Kennedy] and there were a couple of people. I was so nervous," the Rise of Skywalker alumnus continued. "It was such a wonderful reception. I'm very excited. The story is really cool. I'm waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don't have any other updates. It's not what I expected, but I'm very excited."

For now, Ridley says the storyline is for one film and not a trilogy or another version of extended storytelling.

"I know the storyline for one film. That's not to say that that's all it is, but that's what I was told about. And I imagine it will be the next film, I think," the actor concluded. "I mean, again, I don't know, post strikes and everything, how quickly everything will start up again. But yes, so far, I know the story of one film and I think people will be very excited."

Ridley's next Star Wars film has yet to set a release date.

Classic Star Wars Game Gets Surprise Update 17 Years After Release https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-game-empire-at-war-update/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 22:06:00 +0000 Logan Moore ab3a4799-1315-4e51-ad95-96492391573b

A Star Wars video game that launched all the way back in 2006 just received a surprising new update. In the early 2000s, there were a variety of great Star Wars games that came about. Some of these included Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and Star Wars: Republic Commando, simply to name a few. While none of these games in question were the ones that received this update, the patch has instead rolled out for a title synonymous with the PC platform.

As of this week, a new patch for the real-time strategy game Star Wars: Empire at War was pushed out on PC. Following its launch in 2006, Empire at War eventually received a new expansion titled Forces of Corruption later in that same year. Since that time, the game's multiplayer functionality eventually went live again on Steam in 2017 after previously having been shut off. As for this week's update, though, it came about without any warning and has fixed a couple of lingering bugs that players have found.

You can find the full patch notes for this new Star Wars: Empire at War update here:

  • Both games have been converted from 32-bit to 64-bit applications, which will solve many out-of-memory bugs and crashes that players were experiencing.
  • Multiplayer out-of-sync issues have been addressed, which should improve stability.
  • There have been numerous gameplay fixes addressing balance and incorrect unit behavior.

Moving forward, it's hard to know if Star Wars: Empire at War will continue to receive additional patches of this type. Given that the game is no longer actively being worked on, this could very well be the final update that the game ever sees. That being said, there has been at least one small update that has rolled out annually for Empire at War in 2021, 2022, and now 2023. With this in mind, it perhaps wouldn't be a shock to see another small patch drop at some point in 2024.

Are you surprised to see that Empire at War is still being supported so long after its launch? And is this a Star Wars game that you have played for yourself previously? Be sure to let me know either down in the comments section or hit me up on social media at @MooreMan12.

Star Wars CCO Dave Filoni on Baylan Skoll's Future After Ray Stevenson's Death https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-cco-dave-filoni-baylan-skoll-future-ray-stevenson-death-ahsoka/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 19:55:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 5ef73619-530a-44fe-93ba-17caf78706df

[Spoiler alert for Star Wars: Ahsoka.] "There are so few Jedi left," Baylan Skoll (the late Ray Stevenson) told his apprentice Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) on Ahsoka. And after "The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord" season finale ended with the fallen Jedi-turned-mercenary pursuing his own path on the wasteland planet Peridea -- one guided by the Mortis gods -- there is one less Jedi in the galaxy. Skoll told Shin to take her place in the coming Empire under the returned Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and then answered the great power calling to him: statues of The Ones.

"He's a person that survived the Clone Wars, that was trained in the waxing-waning days of the Jedi Knights, just like Anakin," Ahsoka series creator and recently promoted Lucasfilm Chief Content Officer Dave Filoni told Vanity Fair of the original character. "He saw his order, his way of life fall apart. And he's basically deemed it a failure: That way did not work. That it's not something worth resurrecting. Which is why he tells Shin, 'I didn't teach you to be a Jedi. I taught you to be something more.'"

As Skoll told Shin, he missed the idea of the Jedi Order -- but "not the truth, not the weakness." While standing over what was once the great Witch Kingdom of the Dathmiri, Skoll felt the pull of the Mortis gods -- the Father, the Son, and the Daughter -- and then parted ways with his apprentice.

"He's tried to take these teachings that he learned as a young person and create his own way of being. And he's looked at the cycle of things and said, 'Enough with this. If I have this power, I should wield it. I should be the one making decisions,' which a lot of people with power decide that's the way to go," Filoni explained. "He's also very certain that what he's doing now is the right thing."

Stevenson died in May at the age of 58, leaving the fate of his Star Wars character up in the air. Whether the role is recast or Skoll's story continues in the interconnected Star Wars comic books, novels, or animated series remains to be seen, but Filoni notes that "obviously, there's a story there."

"I'm glad he was at Star Wars Celebration with us, that he got to see the trailer and get a taste of that from the fans. And they've been nothing but wonderful about Ray and the character."

All episodes of Star Wars: Ahsoka season 1 are now available to stream on Disney+.

Star Wars: Hayden Christensen Weighs in on One of Ahsoka's Biggest Debates https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-hayden-christensen-anakin-ahsoka-return-debates/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 19:52:00 +0000 Aaron Perine e6e7f4ee-75e3-4cc3-8f5f-12be20c05a78

Star Wars: Ahsoka star Hayden Christensen addressed one of the series' biggest questions. On the heels of the massive announcement about Dave Filoni's promotion at Lucasfilm, the actor talked about whether or not his character was "real" in the recent Disney+ episodes. It seems pretty clear that there were some World Between Worlds shenanigans going on with Ahsoka. But, does that mean that Rosario Dawson's heroine was really reunited with her mentor on that bridge? In the opinion of the Anakin Skywalker actor, probably not. But, he told Vanity Fair that he's willing to leave it up to interpretation without delivering a conclusive answer. Neither Christensen or Filoni will answer up about the series' most hyped sequence. Seeing Ahsoka standing in front of her master in live-action is something that a lot of Star Wars fans had been angling for over the last decade.

"That's the beauty of how the episode is constructed, in my opinion," Christensen explained.

How Did Anakin Make His Return?

(Photo: Lucasfilm)

The choice to bring Hayden Christensen back into the fold could have been controversial. But, Star Wars fans have rushed to embrace the actor with open arms. Clearly, the response has touched Christensen who though a return impossible at an earlier point in his career. Talking to IGN, director Peter Ramsey explained how the episode that brought Anakin back unfolded. It seems like Dave Filoni absolutely threw him a fastball that he proceeded to hit out of the park.

"I told Dave [Filoni], 'man, you gave me a foolproof episode,'" Ramsey recalled. "I so lucked out because I got the one where all these different strands of the story kind of converge and it blows up. You'd have to really mess up in order for it not to be compelling in the end."

Ramsey would also single out Christensen, calling the star as happy as anybody else to embrace the return of one of Star Wars' biggest characters."He's a really sweet, low-key guy," Ramsey added. "He was pretty happy about being there after all this time. It had a lot of meaning for him."

"We just talked about what it's like for him to be seeing Ahsoka after all this time, that it's a reunion for them," Ramsey mused. "And I just told him, 'it's like you haven't seen your daughter in two years. She'd gone off to college and you're seeing her again and she's like a different person but still your daughter.'"

What Happened In Ahsoka?

star-wars-ahsoka-season-2.jpg
(Photo: Disney+)

"Fan-favorite Star Wars hero Ahsoka Tano returns in the brand new series on Disney+. Rosario Dawson stars in Star Wars: Ahsoka, which premiered on August 22nd on the streamer. The series picks up after the events of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, in which we saw the former Jedi searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and helping Luke Skywalker train Grogu."

"Ahsoka will be joined on her new mission alongside longtime allies Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) as they attempt to track down Thrawn, who was last seen disappearing to the far reaches of space after a confrontation with Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). Star Wars: Ahsoka is the latest live-action series from Lucasfilm's creative duo of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni."

Was that the real Anakin? Do you love the idea of more Ahsoka? Let us know in the comments!

Star Wars: Ahsoka Star Hopeful for Season 2 https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-ahsoka-season-2-plans-reaction-hopes-sabine-wren-natasha-liu-bordizzo/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 19:35:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 3c83655e-fc0b-40cd-90d3-c73f03c6498c

This year's writers' and actors' strikes slowed the development on a number of projects in Hollywood, and while Lucasfilm's Star Wars: Ahsoka is one of the projects that saw complications, star Natasha Liu Bordizzo is hopeful that the debut season was only the beginning of her development on the live-action Sabine Wren. While this batch of episodes saw Rosario Dawson's titular Ahsoka start to train Sabine in the ways of the Force, Bordizzo would like to see her character evolve even further in regards to that mystical connection. While a Season 2 hasn't officially been announced, Bordizzo is only one member of Ahsoka's production who is hopeful for more episodes.

"The Force, and Sabine trying to achieve use of the Force, was such a metaphor for me of trying to achieve that groundedness in real life. It just made me laugh," Bordizzo recalled to Vanity Fair of her character replicating her own experiences. "A lot of the time I would read the episodes and be like, 'I can relate to that.' Obviously, I'm not trying to achieve the Force, but it's all related."

She continued, "Hopefully that can evolve ... It didn't have enough time to evolve that much in Season 1, because as you're learning about these characters, they're also going through crazy upheaval and war and problems. So we'll see where that goes."

Part of what took audiences by surprise about this development in the relationship between Ahsoka and Sabine is that, in Star War Rebels, there wasn't much evidence that Sabine had any connection to the Force whatsoever. By the time we reunited with the characters in the Ahsoka premiere, it was clear that their relationship to one another had deteriorated, though their reunion helped signify that, in the galaxy far, far away, it was entirely possible to develop and hone that connection with the Force even if you weren't part of a famous lineage.

Between reports, rumors, and confirmed projects, the only definitive adventure on the horizon that is set to unfold during the time of The New Republic is a movie that is being developed by Dave Filoni, which is confirmed to bring together narrative threads from Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett. Due to the impact of the strikes, it's unclear if a Season 2 could be expected or if elements of a planned Season 2 could be integrated into Filoni's movie, but with no timeline given for that movie, we could still get more seasons of these various TV shows before that film comes to fruition.

Stay tuned for updates on the future of the Star Wars franchise.

Star Wars: Dave Filoni Reveals His Major Promotion at Lucasfilm https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-dave-filoni-promotion-lucasfilm-confirmed-chief-creative-officer/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 18:35:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh e45c0ed8-74d1-4398-a3cd-7420230a609b

Thanks to his work on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, fans have appreciated Dave Filoni's contributions to the galaxy far, far away for more than a decade, as the filmmaker has become a more and more prominent figure at Lucasfilm, with Filoni himself confirming he is now the chief creative officer at the studio. While Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has long expressed her support of Filoni and how she would consult with him on various projects, Filoni's role will now see him being involved with Star Wars projects much closer to their inception as opposed to offering his input as more substantial projects.

"Now I'm what's called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm," Filoni revealed to Vanity Fair. "In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways."

He continued, "In this new role, it's opened up to basically everything that's going on ... When we're planning the future of what we're doing now, I'm involved at the inception phase."

Kennedy still serves as the president of the studio, while this promotion will see Filoni collaborating more closely not only with Kennedy, but also with Carrie Beck, who is head of development at the studio.

"I'm not telling people what to do," Filoni expressed. "But I do feel I'm trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I need to be a help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost."

Filoni worked closely with Star Wars creator George Lucas while developing The Clone Wars, and when Lucas sold his studio to The Walt Disney Company in 2012, this resulted in the unexpected end of the animated series. Luckily, Filoni continued working with the studio on Rebels, which ultimately led to him pivoting to the world of live-action directing, as well as a revival of The Clone Wars, the development of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and the development of Star Wars: Ahsoka. Earlier this year, it was announced that Filoni would direct a film set during The New Republic, which would bring together narrative threads from The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett.

The filmmaker confirmed that his new position won't impact the projects he's more directly attached to, such as his movie or a potential Season 2 of Ahsoka.

"To truly help filmmakers, it was really important for me to experience it firsthand," Filoni detailed. "I can also lend a perspective on the challenges that telling these stories will present. I feel more capable of actually being helpful outside of just saying, 'Well, Jedi are like this, and Sith are like this...'"

Stay tuned for updates on the future of the Star Wars franchise.

LEGO Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order BD-1 Set Gets a Huge Black Friday Deal https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/lego-star-wars-jedi-fallen-order-bd-1-set-deal-amazon-black-friday/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 16:55:00 +0000 Sean Fallon c1e88fca-0fd6-4d3f-9610-ed171dceac6e lego-star-wars-jedi-fallen-order-bd-1.jpg

The LEGO BD-1 (75335) set inspired by the BD-1 droid from the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game, and packs a lot of cuteness into its 1062 pieces. It also has features like posable joints, a head that can be titled back, forward, and sideways, translucent elements on the back of the head that indicate BD-1's mood, a compartment for stim canister elements, and an information sign for display that includes a mini BD-1 figure.

At the time of writing, the LEGO Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order BD-1 (75335) Set are live here on Amazon now for $69.99, which is 31% off list and an all-time low.

On a related note, the sequel to Star War Jedi: Fallen Order launched in April and is available to play on the PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. Additional details about the game can be found below.

"Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a strong sequel that improves on nearly every core element seen in Fallen Order," reads a snippet of our review of the game. "Even in spite of some pacing troubles with its story, Cal Kestis is an even more compelling protagonist this time around and continues to be one of the best new Star Wars characters that has come about in the Disney era. With a little more polish and some trimmed fat, Jedi: Survivor could have been a home run, but Respawn still has a bit more room for growth in a third installment for this potential trilogy." Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available worldwide via PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. You can keep up with the latest news about the game right here.

Will There Be a Star Wars Jedi 3?

It has already been confirmed by Cal Kesits actor Cameron Monaghan that Respawn is working on a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The director of the first two games, Stig Asmussen, stated he conceived of the series as a trilogy so it's likely the next game would be the last one. Sadly, Asmussen has departed from Respawn and it's unclear how much that will change the vision for the next game.

Star Wars Teases Luke Being Hunted by Padme's Handmaiden https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-vader-luke-skywalker-vs-padme-sabe-fcbd-preview/ Mon, 20 Nov 2023 22:56:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 76a8c785-333c-464d-ba59-a63a9cb5760c

Star Wars is teasing another pivotal event in the franchise canon: a showdown between Luke Skywalker and one of the dangerous extreme women who wear the face of mother, Padm? Amidala!

A preview for Free Comic Book Day 2024: Star Wars/Darth Vader #1 hints that Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics are keen on pulling new readers into the Star Wars Universe of the comic page. There have been stories building in both the main Star Wars comic series as well as the Darth Vader comic series over the last year, and few fans expected them to culminate like this in a FCBD release - but here we are!

The storyline for Darth Vader has explored what happened between Vader and Emperor Palpatine following the events of The Empire Strikes Back, and Vader's attempt to recruit Luke to his side, to overthrow the Emperor. Palpatine took that betrayal in stride, stripping Vader of all his cybernetic enhancements and forcing him to prove his worth as a Sith Lord all on his own.

A minor war between the Emperor and the Crimson Dawn syndicate (led by Lady Qi'ra) resulted in the entire Force being disrupted, with both Vader and Luke left with faulty connections to dark and light sides, respectively. Luke has had plenty to deal with while trying to re-establish his own connection - and a tour of the galaxy is about to make him collide with Sab?, the most militant and dogmatic member of th Padm?'s handmaidens.

Sab? has been a supporting character in Vader's comic series for the last year; her arc has see her discover the connection between Vader and Anakin Skywalker, and use it to try and exert some measure of control over the Sith Lord, by tapping into lingering feelings of love he felt. Of course, Vader has resisted the attempts to pull him out of the darkness and suffering of a Sith Lord - but in addition to learning he is really Anakin, Sab? was also shown a vision that let her know his son Luke is out in the galaxy...

Are there Rebel survivors stranded on Hoth? Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Lando Calrissian, and Chewbacca mount a dangerous rescue mission to Echo Base! Lightsabers! Blasters! Snowtroopers! All-out action amongst the wreckage of AT-AT walkers, Rebel airspeeders, and frozen weapons of mass destruction!

Darth Vader employs a surprise character from the past to help him find Luke Skywalker. But Sab?, former handmaided of Padm? Amidala, is also on a quest for the son of Vader. Having worked for him as an Imperial Commander, Sab? has enough resources to cause chaos for anyone who stands in her path. How will this affect the Dark Lord's plans to remove Palpatine from power?

Star Wars: Holiday Special Documentary Set for December Release https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-holiday-special-documentary-set-for-december-release/ Mon, 20 Nov 2023 17:30:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame e9aec2c0-c64c-4d2f-948a-0335eacece21

If you have ever wondered how a project as baffling as the Star Wars Holiday Special managed to not only get made, but see release during the heyday of the beloved franchise, your answers are coming. A group of indie filmmakers will release A Disturbance in the Force, a new, humorous documentary exploring the history of the Holiday Special, just in time to celebrate the season in 2023. The announcement slipped through the cracks this weekend, having been made on Friday, November 17 -- that's the Wookiee holiday Life Day (the holiday Chewbacca was rushing home to celebrate) for anyone keeping track at home.

September Club and Giant Pictures have announced that A Disturbance in the Force will come to DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital video on demand platforms on December 5. The acclaimed documentary made its debut at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival, and has some fun trying to separate fact from fiction in the histofy of the Star Wars Holiday Special, and place it in its context as part of a bygone era of 1970s event television.

From the filmmakers behind Napoleon Dynamite and Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made, A Disturbance in the Force looks at the moment Star Wars first became a cultural touchstone, and their first effort at an ill-advised spinoff.

Here's how Giant Pictures describes the movie:

In 1977, Star Wars became a cultural phenomenon that single-handedly revitalized a stagnant film industry, and forever changed how films were sold, made, and marketed. In 1978, filmmaker George Lucas was talked into cashing in on the Star Wars craze by producing a holiday variety TV special. What could possibly go wrong? ANSWER: Everything...

CBS aired the two-hour Star Wars Holiday Special during the week of Thanksgiving and it was watched by 13 million people. It never re-aired. While some fans of the franchise are aware of this dark secret, this bizarre two hours of television still remains relatively unknown among the general public. Simply put, the documentary will answer how and why the "Holiday Special" got made.

Produced by September Club with Giant Pictures handling digital and home entertainment distribution, A Disturbance in the Force can also be experienced in select screenings across the US, UK and Australia ahead of its digital and home entertainment launch on December 5 on Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and Vudu.

Popular Star Wars Game Made $1.99 in New Black Friday Sale https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-game-black-friday-sale/ Sat, 18 Nov 2023 18:33:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 3ffff8d3-b9fc-4445-83cc-360d93e84709

A popular Star Wars game that normally costs $39.99 is on sale for just $1.99 thanks to the new, huge PlayStation Store Black Friday sale. Unfortunately, if you're on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PC, or mobile this deal obviously does not pertain to you with it being via the PlayStation Store. Meanwhile, the game in question is a PS4 game with no native PS5 version, but it is playable on the PS5 via backward compatibility.

Between now and November 28, all PS4 and PS5 users can nab 2020's Star Wars Squadrons for just $1.99. Developed by EA-owned Motive Studio and published by EA, the space combat game debuted back on October 2, 2020 to a 79 on Metacritic. How well it complimented this in the commercial market, we don't know, but seemingly not well enough for a sequel. The studio, Motive Studio, has since released the Dead Space remake this year and is working on an Iron Man game. Whatever the case, a majority of those who played it, enjoyed, or at least that's what various user reviews across the Internet suggest.

"Master the art of starfighter combat in the authentic piloting experience Star Wars: Squadrons," reads an official blurb about the game. "Buckle up and feel the adrenaline of first-person, multiplayer space dogfights alongside your squadron. Pilots who enlist will step into the cockpits of starfighters from both the New Republic and Imperial fleets and fight in strategic 5v5 space battles. Modify your starfighter, and adjust the composition of your squadron to suit varying playstyles and crush the opposition. Pilots will triumph as a team and complete tactical objectives across known and never-before-seen battlefields, including the gas giant of Yavin Prime and the shattered moon of Galitan. Take control of starfighters such as the X-wing and TIE fighter. Customize loadouts and cosmetics. Divert power between weapons, shields, and engines while immersing yourself in the cockpit. In addition, players will have the option to play the entirety of the game in virtual reality (VR)!"

For what it is worth, this is the cheapest we've ever seen a new digital copy game go for and it's by far the cheapest we've seen it on the PlayStation Store. And it's unlikely to ever be cheaper than this, so if you're interested, now is a good time to pull the trigger.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Report Says Game Is "Not Being Worked On" https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-knights-of-the-old-republic-kotor-remake-not-being-worked-on/ Fri, 17 Nov 2023 22:57:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon e833af59-f7c2-4a0b-bbd2-0989a80df117

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic fans have long been worried about the state of the game's remake from Saber Interactive and Embracer following some troubling updates, and this week, a new report has emerged that'll do little to assuage those concerns. According to Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb's Game Mess Mornings, the game currently isn't being worked on by any studio at all. That latest unofficial update combined with previous incidents have led people to believe that the game might be dead in the water, but Embracer isn't saying one way or the other and is instead avoiding talking about the game at all.

Grubb talked about the Knights of the Old Republic remake this week during the latest episode of Game Mess Mornings. He spoke about it around the 57:40 point in the video below while first rehashing some of the history of the remake which involved it getting shifted from developer Aspyr Media, a studio that's handled Star Wars games in the past, to Saber Interactive, the company that owns Aspyr itself.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake in Trouble?

According to Grubb, there's no work being done on the game right now. Not at Aspyr, nor at Saber Interactive, nor at any other studio right now.

"This game is not being worked on right now. Just, full stop. This game is not being worked on in any way at any studio."

Grubb expanded on his comments later in the discussion by speculating that there were two entities that could potentially step in and help with the game: Sony and Lucasfilm. Lucasfilm is naturally a candidate given that it's the production company responsible for Star Wars in the first place, and Sony because it had co-publishing rights on the game.

But for the latter, Grubb pointed out that it doesn't look like Sony is too keen on stepping in. Not long ago, one of the main concerns about the game dealt with the fact that PlayStation's trailer for the game was removed abruptly from its social channels. A statement from the company said that this was all "part of normal business," but that statement didn't do much to reassure people.

So, what does Embracer have to say about all of this? The topic of the Knights of the Old Republic remake actually came up very recently as part of Embracer's latest earnings call. During the Q&A portion of that meeting, Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors was asked about the status of the remake. He responded by saying that everything he'd say about the game would "become a headline" which, unsurprisingly, created headlines itself.

This Knights of the Old Republic remake situation is followed by additional Star Wars troubles after Aspyr was sued because of canceled content that would no longer be brought to the rerelease of Knights of the Old Republic 2.

Star Wars: Ming-Na Wen Addresses Fennec Shand's Next Appearance https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-ming-na-wen-addresses-fennec-shand-next-appearance-mandalorian/ Fri, 17 Nov 2023 20:45:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 903ba83a-c083-406e-aefb-360413d68bcf

Ming-Na Wen is known for an array of roles ranging from Mulan to Melinda May, but these days many know her best as Fennec Shand. Wen's character debuted in the first season of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and she went on to appear in Season 2 of the series as well as The Book of Boba Fett. However, she was entirely absent from the third season of The Mandalorian. Now, fans are wondering when she's going to show up again. ComicBook.com recently had the chance to chat with Wen about Pencils Vs. Pixels, a new documentary about animation that's narrated by Wen. During the interview, we asked the star if she knows when she will be seen in Star Wars again.

"No, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed," Wen said. "I keep sending out good energy. I miss being her. Now that the strike is over, I think it's going to be fun and accelerated to try to get every production back online. And I certainly pray and hope that Fennec comes back, but unfortunately, that is ... unless I cosplay myself," Wen joked.

"Well, I get a lot of fans asking if there could be a spinoff of just vetting. I'm like, why not? I don't know. Yeah, any reason to just do Star Wars again," Wen added.

Earlier this year, Wen recalled being disappointed that she wasn't in The Mandalorian's third season. However, she also made it clear that she trusts filmmakers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni and she understands why her bounty hunter wasn't involved in the recent episodes. The actor also expressed how her being such a fan of the franchise means that she wants to be involved in as many projects as possible.

What Is Pencils Vs Pixels About?

You can read the official description of Pencils Vs Pixels here: "Pencils Vs Pixels is a celebration of the unique magic of 2D hand-drawn animation and an exploration of how the Disney Renaissance of the late 1980s and early 1990s led to an animation boom that was quickly upended by the computer animation revolution that followed. Narrated by Ming-Na Wen, Pencils Vs Pixels features many of the legendary artists who brought these now-classic films to life as they guide us through the last few decades of animation and into the future that's yet to come."

Pencils Vs Pixels is now available to rent on various streaming platforms. Stay tuned for more updates about Star Wars.

#10 GHOST RIDER #17 - BJORN BARENDS | MARVEL | 2023 When Marvel first announced The Hellverine, very few people took the character seriously. As Hellverine became more popular, this book became harder to track down as fans have caught wind of the cameo appearance hidden behind this fantastic cover! We tracked it at a high sale of $63 for a raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $39.

#9 X-FORCE #46 - JEFF DEKAL (1:25) | MARVEL | 2023 Not every book must be a key to be in our top ten! Some books deliver a fantastic cover that everyone needs in their collection, like this one! Jeff Dekal illustrates a beautifully contrasting image of X-23. This cover is also a retailer incentive, making it that much more difficult to find. While the hunt continues, we tracked it at a high sale of $74 for a raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $52.

#8 DAREDEVIL #9 | MARVEL | 1999 The first trailer for Echo has been released and generated hype over the new show. So many positives surround this show that it makes sense that Maya Lopez's first appearance is seeing its second week on our top ten list! A CGC 9.8 copy achieved an impressive high sale of $200, with the current fair market value for a raw NM copy standing at $79.

#7 STAR WARS: HYPERSPACE STORIES #10 - TOM FOWLER - REGULAR | DARK HORSE | 2023 The Bad Batch was a hit when it arrived on Disney+. This book marks their first comic book debut and is moving fast in the aftermarket! The Bad Batch has a strong fandom, and it shows a high sale of $80 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $10.

#6 ASTONISHING X-MEN #4 - BEAST COVER | MARVEL | 2004 Peach Momoko has built a huge fanbase with her artwork. Her next big project, ULTIMATE X-MEN, will feature a new X-Men team. The mutant, Armor, will lead that new team, and her significance in this series has shined a light back on her first appearance. We tracked it at a high sale of $64 for a CGC 9.6 copy and a current raw FN FMV of $3.

#5 THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #37 - ARTHUR ADAMS (1:25) | MARVEL | 2023 No, this issue is not a minor or major key. It is simply great artwork and a notable artist. Aside from the great cover work, this book is a retailer variant and the return of the spidey-variant Rek-Rap. A couple of funhouse villains debut in this issue, but their importance is yet to be determined in the overarching story. In the meantime, we tracked it at a high sale of $40 for a raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $29.

#4 BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES #1 - PATRICK HORVATH - COVER A | IDW | 2023 The cuddly serial killer bear, known as Samantha, is causing quite a stir. It is because this book is heating up on the aftermarket! The main reason for this is due to the perceived scarcity of the issue. However, recent reports have indicated that there may be more copies out there that retailers still need to release (due to the immediate hype). Please take this rumor with a grain of salt, but it is worth a trip to your local comic shop to see if any more issues have hit the racks! We tracked it at a high sale of $30 for a raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $14.

#3 X-MEN #27 - PEACH MOMOKO - NEW CHAMPIONS | MARVEL | 2023 Last month, a series of covers was released that fell under the banner of "New Champions". Of all the covers, Maystorm was the first to be taken from concept to featured in a comic book. Momoko announced that Maystorm will be a permanent part of her ULTIMATE X-MEN series. This announcement immediately lit a fire under this book and sent it to the top of our lists as fans rushed to pick up a copy of Maystorm's first cover appearance! We tracked it at a high sale of $25 for a raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $24.

#2 X-MEN #164 | MARVEL | 1982 ***SPOILER ALERT*** While this book is still hot, it is still trailing behind X-MEN 164 - NEWSSTAND. Collectors typically find newsstand copies of books more challenging to find and, therefore, more exclusive. In the case of this issue, the two variants are fairly neck-in-neck in terms of value. We tracked it at a high sale of $255 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw VF FMV of $27.

#1 X-MEN #164 - NEWSSTAND | MARVEL | 1982 ***SPOILER ALERT*** Everyone agrees that the end credit scenes for The Marvels were essential to the overall direction of the MCU. The scene featured an alternate universe version of Maria Rambeau, Monica Rambeau's mother as Binary. In the comic books, Carol Danvers portrays this role. The MCU has revamped characters in the past, and it looks like Binary is the latest to receive a redesign. Nevertheless, fans are excited about her future in the MCU, favoring the newsstand copy over the direct. We tracked it at a high sale of $160 for a raw copy and a current raw VF FMV of $33.

Star Wars: Taika Waititi Says His Movie Will "Piss People Off" https://comicbook.com/movies/news/taika-waititi-star-wars-movie-will-piss-people-off-report/ Wed, 15 Nov 2023 21:46:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt f5779246-5bcc-4e16-9b5a-93469fc59237

Over the last few years, Lucasfilm has largely focused on its television output. After mixed reviews for Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, the Kathleen Kennedy-led outfit opted to pause most films in development in favor of projects they could release on Disney+. Now that development is beginning to pick back up of the studio's film slate, one of the filmmakers developing a picture is Taika Waititi, the Oscar-winning director behind Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Love and Thunder. According to Waititi, some Star Wars fans may get upset with him over his movie.

"It will be ... dramatic pause... a Taika Waititi film," the filmmaker told Variety at the premiere of Searchlight's Next Goal Wins. "It's gonna piss people off."

Waititi's untitled Star Wars film is one of the many long-gestating projects at Lucasfilm, though it's still in development unlike the project once rumored to be produced by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige.

"I've got a really good idea for it," Waititi told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes began. "It's just as with all films, it's this middle part. You're like, 'What's going to happen?' And then you look at all of those films that are so great, you're like, 'Well, I guess they can't meet some smuggler with an alien sidekick.'"

Kennedy confirmed earlier this year Waititi's film was still in production before it was slowed by the Writers Guild of America strike. Kennedy said to Empire Magazine, "Taika is working away. He's just, and he won't get mad at me for saying this, slow. We've got a couple of acts, we need a third."

The filmmaker previously said he's going to let the movie breath on its own, refusing to rush the writing process of the film.

"I saw on Twitter, someone's like: I'd actually really love to see a movie about Chewbacca's grandmother. And I was like, I shouldn't have said that because this is awesome," Waititi explained in an interview with Rolling Stone. "But I just feel like for me, I'm never gonna please the fans. You know, I don't want to mess with something that's so treasured. Also, you feel like you've got to do a lot of research...and I don't have any time. [Laughs] I mean, there's thousands of books that have been written, these volumes of books about Star Wars with all those characters. I just don't have time to get through them."

Waititi continued, "So I can't say like, you know, confidently, I'd be able to do something that's like very close to what everyone knows. I'm not promising that I'm not going to do anything like that. I'm just saying: It'd be easier for me to not do that."

The unnamed movie has yet to set a release date.

First unveiled at New York Comic Con, The Stellan Gios hilt has an online release date set for November 17th at 8am PT / 11am ET. Stellan Gios is a Jedi Master who has appeared in the HIgh Republic series of books that Lucasfilm has produced over the last few years. The hilt replica is the first from Star Wars: The High Republic, and It will feature light and sound effects. It will also come bundled with a comic book and a collectible wooden case. It's expected to be limited to 5000 units, so you'll wan to jump on it quickly. Expect prices to be in the $170-$200 range. Crossguard blades are included, but the blade itself will be sold separately.

Next up is the Kanan Jarrus aka Caleb Dume Lightsaber hilt, which is already available in the Parks but will be released online on November 29th (most likely at 8am PT / 11am ET). It's based on the weapon wielded by Freddie Prinze Jr.'s character from Star Wars: Rebels. It will also include light and sound effects, though the blade will be a separate purchase. We expect this hilt replica to retail for $169.99.

New Star Wars Squishmallows will be released at shopDisney on November 20th. Again, we expect the drop to happen at 8am PT / 11am ET. It seems as though Grogu and Chewbacca will be in the lineup, but little is known beyond that.

Star Wars' Anthony Daniels Is Selling C-3PO's Head https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-anthony-daniels-is-selling-c-3pos-head-auction-propstore/ Sun, 12 Nov 2023 22:11:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 8c2d9f06-b23c-496d-8348-07d39c6fbb4d

Anthony Daniels first played C-3PO in Star Wars back in 1977, and he now holds the record for appearing in the most projects in the franchise. In fact, the actor recently made a surprise cameo as the lovable droid in Star Wars: Ahsoka. When you play a character for as long as Daniels has, especially a character in a franchise known for merchandise, you're bound to accumulate a lot of things over the years. Recently, the actor announced he'd be auctioning off nearly 200 items, including C-3PO's head, scripts, and part of the Millenium Falcon.

"I did rescue those pieces of the Millennium Falcon from a bonfire at the back of Elstree Studios after production finished on Return of the Jedi," Daniels recalled while speaking with BBC. "I realized I had these items and they're not unloved but they are unlooked at - we don't have them crowding the sitting room," Daniels explained. "Will I feel sad to part with them? No. I will enjoy the fact people will cherish and display them."

Daniels revealed he will be attending the auction, and feels "very good about it and very excited" about it. "Propstore have beautifully and carefully curated the collection ... In a curious way, it means more to them than it does to me because I have the real memories - I was there."

"What a catalogue! And yes, it's time to share. Join me and @prop_store on the 9th November. Hopefully there's something for everyone in this auction of my collection of odds and ends from every Star Wars film I've had the luck to work on. Better they are prized in your collection than unseen in my attic. The scary thing is the picture of me on the front. It was taken a long time ago... clearly," Daniels shared on Instagram. You can view his post below:

Anthony Daniels on Appearing in Ahsoka:

Daniels recently took to Instagram to share details about his Ahsoka debut.

"Never thought Threepio would have the honour to appear in the rightly lauded, Ahsoka," Daniels wrote. "So we were both surprised to get a call from the Master himself, Dave Filoni. And then, there we were, enveloped by the utterly compelling FX of The Volume. And there they were, the dedicated crew and the cast of lovely and talented humans, and droids."

He continued, "3PO and I have rarely had such an enthusiastic welcome, nor such loving support throughout our days on set. I hear that fans were moved to tears by seeing their golden friend, once again on screen. I was equally moved by the surprise ovation from the assembled team, as I finally emerged from that iconic figure. Maybe this is a good time to thank them and so many millions, for the love they have shown my friend over so many years. So... on his behalf... Thank you."

Stay tuned for more updates about Star Wars.

The Mandalorian Star Teases Star Wars Return https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/the-mandalorian-katee-sackhff-teases-star-wars-return-season-4-sag-strike/ Sun, 12 Nov 2023 16:58:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 4eb902b6-b900-4050-94eb-d6d6eb0457a7

The SAG-AFRTRA strike is officially over, which means many actors are gearing up to get back to work. One series that is set to return is Star Wars: The Mandalorian, which released its third season earlier this year. The series is confirmed to come back for a fourth season, and it looks like Katee Sackhoff is excited to get back into her armor. The star plays Bo-Katan Kryze, who is now the leader of the newly unified Mandalore. This week, she took to social media to celebrate the end of the strike and tease her Star Wars return.

"A little Throw Back Thursday since we can talk about work again ?? Thank you @sagaftra ? and I also miss my baby while traveling.... I can't wait to be home but also put this wig on again ? #Bokatan #mommy #workingmom #tbt," Sackhoff wrote. You can check out her post below:

Stay tuned for more updates about The Mandalorian and other Star Wars projects.

Star Wars RPG Quietly Returns to Stores Next Month https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-rpg-beginner-boxes-dice-sale/ Fri, 10 Nov 2023 19:35:00 +0000 Christian Hoffer 68700748-7ba3-48f5-9e8e-e6573c84ccc7

The once-popular Star Wars RPG is returning to stores next month with reprinted content, including new sets of the custom dice for the game. Next month, Asmodee will release Beginner Games for all three of its Star Wars RPGs, marking the first time that the Beginner Boxes have been in print for several years. Additionally, Asmodee will also release sets of the custom dice needed to play the game, a relief for many Star Wars fans who have been unable to get the dice from retailers in several years.

Each beginner box covers a different aspect of the Star Wars franchise and are for technically separate, but cross-compatible games Age of Rebellion covers the Rebel Alliance/Galactic Empire conflict, Edge of the Empire explores the Outer Rim and rules for being a smuggler or criminal in the Star Wars universe, and Force and Destiny is for those who want to play a Jedi or Force sensitive-themed character. All three games use the Genesys system, a custom game engine specifically created for the Star Wars RPGs.

Fantasy Flight Games first released the Star Wars RPGs in 2020, but the line was discontinued as part of a wider company overhaul that saw all of its RPGs licenses transferred to the new Asmodee subsidiary Edge Studios. While Edge Studios confirmed plans to continue the Star Wars line, there has been inconsistent messaging as to whether this will include new material. Earlier this year, Edge Studios finally announced plans to reprint 11 sourcebooks for the game, with these Beginner Boxes serving as an entry point for the game. It remains unclear if this will lead to new material for the Star Wars RPG getting published in 2024 or if the reprint is just a way to get the game back in the hands of Star Wars fans.

The Star Wars Animatronic Lola Droid Hits Rock Bottom For Black Friday https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-animatronic-lola-droid-black-friday/ Fri, 10 Nov 2023 19:31:00 +0000 Sean Fallon 8062ce5d-af01-445a-8c93-e734d4a9e5bf 71qucziv4zl-ac-sl1500.jpg

As part of Star Wars Celebration 2022, Hasbro revealed an animatronic edition of the L0-LA59 (LOLA) droid that appears as young princess Leia's companion in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+. It includes all kinds of fancy features which lead to an $89.99 price tag at launch, but you can get one right here as part of Walmart's Black Friday sale for only $15, which is a ridiculous 83% off the list price. That beats the previous low of $20 that Amazon ran a few months back. Clearly, there's quite a bit of Lola overstock out there, but this elaborate toy costs significantly less than a single Black Series figure at this point, which makes it a crazy deal.

STAR WARS L0-LA59 (LOLA) ANIMATRONIC EDITION: "The STAR WARS L0-LA59 (LOLA) ANIMATRONIC EDITION lets kids and fans alike bring home a beloved droid companion. This toy features design and deco inspired by the OBI-WAN KENOBI live-action series on Disney+. Touch the censor on L0-LA59's head to activate more than 45 different light, sound, and movement combinations through 3 modes of play. Unlock Companion Mode by attaching L0-LA59's legs, Hover Mode by attaching her stand, or On the Go Mode by removing her from either base. She even responds to background noises with a series of lights, sounds, and movements. Kids ages 4 and up will love this adorable animatronic droid, which makes the perfect addition to any fan's Star Wars collection. Includes figure and 2 stands. X4 1.5V AA LR6 ALKALINE BATTERIES Required (not included)."

Will There Be An Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 on Disney+?

"I always hesitate to say no to more Obi-Wan Kenobi," Kennedy said of the Jedi Master on EW's Dagobah Dispatch podcast. "Maybe we end up doing something that gets incorporated into some of the other stories that we're doing, or eventually into a movie, but who knows? But right now, it's still our standard stand-alone limited series."

She added: "We have no plans for expansion right now."

Series director and executive producer Deborah Chow, who helmed all six episodes, recently said that the story was "conceived as a limited series" and "is closed." Still, Chow added: "There's 10 more years before New Hope, so never say never."

All episodes of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi are now streaming on Disney+.

Star Wars: Fast X and Incredible Hulk Director Reveals the Projects He Pitched to Lucasfilm https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-louis-leterrier-projects-pitched-boba-fett-obi-wan-kenobi-luke-skywalker/ Fri, 10 Nov 2023 16:44:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 157adfb6-97f9-4e6a-b031-93ea51be2122

Having delivered entries into both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Fast and Furious franchises, filmmaker Louis Leterrier has gotten to tell stories in some of the most beloved cinematic series, but the director recently confirmed he also tried to head to the galaxy far, far away with Star Wars projects. Leterrier noted that his ideas are similar to what we would go on to see in The Mandalorian and in the Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi TV shows, but rather than claiming he influenced those projects, admitted that they were obvious storytelling decisions. The director's passion for the franchise likely means he'd still be open to getting involved in the franchise in some way.

While speaking with the Happy Sad Confused podcast about being a fan of Star Wars, Leterrier confirmed, "We all are. Any person, man, woman, whatever, American, French, Asian person who says, in their 40s-50s, saying they're making movies for a different reason than trying to do a Star Wars movie are lying. We all are trying, in a way, to make a Star Wars movie. Even in my last movie, in Fast X, I put TIE Fight sounds in it. I just cannot help myself."

As far as whether his love of Star Wars ever resulted in getting to make official pitches to the studio, Leterrier confirmed, "I had it a long time ago when I came to them and pitched a Lone Wolf ... 'We should do a Star Wars TV show conceived as a Lone Wolf and Cub,' and they say, 'Eh, we don't know if it's a great idea. We'll come back to you with this idea.'" Given how similar this pitch sounded to the narrative of The Mandalorian, the director clarified, "It was not Mando, it was two things: I wanted to do the missing part between ... Basically before [Star Wars: A New Hope] where Obi-Wan takes Luke, I wanted to do that, but also was very interested in the Boba Fett movie, or TV show. That's okay, I did Hulk, I did other things."

Leterrier didn't offer up any details on the timing of when he pitched these projects, though it can be assumed it was after Lucasfilm was purchased by The Walt Disney Company. He also noted that there weren't any sour feelings, as he conceived of these projects because they seemed like such obvious storytelling opportunities.

"It's all good, it's all part of the thing. And, frankly, I had this idea because it was low-hanging fruit, I think it was so obvious, the characters are so iconic," the filmmaker added. "Didn't go the way I wanted."

Stay tuned for updates on the future of the Star Wars franchise.

Ahsoka's Sabine Wren Actress Natasha Liu Bordizzo Shares Epic Behind-the-Scenes Photos From Star Wars Series https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-ahsoka-sabine-wren-natasha-liu-bordizzo-behind-scenes-photos-images/ Fri, 10 Nov 2023 16:11:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw a98811a3-2f58-449c-ab99-6b88f2b76d6f

Star Wars: Ahsoka was an epic expansion of the Star Wars Universe - and by the look of things, the cast of the show had as much fun making it as fans did watching it!

Ahsoka brought the world of the Star Wars Rebels animated series to life in live-action, and actress Natasha Liu Bordizzo carved out her place as the live-action version of Sabine Wren. Bordizzo has shared an pretty epic gallery of photos from her time on set making Ashoka - which you can check out below!

The photos include appearances by the animatronic model for droid character Huyang; Rosario Dawson in her Ahsoka Tano makeup; Bordizzo actually looking friendly and snuggly with Sabine's Dark Jedi rival Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno); and the now-famous shot of Bordizzo, Dawson, and Sakhno hanging out with the late, great, Ray Stevenson (Baylan Skoll).

There are also some great "behind-the-scenes" moments captured in Bordizzo's photo gallery. One shot shows her and Dawson standing with their respective stunt doubles on set; another shows Bordizzo doing a screen test/photo pose as Sabine, holding Ezra Bridger's green lightsaber. Another shot shows Bordizzo with some of the ladies of the crew behind Ahsoka - like costumer Val Mores, makeup artist Alex Perrone, and hair designer Maria Sandoval. There's also some action-packed video footage of Bordizzo doing the fight choreography training for Sabine's big fight against the raiders on Peridea, and an iconic black-and-white shot of Bordizzo and Sakhno in a dojo-style room practicing one of their duel sequences.

Natasha Liu Bordizzo included a caption on the photo gallery that made it abundantly clear: she's been wanting to interact with fans for months now since Ahsoka's been out. It was the Actors Strike that prevented Bordizzo (and the other cast members of Ahsoka) from ever speaking up to promote the show, do public interviews, or even share promotional material on their personal social media feeds. But now that SAG-AFTRA has ended the strike, we're doing some much-needed catch-up.

Fan-favorite Star Wars hero Ahsoka Tano returns, as Rosario Dawson stars in Star Wars: Ahsoka. The series picks up after the events of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, in which we saw the former Jedi searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and helping Luke Skywalker train Grogu. Ahsoka is joined on her new mission alongside longtime allies Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) as they attempt to track down Thrawn, who was last seen disappearing to the far reaches of space after a confrontation with Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). Star Wars: Ahsoka is the latest live-action series from Lucasfilm's creative duo of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

Star Wars Video Game Delayed Again https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-hunters-video-game-delayed-again/ Thu, 09 Nov 2023 02:45:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 50537010-32e7-4ac1-ad85-6e406b9507b1

The Star Wars franchise has no shortage of video games to play across multiple platforms, and those existing games are going to have to tide fans over for the time being, as a game expected to release in 2023 has been pushed back to next year. Zynga announced today that Star Wars: Hunters will now be arriving sometime in 2024. When it does end up releasing, the squad-based multiplayer game will be available on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices. In a statement posted to the Zynga Star Wars Twitter account, the game's developers noted that they are "committed to creating the best experience for our players."

Star Wars: Hunters Soft Launch

(Photo: Zynga/Lucasfilm Games)

Unfortunately, the statement does not offer any idea when Star Wars: Hunters should be expected in 2024, but hopefully the delay will result in a more polished game at launch. While delays are a common thing in the gaming industry, the announcement was met with a lot of frustration from Star Wars fans. Star Wars: Hunters already soft launched in some regions of the world all the way back in 2021, and was originally supposed to release in 2022, before getting pushed to 2023. Now the game has been delayed again, despite the fact that some people have been playing it for two years! Zynga addressed the soft launch in its statement today, and how it's hoping to add more features ahead of the game's worldwide launch.

"We are thankful to all our fans who have played Star Wars: Hunters in soft launch and have loved the engagement and enthusiasm for the game shown in our soft launch territories. There are several exciting new elements we are still working hard to get into the game before it launches worldwide. These include Ranked Mode, exciting updates to our core gameplay mechanics, and much more," the statement reads.

Star Wars: Heritage Pack

The delay of Star Wars: Hunters is sure to frustrate a lot of Switch owners, but the system does have a pretty significant Star Wars release coming next month. Star Wars: Heritage Pack is a collection set to release in stores on December 8th, and it will contain seven classic Star Wars games. The Heritage Pack has been available for a while on the eShop, but the collection marks the first time it has gotten a physical release. The collection includes fan favorites like Star Wars Episode I: Racer and The Force Unleashed, as well as Knights of the Old Republic, which is widely considered one of the greatest video games of all-time. The remasters included in the collection are all on the older side, but for Star Wars fans that have never had a chance to play these games, there's never been a better opportunity!

Are you planning to check out Star Wars: Hunters when it releases? Have you been eagerly waiting for the game's release? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Star Wars Has Made a Big Change to the Galaxy https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-changes-galaxy-nihil-space-occlusion-zone-high-republic-phase-3/ Wed, 08 Nov 2023 22:26:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 915486a7-04ad-4876-affe-cca506bd3f53

Star Wars has made a big change to the galaxy far, far, away - one that was teased by the recent Star Wars: Ahsoka TV series!

The Star Wars: The High Repubic line of novels and books are entering Phase III this fall. The Marvel Comics series Star Wars: The High Republic and Star Wars: The High Republic - Shadows of Starlight both pick up the storyline of the Jedi's war with the Nihil space pirates with the decisive move by the evil space raiders: establishing the Occlusion Zone!

Star Wars Nihil Occlusion Zone Explained

star-wars-the-high-republic-nihil-occlusion-zone.jpg
(Photo: Marvel Comics)

The Occlusion (or Exclusion) Zone is a section of Star Wars' Outer Rim Territories that the Nihil leader Marchion Ro has claimed as Nihil territory. The ten sectors of space on the Galactic Frontier were sealed off behind an energy barrier, which prevent any access to hyperspace travel lanes, and effectively prevents any comings or goings that the Nihil can't counter with brutal force. The innocent people caught behind the barrier are given a "choice": consider themselves Nihil and abide by the laws of the group, or be viewed as an enemy. The Jedi are deemed the biggest enemy of the Nihil and their territory, to be outed and eliminated wherever found.

In both High Republic Phase III comics, we get a harrowing first picture of how the Jedi, Republic, and citizens of the Outer Rim all react to Nihil establishing the Occlusion Zone. Shadows of Starlight follows the High Republic's central protagonists - Jedi Masters Avar Kriss and Elzar Mann - as they try to deal with the pivotal destruction of Starlight Beacon (and their closest friend, Master Stellan Gios). The Occlusion Zone falls over the Outer Rim when Avar is searching for the Nihil, trapping her inside. Seven months pass in the comic as Avar tries to evade the Nihil and survive long enough to be rescued.

The main High Republic comic examines the Jedi response outside the Occlusion Zone, as Mann tasks Jedi Knight Keeve Trennis and her twin Jedi allies Terec and Ceret with disrupting a meeting between the Nihil and the Hutts over a potential alliance. Needless to say, the mix of Jedi, gangsters, and pirates does not end peacefully.

How Ahsoka Teased The Occlusion Zone Arc

Star Wars: Ahsoka Episode 4 had High Republic fans sitting and pointing like a Leonardo DiCaprio meme. Ahsoka Tano's (Rosario Dawson) duel with Dark Jedi Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) on Seatos included runes which, when decoded, made mention of the Nihil Occlusion Zone. It was implied that the pathway from the Outer Rim Territories to where Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger were stranded in the next galaxy, passed through the Nihil's Occlusion Zone. Not a major tie, but another nice way that The High Republic and its happenings are being woven into the larger Star Wars Universe.

Star Wars: The High Republic Phase III and Star Wars: The High Republic - Shadows of Starlight comics are now on sale.
