For the first time since his medical emergency earlier this year, Jamie Foxx has appeared in a public manner. During Monday night's Critics Choice Association's Celebration of Cinema and Television event, Foxx appeared to accept an honor from Lovecraft Country star Jurnee Smollett. Foxx received a standing ovation as he walked across the stage, hugging Smollett before taking the mic to address his health scare.

"You know, it's crazy, I couldn't do that six months ago -- I couldn't actually walk," Foxx said in his speech before joking, "I'm not a clone, I'm not a clone. I know a lot of people who was saying I was cloned out there."

He added, "I wouldn't wish what I went through on my worst enemy, because it's tough. I have a new respect for life. I have a new respect for my art. I watched so many movies and listened to so many songs trying to have the time go by. Don't give up on your art, man, don't give up."

Details on Foxx's scare remain minimal, with the actor and his team working overtime to not let any such information leak to the public. After his medical complication in April, which shut down photography on Netflix's Back in Action, Foxx wasn't seen or heard from until late July.

"I know a lot of people were waiting, wanting to hear updates. But, to be honest with you, I just didn't want you to see me like that, man," Foxx said in his July message to fans. "I want you to see me laughing and having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie or television show. I didn't want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through."

Foxx was at the event to accept the Vanguard Award for his performance in Prime Video's The Burial, which he appeared in alongside Smollett.

"Working with Jamie, I found a generous scene partner I can lean on and trust," Smollett said as she introduced her co-star. "Even though we were playing rivals battling it out in the courtroom, in him, I found a great cheerleader -- one who on our very first day shooting y'all he came, and right after the third take, he came up to me, he's like, 'Man, you are killing this role.' Now I don't think he understands what that kind of support means to someone like me who's watched him my entire life."

What is Good Burger 2 About?

The original '90s sketch first aired on All That in 1994 and was centered around fast-food restaurant Good Burger and its clueless cashier, Ed, played by Kel Mitchell in Seasons 1-5. The feature film Good Burger was released worldwide on July 25, 1997, by Paramount Pictures. Later in the All That revival series in 2019, Mitchell returned guest starring as Ed, working at Good Burger for 20 years as manager of the trainees.

Good Burger 2 reunites the classic combo of Dexter (Thompson) and Ed (Mitchell) 26 years after the fast-food dudes starred in 1997's Good Burger, based on the iconic recurring sketch from Nickelodeon's All That. The new movie sees entrepreneur Dex help Good Burger owner Ed save the restaurant from MegaCorp CEO Katt Boswell (Jillian Bell) and Cecil McNevin (Lil Rel Howery), who plot to fire all Good Burger employees and automate the fast-food chain as part of a global "Mega Good Burger" expansion.

Good Burger 2 is the most-watched original film on Paramount+ since the service's launch and the success of the film is something that Thompson previously called "surreal" and "amazing".

"Seeing Good Burger 2 hit No. 1 on Paramount+ as their biggest original movie ever was totally surreal. It's amazing to see the movie bringing kids together with the generation that grew up with the first one," star and producer Thompson said in a press release. "It also has an extra personal meaning for me because reuniting with my brother Kel takes it back to where it all began for us. I'm so proud that my production company Artists For Artists helped with producing this film - shout out to my partner Johnny Ryan and the whole creative team."

In other coffee-related news, Yellowstone star Kevin Costner and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters recently announced a new lineup of coffee blends with the first variety, Horizon Blend by Kevin Costner, set to debut next month. According to Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, the blend is a bold and smoky dark roast inspired by the American West.

"Alongside the Green Mountain Coffee Roasters team, we embarked on a journey of exploration, experimenting with various concepts. They were able to help guide me through the process where my opinion was valued and incorporated. It was the best outcome I could have imagined," Costner said in a statement.

The actor worked with Green Mountain directly to create the blend, which is said to be grounded in his own, personal coffee taste but also will appeal to a wide range of coffee lovers. The Late Show will be without new episodes for at least one more week. Monday, Stephen Colbert announced he's taking another week off as he continues recovering from an appendectomy late last month. Colbert made the announcement on his Threads account, saying he's taking it easy due to the advice of his medical team.

"I'm listening to my doctors and continuing to rest and heal," Colbert said. "Thank you for all your well wishes and I'll see you soon."

New episodes for the iconic late night show were temporarily paused after Thanksgiving because Colbert suffered from a ruptured appendix, a medical emergency in every sense of the word.

"Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week. I'm sure you're thinking, 'Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?' Actually, I'm recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix," Colbert posted on Threads last week. "I'm grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me. Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas."

The burst appendix is the second medical issue Colbert has suffered from this fall. In October, the late night host paused episodes after he tested positive for COVID-19. The host also cancelled episodes in 2022 because of COVID as well.

"Stephen is experiencing symptoms consistent with a recurrence of COVID," the show's May 2022 announcement read. "Out of an abundance of caution for his staff, guests, and audience, he will be isolating for a few additional days. The Late Show will not be taping new episodes until further notice."

Colbert has been open about his experience hosting The Late Show during the pandemic, as well as how his anxieties about the virus impacted his time as a performer.

"I'm glad to have relaxed into that vulnerable feeling because it makes you less nervous in general about being a public figure, let alone a public performer," Colbert explained in a 2021 interview with Variety. "It's like you're saying, 'Well, this is really what I'm like, and I hope that's OK with you.' And to find out that was OK was another level of becoming myself, of which this entire show has been a journey to."

Ryan Reynolds is preparing for this holiday season -- and helping out a good cause -- as only he can. On Monday, the Deadpool 3 star took to social media to share a new advertisement for the SickKids Foundation, the Canadian charity that he is an official ambassador for. The advertisement sees the return of Reynolds' ugly sweater, which he has worn in previous videos and in a viral photo with fellow Marvel stars Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal.

The video, which you can check out below, pokes fun at some of the less-agreeable parts of children's behavior, and promotes SickKids' ability to help kids get back to "just being a kid." Of course, that involves some jokes, and another cameo from hockey player Auston Matthews and singer Michael Buble.

Who Is in the Cast of Deadpool 3?

Deadpool 3 will star Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, and Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen in currently-unknown roles. Jennifer Garner will be reprising her role as Elektra.

"I think you're giving me too much credit," Reynolds explained in a previous interview with Collider. "I don't believe that I'm responsible for Hugh coming back. I always wanted Hugh to come back. My first meeting with Kevin Feige when Disney bought Fox years ago, maybe three years ago, or three and a half, four years ago, I'm not sure, was about doing a movie with the two of us, a Deadpool Wolverine movie. And that was not possible at the time. And then Hugh just happened to call at that perfect moment and express that he'd be interested in coming back and doing this one more time. And the contents of that conversation, I'll let Hugh, because I know it's only inevitable that you and Hugh are going to speak at some point soon, I'm sure. I'll let Hugh answer that on his own. But he expressed interest in coming back, and then it was my job to take that to Kevin Feige one more time and sell it."

When Is Deadpool 3's Release Date?

Deadpool 3 is set to be released exclusively in theaters on July 26, 2024, making it the only Marvel Studios film to debut in that calendar year. Production on the film was delayed for several months amid the writers' and actor's strikes in Hollywood.

"I know we were gonna be May 3," director Shawn Levy revealed in an interview earlier this year. "Certainly, the actors' strike and the long pause in production have put that release date in true risk. We've shot half the movie. I've edited half the movie. We're dying to get back to work and get this movie out next year."

Nicolas Cage is only planning to do three or four more movies before saying goodbye to that lane of acting performance for good - at least that's what the iconic actor is now saying. In a recent interview Cage was taking about the craft of acting and how he approaches it, which inevitably led to a discussion about just how much of it he's done at this point. Nearly half a century entertaining fans onscreen in over 100 films... who can blame him for having an end destination in sight?

"I mean, I like staying fresh. I mean, I like to keep mixing it up. I don't want to get stuck in any genre or any performance style," Cage explained to Uproxx, before adding "I want to do it all. And I feel that I've, at this point - after 45 years of doing this; that in over 100 movies - I feel I've pretty much said what I've had to say with cinema."

That's when the conversation with Nic Cage shifted into his vision of what a graceful exit from the business looks like:

"I'd like to leave on a high note and say, 'Adios,'" Cage said. "I think I have to do maybe three or four more movies before I can get there, and then hopefully switch formats and go into some other way of expressing my acting."

Of course, when you are Nicolas Cage - one of the most prolific actors of his generation - getting out of the game isn't quite that easy, business-wise. By his own account, Cage is already contracted to do more than just those "three or four" more performances he's wishing for:

"I would've liked to have left on a high note... But I have other contracts that I have to fulfill, so we'll see what happens," Cage said. "I mean, I am going to be very severe and very astringent on the selection process moving forward. But for me to do another movie, I do want to explore other formats."

For all the passionate Nic Cage fans out there: do not fret. Cage may leave acting in movies behind, but he isn't leaving acting behind, altogether.

"I am very interested in immersion streaming with episodic television," Cage explained. "I have seen things that can be done now with characters and the time they're given to express themselves. I saw Bryan Cranston stare at a suitcase for an hour on one episode of Breaking Bad. We don't have time to do that in a feature film, so maybe television is the next best step for me. We'll see."

Oxford University Press (OUP) has unveiled its 2023 Word of the Year, and in what may be the upset of the year, "Swiftie" didn't make the cut. Of course, Swiftie refers to Taylor Swift's legion of fans, who have taken their fandom to NFL fields after her recent relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelcie. Swift was on hand last night for NBC's Sunday Night Football matchup between the Chiefs and Green Bay Packers, with the latter pulling off the upset at Arrowhead Field in Kansas City. As for Oxford's 2023 Word of the Year, "Rizz" wound up the winner.

"'Rizz' has been named Oxford's 2023 Word of the Year, beating out contenders like situationship, prompt, de-influencing and Swiftie," a post from the New York Times account on Threads reads. The definition of "Rizz" reads, "The Gen Z slang term and Oxford's 2023 Word of the Year is derived from 'charisma.' The word refers to 'style, charm or attractiveness,' or 'the ability to attract a romantic or sexual partner.'" More than 32,000 votes from the public were cast.

Where does the Oxford 2023 Word of the Year Rizz come from?

"Rizz" has Spider-Man actor Tom Holland to thank for making its popularity skyrocket earlier in the year. At the time, Holland was asked by Buzzfeed what the secret to his rizz was, to which he replied, "I have no rizz whatsoever. I have limited rizz."

"It has been incredible to see the public once again enjoying being a part of the Word of the Year selection. Subway's new Footlong Sidekicks will soon reach the masses. Days after the sandwich shop announced the permanent addition of its footlong cookie to menus, new marketing materials that have surfaced online are suggesting a massive rollout of two other footlong additions.

Earlier this fall, a viral TikTok teased the arrival of a footlong pretzel produced by Auntie Anne's and a footlong churro produced by Cinnabon being tested at select Subway locations. Now, both of those items are being released nationwide when the calendar flips over to 2024.

When is Subway releasing the footlong cookie?

After a test earlier this year, the footlong cookie will be released at as a permanent menu item at some point in 2024. Judging by the Instagram post above, the three Footlong Sidekicks will be available nationwide on an at least temporary basis beginning January 18th.

"The overwhelming response we received from fans around the country last year let us know that we needed to make the footlong cookie a permanent addition to our menu," Paul Fabre, Senior Vice President, Culinary and Innovation, said of the addition in a press release. "At Cookieway this year, our guests will get a sneak peek of an even better footlong cookie: thick, gooey, packed with chocolate chips and served warm - right out of the oven. It's the perfect pairing with your favorite footlong sub and may even become your favorite footlong after the first bite."

"As part of Subway's transformation journey, the brand is always testing new ingredients and menu items to deliver better food and a better guest experience," a Subway spokesperson told the news show. "These and other items have been in development for over a year and are being tested at select locations across the U.S."

Dune: Part Two star Florence Pugh was struck in the face by an object thrown from the crowd during an appearance at CCXP 2023 in Brazil on Sunday. In video which was posted online, Pugh was with co-stars Timoth?e Chalamet, Austin Butler and Zendaya posing for photos when an object can be observed flying through the air and striking Pugh in the face. Pugh briefly looks stunned before bending down to retrieve the object while her castmates and others look on concerned and a little confused about what just happened. There have been numerous incidences of performers being struck by objects thrown at the stage in recent months, though usually in concert settings. Earlier this year, Pugh's Don't Worry Darling co-star Harry Styles was hit in the eye by an object thrown at stage while he was performing in Austria. Drake, Cardi B and others have also been struck by objects or have had objects thrown at them while on stage. As for this latest incident, it is unclear if Pugh sustained any injuries.

What Is Dune: Part Two About?

Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

"We have been hearing in the past few decades that it's not possible to adapt this book, and that it's an impossible task. I think that in the back of the mind of the studio, it's still the same!" director and co-writer Denis Villeneuve told Total Film in a 2021 interview. "So, the first thing was to prove that there was a beautiful, popular movie that can exist, and I think that I proved that - everybody at Warner Bros and Legendary, they are 100 percent behind the project. They feel that it would need a really bad outcome at the box office to not have a Dune: Part Two, because they love the movie. They are proud of the movie, so they want the movie to move forward. And they still did half of it. So, you know, I'm very optimistic."

"I'm writing [Part Two] now, and I feel like I'm eight years old again," he added. "That's very uncommon for me. It's the first time I've experienced it where I'm watching one of my movies, and I have a moment of deep gratitude, of deep joy, and I say, 'Thank you, life, for having allowed me to bring that to the screen.' [laughs] I don't know how other people will feel about it. But me? Denis Villeneuve when he was 14 years old? Thank you."

When Does Dune: Part Two Open In Theaters

After some shifts, Warner Bros. Discover and Legendary Entertainment recently announced that Dune: Part Two will finally arrive in theaters on March 1, 2024. The film had previously been set for a November 17, 2023, release date, then March 13, 2024, then March 15th. The cast of Dune: Part Two stars Timoth?e Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, L?a Seydoux, Souheila Yacoub, with Stellan Skarsg?rd, with Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem.

Doom Patrol and Supernatural star Mark Sheppard is lucky to be alive. On Saturday, the actor best known for his role as Crowley on the long-running Supernatural and as Willoughby Kipling on Doom Patrol, took to Instagram on Saturday to share that he had recently survived six major heart attacks -- and been brought back from the dead four times -- but is now on the mend. In his post, he thanked his wife, the Los Angeles Fire Department and the hospital and noted that he was expected to be released to go home on Sunday.

"You're not going to believe this! Was on my way to an appointment yesterday when I collapsed in my kitchen," Sheppard wrote. "Six massive heart attacks later and being brought back from dead 4 times I apparently had a 100% blockage in my LAD. The Windowmaker. If not for my wife, the @losangelesfiredepartment at mullholland and the incredible staff @providencecalifornia St. Joseph's -- I wouldn't be writing this. My chances of survival were virtually nil. I feel great. Humbled once more. Home tomorrow!"

Both fans and his Supernatural and Doom Patrol co-stars shared their well wishes to the actor on his post, with Misha Collins teasing him a little, writing "You don't need to do the most and biggest every time! 6 heart attacks? 2 or 3 would have been impressive enough. You've impressed us, okay. Now stop with this heal up and get back on the road with us. Love you, pal."

His Doom Patrol co-star Michelle Gomez wrote that now, he is meant to do great things.

"I'm so sorry you had to go through something like this," she wrote. "But you, my friend, have been saved to do great things. Huge love."

Sheppard Says Doom Patrol Had a "Really Good" Ending

Recently, Doom Patrol ended its run after four season, concluding the story of DC's weirdest group of heroes. Ahead of the final episodes of the series, Sheppard reassured fans that the beloved series had a good ending.

"Genuinely, I do know that Jeremy [Carver, series showrunner] was prepared for this," Sheppard said earlier this year. "So, the end of Doom Patrol, season 4B, is really good. It's really good as an ending."

"We got four years of Doom Patrol out under the wire, and we made something beautiful. That was a joy," Sheppard said. "I mean, it was an absolute joy. And after Season 1, everyone was asking, 'Why isn't Brendan Fraser in everything? And it's true, because he's just so wonderful.'"

He added, "If you put your heart into something, it doesn't matter what it is. If you put your heart and your passion into something, it is its own reward."

HGTV's long running series Love It or List It is losing one of its hosts. According to Deadline, designer Hilary Farr, who has appeared on 258 episodes of the reality series since its debut in 2011, announced on Friday that she is departing the series. The series, which Farr appeared on alongside real estate agent David Visentin, is continuing with Visentin expected to stay on the series as well.

"It's been a wonderful 12 years. I'm so grateful to the network for their support and to my fans who have stayed loyal and true," Farr said. "David and I will remain friends forever and I expect him to be as fabulously and hilariously annoying as ever. Love it or List It has had such a true impact on so many lives, including mine, but now it's time for me to embrace new challenges that have come my way. If this is my legacy, it's a great one."

Visentin also issued a statement on the departure of Farr, stating that he looks forward to their continued friendship and calling working with her on the series a "wild, unforgettable ride."

"Working with Hilary has been a wild, unforgettable ride," he said. "I'd like to forget the mountain of 'love its' but hey, she's a talented lady. Although we were rivals on the show, we became quick friends and share countless memories both on and off set. I look forward to continuing that friendship and wish her all the best in everything she does."

What Is Love It or List It About?

Love It or List It is a home renovation reality series which saw Farr and Visentin go head-to-head in efforts to win over homeowners who had come to a crossroads regarding their houses -- with Farr working on renovations to make homeowners "love" their homes so they'd want to stay while Visentin showed them new properties in an effort to convince them to "list" their old homes for sale. The series has spawned five spinoffs, including Love it or List It Vancouver (billed as Love It or List It Too in the U.S.) In addition to Love It or List It, Farr also has another series on HGTV, Tough Love with Hilary Farr, which recently aired its second season. It's not clear yet if Tough Love will be back for a third season, but Farr told People she has "other things in the pipeline."

"We'll see what happens there," she said. "I'm not at all stepping away."

There has been a lot of tragedy surrounding the cast of Glee over the years, but many of the show's cast members have remained close through it all. In fact, some of them reunited on the SAG picket lines earlier this year. Back in 2020, Naya Rivera, who was best known for playing Santana Lopez on the musical dramedy series, passed away at age 33 after an accidental drowning. Three years after her death, Rivera's Glee family is reuniting to honor her with a song. Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Amber Riley, Heather Morris, Vanessa Lengies, and Ashley Fink have added their voices to a previously unreleased song by Rivera.

According to Deadline, "Prayers for the Broken" was recorded by Rivera in 2012, and now includes additional vocals from her Glee co-stars. The song has been released as part of nonprofit Alexandria House's annual Snixxmas Charity Fundraiser honoring Rivera. Two of Hollywood's biggest superhero actors are feuding -- for a pretty unexpected reason. In a recent social media post on TikTok, Aquaman star Jason Momoa jokingly called out Thor star Chris Hemsworth, acknowledging that because his new costume in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is padded, he didn't need to work out beforehand. What Is Aquaman 2 About?

In Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which arrives in theaters on December 25th, when an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will see the return of Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Patrick Wilson as Orm, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Randall Park as Stephen Shin. Jani Zhao will play new character Stingray, Indya Moore will play Karshon, and Vincent Regan will play Atlan, who was previously portrayed by Graham McTavish in Aquaman. Pilou Asbaek has also joined the cast in a mystery role. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is directed by James Wan, with a script from David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Producers include Wan and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran.

"I absolutely think Aquaman will be involved in the DCU," Momoa revealed in an interview with Total Film magazine earlier this year. "It's on, bro - there's no one bigger than Aquaman! But, also, I hope people are excited to see the new one. It's fun. I really enjoy doing comedy. There's some really funny stuff with Patrick Wilson. I really adore him. We had a great time working together. It's like we're brothers. There's a lot of cool stuff happening in this one."

What Is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga About?

In Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, as the world fell, young Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

"I came into that film exhausted. I thought, 'How am I going to get through this?'" Hemsworth recalled in an interview with GQ earlier this year. "Week one of rehearsals with [Miller], all of a sudden it was this reigniting of my creative energy ... [It was] by far the best experience of my career, and something I feel the most proud of. It made me think, the work isn't what's exhausting, it's what kind of work it is, and how invested I am in it and if it is challenging in the right ways ... I'm on the hunt for more George Millers. Or more of George Miller. If he'll have me."

The film will also stars an ensemble cast that also includes Tom Burke, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, and Quaden Bayles.

Shang-Chi and Barbie star Simu Liu has pulled out of an upcoming event due to "health scares." Liu took to Instagram on Thursday to reveal that he will no longer be participating in Disney World's 2023 Candlelight Processional. The annual event features a number of celebrity narrators who retell the story of Christmas, joined by a full orchestra and choir. Liu was set to narrate the show from November 30th through December 2nd. While Liu does not specify the "health scares" in question, he did recently make headlines for tearing his Achilles tendon.

"I'm so absolutely gutted to have to drop out of this year's Candlelight Processional at Disney World," Liu's post reads. "For those who were looking forward to seeing me, know that I was equally looking forward to be a part of your holidays. The health of myself and my family are of paramount importance to me. After all that's the spirit of this season! And so, after some health scares I've made the difficult decision to stay at home. Something tells me this isn't the last you've seen of me at Candlelight though.. let's all keep fingers crossed for 2024!"

What Will Shang-Chi 2 Be About?

Liu is expected to reprise his role as Shang-Chi in a sequel, which has been confirmed to be in development at Marvel Studios. While a title, synopsis, or other plot points surrounding Shang-Chi 2 remain a mystery, Liu previously hinted that the sequel would further expand the mythos, and hopefully include as much of its ensemble cast as possible.

"Going into a sequel feels exciting. It doesn't necessarily feel like there's a pressure to perform or a pressure to exceed," Liu told Collider earlier this year. "It feels like we've established a world and there's just something really nostalgic and exciting about returning to that world that we've spent so much time ideating on and thinking about. And then, we're getting to revisit some things, but also show the viewer new things. We'll deliver all of the amazing action that we were celebrated for on the first movie, but then also hopefully explore new sides of Shaun's character and the characters around him. That is, of course, if we can still afford Michelle Yeoh. She's on top of the world and just the queen of everything."

Will Shang-Chi Appear in Avengers 5?

Shang-Chi's Destin Daniel Cretton was originally set to helm the next Avengers movie, which means that fans have naturally begun to wonder if Liu will reprise his role in that film as well. While speaking to ComicBook.com last year, Liu responded to that speculation by saying, "I would think so...I would hope so. Don't take my word for it."

"It feels incredible. I obviously learned about the news a little bit before the rest of the world did, but I freaked out," Liu told ComicBook.com in late 2022. "I sent him like forty texts in a row, all exclamation marks. I'm just so incredibly happy for him, he's so deserving of that spot. What makes him such a special filmmaker, and I've said this from the beginning even when we were premiering our movie, is his ability to make a $150 million movie really, really small, in the best possible way. I'm really looking forward to what he does on that even grander scale of The Avengers because I think it's easy to maybe get lost in the spectacle of what those movies can be, the vastness and the grandness of it, but if you can maintain the humanity and the human stories, I think that's what will make a movie memorable and special, and I think Destin's got it. I think he's got it and I think he deserves this so much. I'm so excited to get to work for him again.

It's almost the end of the year, meaning that it's time to look back on some of our favorites and biggest memories of 2023. For a number of people, that is helped by Spotify's Spotify Wrapped -- and it looks like DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn is joining in on the fun. In a recent post on Threads, Gunn shared a few screenshots from his Wrapped, which reveals which artists he listened to the most actively in 2023.

Gunn also shared his playlist of his top songs for 2023 -- but with a few missing, because they apparently lead to future projects Gunn is working on. With Gunn writing DC Studios' Creature Commandos animated series, as well as writing and directing Superman: Legacy, there's no telling what these missing tracks could end up being.

What Is Superman: Legacy About?

Per DC Studios, Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned. Superman: Legacy will be written and directed by Gunn, and will serve as the first film installment of his and Peter Safran's DC Universe reboot.

"It's not an origin story," DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran told reporters earlier this year. "It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice, and the American way. He has kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned."

Who Is in the Cast of Superman: Legacy?

Superman: Legacy will star David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Mar?a Gabriela de Far?a as Angela Spica / The Engineer, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason / Metamorpho.

What Is On the DC Universe Slate?

As Gunn and Safran revealed earlier this year, the initial DC Studios slate for "Gods and Monsters" will include movies for Superman: Legacy, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing, and The Authority. It will include the HBO Max television shows Waller, Booster Gold, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and an animated Creature Commandos series.

"A lot of people think it's going to be Marvel 2.0, and definitely I learned a lot of stuff at Marvel. I think that we have a lot of differences," Gunn explained at the time. "We are telling a big, huge, central story that is like Marvel, except for, I think that we're a lot more planned out than Marvel from the beginning because we've gotten a group of writers together to work that story out completely. But we're also creating a universe that is like Star Wars, where there's different times, different places, different things, or Game of Thrones, where characters are a little bit more morally complex."

Last month, Paris Hilton announced the birth of her second child -- and immediately attracted the attention of the internet. Her daughter's name is London -- which Disney fans immediately tied to London Tiption, a character played by Brenda Song on The Sweet Life of Zack and Cody. While London Hilton is far from the first person to be named after the English capital city, the connection here is more than just the name itself. London Tipton was based on Paris Hilton, who had risen to fame as a socialite and reality TV star around the time of Suite Life.

According to Hilton, though, it's just a coincidence. While she is aware of the character of London Tipton, the heiress says she has always wanted to name her child after London.

"I thought that was hilarious," Hilton told TheWrap. "I love that character and that show."

Still, she added, "I've always wanted to name my daughter 'London' since I was a teenager - I've always had this plan - because I love the name Paris and London together. I think it's just a coincidence but it's so funny, just seeing all the memes and everybody writing about - I think it's really a cute, fun story."

The Suite Life of Zack and Cody ran for 87 episodes over three seasons (plus some spinoffs and tie-ins), making it the third Disney Channel Original to have more than 65 episodes, after That's So Raven and Kim Possible. It starred Cole and Dylan Sprouse as twin brothers living a life of luxury in the luxurious Tipton Hotel, whose owner is the father of London Tipton.

Here's how the show's Wikipedia summarizes her character bio: "The only daughter of Wilfred Tipton, the owner of the Tipton Hotel. Hilton herself is one of a number of personalities that rose to fame in the early 2000s, who are now being reassessed. Britney Spears is another obvious example, with popular culture trying to reckon with how badly she was treated by the media and her management during the height of her fame, and how that might have contributed to the instability that she was so often judged for.

December is officially here, which means it's time to break out the holiday classics. Two movies that have stood the test of time are Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). Both films starred a young Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, a boy who accidentally gets left alone at Christmastime. In both films, Kevin's mom is played by Catherine O'Hara, the Emmy-winning actor known for Schitt's Creek, Beetlejuice, and more. Today, Culkin was honored with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, and O'Hara attended the ceremony.

"Home Alone was, is and always will be a beloved global sensation ... the reason families all over the world can't let a year go by without watching and loving Home Alone together is because of Macaulay Culkin," O'Hara shared during the ceremony (via People). "I know you worked really hard, I know you did, but you made acting look like the most natural thing in the world to do," she added of Culkin's "perfect performance."

Was Macaulay Culkin in Home Sweet Home Alone?

Disney and 20th Century Fox revisited the Home Alone franchise with Home Sweet Home Alone, which debuted exclusively on Disney+ back in 2021. While the movie did feature Devin Ratray's return as Kevin's brother, Buzz, the film did not involve Culkin.

"Hey y'all," Culkin wrote when the movie's trailer was originally released. "Just a heads up since I've been getting this question a lot today: I am NOT in the new Home Alone reboot. I wish all involved the best of luck though."

Universal resorts announced earlier this year that it would be developing an all-new attraction in Frisco, Texas that would be aimed at families with younger members, and today saw the park's name officially confirmed as Universal Kids Resort. No other details about the park have been released, such as when fans can expect the opening of Universal Kids Resort, but with it being almost a full year since the initial announcement of the attraction, any update about the destination is exciting for fans. The new park concept, set in a lush green landscape and featuring immersive themed lands, celebrates Universal's iconic brand of entertainment, humor, and innovation and brings to life its beloved characters and stories in ways that will wow even the youngest theme park goers.

"The proposed park will be designed to be more intimate and engaging for younger audiences and will be sized for a regional audience. It will be full of family-friendly attractions, interactive and playful shows, character meet and greets, unique merchandise, and fun food and beverage venues. Although smaller in size, it will still carry the same quality as Universal's other larger resort destinations.

"Part of 97 acres of land recently purchased by the company, the proposed park also has plans for an adjacent themed hotel and room for expansion. The entire area is intended to have a completely different look, feel, and scale than Universal's existing parks and will appeal to a new audience for the brand.

"Universal Parks & Resorts selected the city of Frisco, in North Texas, as the area for this new concept given the city's growing population and ability to attract businesses to the area. Dunkin's Holiday Menu Is Available Now

Currently available at Dunkin' locations is their holiday menu. This year's holiday menu sees the return of Dunkin's Cookie Butter Cold Brew. The drink was wildly popular last December, prompting it's return this year. The drink features Dunkin's ultra-smooth Cold Brew paired with notes of brown sugar and buttery cookies topped with Cookie Butter Cold Foam and cookie butter crumbles. It's joined this year by the all-new Spiced Cookie Coffee. Available iced or hot, the drink features brown sugar and vanilla flavor note paired with creamy oat milk to capture the essence of freshly baked oatmeal cookies in a cup.

Also coming back for the season are the Peppermint Mocha Signature Latte, which features a blend of decadent mocha and cool peppermint topped with whipped cream, mocha drizzle and extra dusting of hot chocolate powder, and the Toasted White Chocolate Signature Latte. That drink is loaded with white chocolate notes topped with whipped cream, caramel drizzle and cinnamon sugar. One Piece's anime officially brought the Wano Country arc to an end with its latest episode, and one awesome cosplay is helping the new Emperor of the Sea make a mark with Gear 5 Luffy! One Piece's Wano Country arc made some massive changes to the rest of the world as it crowned Luffy as one of the new Emperors of the Sea following his defeat of Kaido. But as the anime continues to explore the rest of the world outside of Wano, Luffy will find that there are even more changes than hge might have expected to see in action.

One Piece made some big changes to Luffy as well as through the fight with Kaido he was able to unlock the real core of his power within the Gum-Gum Fruit. It was revealed that his Devil Fruit was actually a lot stronger than initially expected as it was really a godly type of fruit that gave him the new, cartoonishly powered Gear 5 form. This also came with a dramatically new look for Luffy with this transformation, and now it's gotten an Emperor level cosplay from artist @snickerdoodlechan on Instagram. Check it out:

How to Watch One Piece

One Piece's anime has officially ended the Wano Country arc and has announced that its next major arc will kick off in the anime on January 7th next year. The Egghead Arc is the Straw Hats' first major island adventure after Wano, and it is also notably the first major arc of the Final Saga of Eiichiro Oda's original manga series. Which means that now is the perfect time to jump into the anime if you have been holding out during the four years of Wano arc episodes.

If you wanted to catch up with the One Piece anime ahead of the Egghead Arc, you can stream the entire series (along with an available English dub, specials, and movies) with Crunchyroll. They tease the One Piece anime as such, "Monkey D. Luffy refuses to let anyone or anything stand in the way of his quest to become the king of all pirates. Marvel star Sebastian Stan is going to be playing the younger version of former president Donald Trump in a new movie titled (appropriately enough) The Apprentice, from prize-winning Iranian filmmaker Ali Abbasi (HBO's The Last of Us, Holy Spider).

According to the report from Deadline, The Apprentice will focus on "Trump's efforts to build his real estate business in New York in the '70s and '80s, also digging into his relationship with infamous attorney Roy Cohn."

Sebastian Stan had a breakout run as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise - but he's also been stacking up acclaim for his non-MCU roles. Last year, Stan had a major hit on the small screen portraying infamous rock drummer Tommy Lee in Hulu's Pam & Tommy miniseries; he also scored points in the cult-horror genre with the Hulu thriller Fresh, showcasing a decidedly different (read: creepy) side of the actor's range.

Already the Internet is at work putting up side-by-side photo comparisons of Sebastian Stan and a younger Donald Trump, it's not hard to see how - with the right makeup and hair - Sebastian Stan could pull off the look, demeanor, and spirit of a young Trump with uncanny accuracy.

Other actors who have played Donald Trump (outside of Saturday Night Live parodies) include Portuguese actor Louis Ferreira (Breaking Bad) who starred in the 2005 ABC TV movie Trump Unauthorized. Oscar-nominated actor Brendan Gleeson (Gangs of New York, The Banshees of Inisherin) portrayed "President Trump" in Showtime's 2020 miniseries The Comey Rule. The Apprentice sounds like it will be the first project to be laser-focused on a specific period of Trump's younger life and a specific aspect of that time in his life.

Roy Cohn was an infamous lawyer and prosecutor from the 1950s-1980s, best known for being Senator Joseph McCarthy's chief counsel during the McCarthy Hearings of the '50s. By the 1970s, Cohn was known to be one of the most prominent "fixers" in NYC. He was known to be a mentor and legal counsel to Donald Trump early on in his career, helping him become one of the biggest real estate developers in the city. Cohn referred to Trump as his "best friend" and claimed they would speak on the phone over a dozen times a day at the height of their friendship. At the same time, Cohn was a controversial figure at the center of business, politics, sports, and the underworld, representing prominent mafia figures like John Gotti, Carmine Galante, and Fat Tony Salerno. Those latter associations have raised a lot of questions about how Trump allegedly secured his real estate and construction deals - and it will be interesting to see how The Apprentice delves into all that.

Advertisers are leaving X (the social network previously known as Twitter) in droves after Elon Musk shared an anti-Semitic stance on on the platform earlier this month. In response to those advertisers, Musk isn't mincing his words. The magnate took to a recent event to share his message to any advertiser leaving the platform, "Go f-ck yourself." Musk made the comments at the New York Times' Dealbook Summit after being asked what his message to the business leaders and Disney chief Bob Iger, in particular, would be.

"Don't advertise. No [I don't want them to advertise,]" Musk said during the panel. "Is somebody going to try and blackmail me with advertising? Is someone trying to blackmail me with money? Go f-ck yourself. Is that clear? I hope it is."

Musk then jokingly asked if Iger was sitting in the audience given he was also involved with the event. The Disney boss touched on the controversy earlier in the day, saying X was not a company Disney wanted to be associated with.

"I have a lot of respect for Elon and what he has accomplished," Iger clarified. "We know that Elon is larger than life in many respects, and that his name is very much connected to the companies he founded or owns. By him taking the position he took in a public manner, we felt that the association was not necessarily a positive one for us and we decided we would pull our advertising.

During his appearance at the summit, Iger also criticized some of the decision making by his predecessor/successor Bob Chapek. "I was disappointed in what I was seeing in the transition period and while I was out," Iger added (via the Times). He added, "I worked hard at distancing myself from it."

In addition to Disney, other companies to have pulled their advertising from the service include Apple, NBCUniversal, IBM, Oracle, and Comcast.

According to a report from last month, X/Twitter is now worth approximately $19 billion, or less than half of the $45 billion Musk ended up paying for the service.

After a positive market test earlier this year, Subway is making its new footlong cookie a permanent addition to its menu in the coming months. Wednesday, Subway officials revealed the cookie will make a comeback in select markets next week before a national release after the first of the year.

On December 4th, free footlong cookes will be available in Chicago (604 S Wabash Ave., Suite), Dallas (222 Commerce Street, Suite 150), Miami (2795 Collins Ave.), and New York City (545 8 Ave.) After the free cookie promotion in support of National Cookie Day, it will then go dormannt until the calendar reads 2024 after which it'll be added as a permanent menu item.

"The overwhelming response we received from fans around the country last year let us know that we needed to make the footlong cookie a permanent addition to our menu," Paul Fabre, Senior Vice President, Culinary and Innovation, said of the addition in a press release. "At Cookieway this year, our guests will get a sneak peek of an even better footlong cookie: thick, gooey, packed with chocolate chips and served warm - right out of the oven. It's the perfect pairing with your favorite footlong sub and may even become your favorite footlong after the first bite."

TODAY confirmed earlier this month that the restaurant was working with Cinnabon on a footlong churro. At the time, a viral TikTok video showed the chain testing the churros and cookies in addition to a footlong pretzel. It has yet to be seen if the churros or pretzels will be added as permanent items.

"As part of Subway's transformation journey, the brand is always testing new ingredients and menu items to deliver better food and a better guest experience," a Subway spokesperson told the news show. "These and other items have been in development for over a year and are being tested at select locations across the U.S."

Shannen Doherty fought and beat breast cancer a while back, but the Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed alum revealed in 2020 that her cancer had returned. This upcoming February will mark four years since Doherty appeared on Good Morning America and revealed she had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, explaining that she had been living privately with the diagnosis for about a year. After years of fighting, Doherty has provided a new update, sharing that the cancer has now spread to her bones.

"I don't want to die," Doherty told People shortly before Thanksgiving. "I'm not done with living. I'm not done with loving. I'm not done with creating. I'm not done with hopefully changing things for the better," she added with a smile. "I'm just not - I'm not done."

"People just assume that it means you can't walk, you can't eat, you can't work. They put you out to pasture at a very early age -'You're done, you're retired,' and we're not," Doherty explained of having cancer. "We're vibrant, and we have such a different outlook on life. We are people who want to work and embrace life and keep moving forward."

"My greatest memory is yet to come," she added. "I pray. I wake up and go to bed thanking God, praying for the things that matter to me without asking for too much. It connects me to a higher power and spirituality. My faith is my mantra."

"I know it sounds cheesy and crazy, but you're just more aware of everything, and you feel so blessed. We're the people who want to work the most, because we're just so grateful for every second, every hour, every day we get to be here," she added.

Doherty, who is 52, plans to talk more about her eight-year journey with cancer on her upcoming memoir-style podcast, Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty, which debuts on iHeartRadio on December 6th. In addition to talking about her health, Doherty plans to share details of her career in addition to her relationships, and more highlights from her life.

"I'd rather people hear it from me," Doherty told Good Morning America back in 2020. "I don't want it to be twisted. I don't want it to be a court document. I want it to be real and authentic and I want to control the narrative. I want people to know from me."

Mean Girls is heading to theaters in 2024, and the new adaptation is a musical movie based on the Broadway show that was based on the 2004 movie that was based on the book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. The new film is being released on January 12th, which is the same day a Mean Girls Experience is heading to Los Angeles. The same pop-up will also open in New York on January 19th. The mystery of the Lake City Quiet Pills website is one that has kept the internet guessing for years -- and now it might be just a touch harder to research. According to a post on Reddit, the current owner of the site has asked to be excluded from the Internet Wayback Machine on Archive.org, meaning that any secrets potentially buried in older versions of the website are now likely lost to time. This comes not long after a reported hack and an ominous notification sent to users.

Since the site had already been active for years before it became internet-famous, and since there were messages found buried in the site's metadata on a handful of occasions, internet detectives have been exploring old backups of the site on the Internet Archive for years. It's unlikely that anything of substance was still hidden away there, but the elimination of the Wayback Machine as a tool ties off potential investigators from a primary source not otherwise available to them.

"Lake City Quiet Pills" is supposedly a colloquialism for bullets (named for an ammunition factory in Missouri). It gained internet notoriety in connection with "Milo," supposedly a hitman who ran the site, along with an image-hosting board used primarily for scantily clad photos of women of barely-legal age. Another user posted a claim that Milo, formerly a moderator for Reddit's since-banned r/jailbait subreddit, had died suddenly, which led to curious users digging into the Lake City Quiet Pills site.

In the years since, there has been a lot of disagreement. Was it all some kind of elaborate hoax or ARG? Was Milo hiring out assassins? Or was it somewhere in the middle, where the site was facilitating some kid of shady activity but it was being greatly overstated by its staff? That last one seems to be the most popular theory.

Some have speculated that Lake City Quiet Pills was tied to the assassination of Hamas officer Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in January 2010. There is virtually no credibility to that allegation, but it has persisted due to an the assassination's timing lining up with cryptic plans for a "memorial party" for Milo. And as with any Reddit mystery or ARG, it's extremely difficult to get people to let go of the more sensational possibilities in favor of a more mundane explanation that has more evidence behind it.

Starbucks is making the holidays just a little bit merrier, at least in terms of its drinks. On Tuesday, the coffee brand announced the launch of four new Holiday Cold Foam flavors, each inspired by the flavors of fan favorite Starbucks holiday beverages. The new cold foams combine the festive flavors with the brand's signature vanilla sweet cream to top off any drink. Customers will be able to add a holiday cold foam to any cold beverage for an additional charge for a limited time throughout the holiday season.

Jujutsu Kaisen first introduced Yuta Okkotsu with the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, and one awesome cosplay is helping to highlight just how strong the Special Grade can really be! Before Jujutsu Kaisen got its full publication, series creator Gege Akutami had a short limited series that ended up being turned into a prequel for the main series that released later. This special four chapter prequel introduced fans to its main character, Yuta, who ended up being replaced by Yuji Itadori when the main series released a few years later. But as fans saw, Yuta was brought back in full in a much stronger way than ever before.

It's likely going to be a bit longer before Yuta returns in the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, but fans are getting ready for this big comeback by keeping the character alive. As one of the few Special Grade level sorcerers who has the ability to be on par with someone like Satoru Gojo, Yuta's likely going to be a key character for whatever endgame plans that Akutami might have set for the series overall. How to Watch Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is now streaming on Crunchyroll along with the first two seasons of the anime. They begin to tease Jujutsu Kaisen 0 as such, "When they were children, Rika Orimoto was killed in a traffic accident right before the eyes of her close friend, Yuta Okkotsu. 'It's a promise. When we both grow up, we'll get married.' Rika became an apparition, and Yuta longed for his own death after suffering under her curse, but the greatest Jujutsu sorcerer, Satoru Gojo, welcomed him into Jujutsu High. There Yuta meets his classmates, Maki Zen'in, Toge Inumaki, and Panda, and finally finds his own determination. 'I want the confidence to say it's okay that I'm alive!' 'While I'm at Jujutsu High, I'll break Rika-chan's curse.'"

The synopsis continues with, "Meanwhile, the vile curse user, Suguru Geto, who was expelled from the school for massacring ordinary people, appears before Yuta and the others. The McRib is back. Despite going on a farewell tour just over 12 months ago, the beloved McDonald's item is already back at certain locations across the country. Though it isn't as wide of a release as it typically is, many major markets are selling the item on a limited-time basis as the calendar moves into the holidays.

So far the McRib has been spotted in San Antonio and Houston, TX; South Bend, IN; Toronto, ON; and Springfield, IL to name a few. McDonald's has yet to comment on the sandwich's return.

Why did the McRib leave?

The McRib has usually been a seasonal item of late, but when the fast-food joint announced the sandwich's return last year, peculiar verbiage was seen on the McDonald's site hinting at it being the last year it would be available.

"The McRib is back! It starts with seasoned boneless pork dipped in a tangy BBQ sauce, topped with slivered onions and dill pickles, all served on a toasted homestyle bun," the chain's website read at the time. "When everything combines you have BBQ pork sandwich perfection. Get one while you can because this is the McRib Farewell Tour."

How long is the McRib available?

Last year, the McRib was available for just about a month, which means it's likely the sandwich will be available--at participating locations, at least--through most of November and into December.

The McRib had its first "farewell tour" back in 2005 when it was removed from its spot as a permanent item on McDonald's menus. Since then, it's been a seasonal release. Despite the goodbyes fans said last year, it looks like it's back for at least one more go-around before its next farewell tour.

Taco Bell's Coin Drop game is coming back in a big way. Tuesday, the taco chain announced the virtual return of its countertop fundraising effort, allowing people to play the game through the Taco Bell mobile app. The return of the game was announced in conjunction with Giving Tuesday, with Taco Bell encouraging its customers to give to the Taco Bell Foundation and the Live Mas Scholarship fund. The restaurant did a similar promotion in July, which raised over $200,000 for the charities.

This time around, the promotion lasts from Tuesday, November 28th to Monday, December 11th. Each time somebody rounds up their order total in the app, they'll be given a digital "coin" to use in the game. The game will then give players the chance to win free cinnamon twists, a free taco, or a free bean burrito.

"We've seen so much success in meeting our fans where they are - from launching the Taco Lover's Pass to the in-app voting experience and we're excited to introduce this digital iteration of Coin Drop. This game offers fans a new way to win and give back, all at their fingertips with the Taco Bell app," Taco Bell chief digital officer Dane Mathews offered in a press release earlier this year. "Many of our fans have fond memories of playing the original Coin Drop at their local Taco Bell - so it only made sense that we bring the game back for our Rewards members to transport customers back in time and give them another shot at winning."

With Thanksgiving over, the holiday season is in full swing which of course means Christmas movies are a major part of many people's entertainment plans -- including the beloved Will Ferrell movie, Elf. This year, the iconic film turns 20 and to celebrate, HelloFresh is teaming up with Warner Bros. Discovery Consumer Products to help fans of the film get in the spirit with a meal kit that lets them indulge in Buddy the Elf's favorite meal. Merriam-Webster, publisher of the ubiquitous dictionary, has named its word of the year for 2023: "authentic." While Merriam-Webster says in its announcement that word of the year "authentic" is a "high-volume lookup" every year, 2023 saw a "substantial increase" driven by, in the publisher's estimation, the discourse around "AI, celebrity culture, identity, and social media." While "being authentic" is typically looked upon favorably, the precise meaning of "authentic" is often elusive. Some definitions from Merriam-Webster for 2023's word of the year include "not false or imitation" and "true to one's own personality, spirit, or character." The former usage likely applied to this year's contentious conversations around AI technology, which proved to be a significant sticking point in two Hollywood strikes. The latter applies more to an individual's sense of identity and persona, both online and off, and how well celebrities like Taylor Swift can convince their fans and critics that they are privately the same person they appear to be in public.

As word of the year, "Authentic" is often used to modify words like "cuisine" and "dish" to imply that a food from a culture is prepared as members of that culture would prepare it. It is also applied to "self" and "voice" to say that someone is acting in a manner that is honest and true to their conception of themself. As Merriam-Webster points out in its post, the concept of being "authentic" has been used in discussions about how people behave on social media, with upstart social media platform BeReal basing itself entirely on capturing "authentic" experiences. Meanwhile, AI advancements and the improving technology around deepfakes make telling the difference between what is fake and what is "authentic" increasingly difficult.

What is Merriam-Webster's Word of the Year 2023?

Merriam-Webster's 2023 word of the year is "authentic." However, several others were considered for word of the year as they too helped the year. Those word of the year runners-up are as follows:

• "Rizz," internet-driven slang only added to the dictionary in September. It can mean "romantic appeal or charm" as a noun or "to charm or seduce" as a verb.
• "Deepfake," a word that seems to go hand-in-hand with "authentic." Merriam-Webster defines it as "an image or recording that has been convincingly altered and manipulated to misrepresent someone as doing or saying something that was not actually done or said."
• "Coronation," a synonym of "crowning," likely makes it on the list thanks to the coronation of King Charles III in May.
• "Dystopian," a term typically used to describe a theoretical future, meaning "of, relating to, or being an imagined world or society in which people lead dehumanized, fearful lives."
• "EGOT" is the achievement of winning an Emmy, the Grammy, the Oscar, and the Tony award. The television series 30 Rock popularized the term by making it a plot point in its 2008 season, and searches for the word spiked when Viola Davis achieved EGOT status in February.
• Dictionary searches for "X" spiked after Elon Musk announced he'd rebrand social media platform Twitter as X in July. The single-letter word has many possible meanings, and Musk hasn't bothered to explain which one he's trying to evoke with the new branding.
• "Implode" is the less commonly used opposite of "explode." To implode, in its most literal definition, is "to burst inward," "collapse inward," or "undergo violent compression." Both "implode" and "implosion," were searched frequently as the story Titan submersible unfolded earlier this year. The word "submersible" also saw a significant increase in searches.
• The word "doppelg?nger," used primarily to describe someone's lookalike, spiked around multiple two crime stories this year, one in New York and the other in Germany, involving a person trying to murder someone they felt was their doppelg?nger, as well as a story about two doppelg?ngers who both play minor league baseball but were proven unrelated and the release of the Naomi Klein book Doppelg?nger: A Trip Into the Mirror World.
• "Covenant" can mean "a formal, solemn, and binding agreement" or "a written agreement or promise." It is most commonly used in Judeo-Christian religious contexts because it frequently appears in English translations of the Bible. Searches spike this year around the shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville in March, the release of Guy Ritchie's The Covenant in April, and Abraham Verghese's novel The Covenant of Water being chosen for Oprah's Book Club in May.
• "Indict" means "to charge with a crime by the finding or presentment of a jury (such as a grand jury) in due form of law." • The word "elemental" can have many meanings, but the one most likely relevant to its spike this year is its oldest, which is related to the word "element," which refers to "any of the four substances air, water, fire, and earth formerly believed to compose the physical universe." That's because of the release of Pixar's latest animated feature film, Elemental, which anthropomorphizes those four classical elements.
• "Kibbutz" is a word that most people outside of Israel are unfamiliar with. It refers to a "communal farm or settlement" in the country. Searches spiked around the October 7th attacks in Israel, as Hamas targeted people living in kibbutzim.
• "Deadname" can be used as a noun or a verb. As the former, it means "the name that a transgender person was given at birth and no longer uses upon transitioning." As a verb, it means to refer to a transgender person by their deadname. Searches for "deadname" increased in March as "Parental Rights" bills were discussed in several states. While the word does not appear in the bills themselves, the topic of deadnaming was discussed in much of the media coverage surrounding them.

What is Merriam-Webster's Word of the Year?

Merriam-Webster's word of the year is chosen annually as the word that best represents the year that was. The publisher uses search traffic to its dictionary's website to help in determining what words were most relevant over the past several months.

Merriam-Webster has been choosing a "word of the year" since 2003 when it picked "democracy." More recent picks include "gaslighting" in 2022, "vaccine" in 2021, "pandemic" in 2020, and "they" in 2019.

Wonka is headed to theaters in just a couple of weeks but fans can start celebrating the magic of the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures movie now thanks to IHOP. The restaurant chain announced on Monday their new, limited time menu inspired by Wonka and it has a little something for everyone on it -- including purple pancakes.

Now, fans will be able to experience the official concert movie of the tour from the comfort of their own home. On Monday, Swift took to Twitter to announce that Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour will be available to rent on Digital on Wednesday, December 13th. This digital release of the film, which is being handled by Universal Pictures, will be available on platforms like Prime Video, Apple, Vudu, XFinity, and YouTube & Google TV. The suggested retail price for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour will be $19.89 -- a reference to the year Swift was born, as well as her fifth album 1989.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour's home release will include three bonus songs that were cut from time from the theatrical version: Speak Now (Taylor's Version)'s "Long Live", 1989 (Taylor's Version)'s "Wildest Dreams", and Lover's "The Archer."

Bruce Willis's family continues to share intimate moments with the beloved actor, and to talk openly about his condition, in social media posts following his diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). While his family have asked for privacy from the press, his children have been game to update the public periodically, usually just with fairly vague comments about how nice it is to spend time with the star on his good days. Willis retired from acting in 2022, after his family announced that he had been diagnosed with aphasia, a neurological condition that impacts language and memory, and leads to dementia.

Willis has appeared in movies that earn hundreds of millions of dollars, and right up until his retirement, rumors persisted that he could return for another outing as John McClane, either as the main character or as the narrator in an origin story. Still, most of the top portion of Willis's IMDb page are movies where he was able to do a few days' work and not remember too many lines. This was apparently a result of Willis struggling with memory and communication skills as a result of the early stages of aphasia.

"He is the same, which I think in this regard I've learned is the best thing you can ask for. I see love when I'm with him," Willis's daughter Tallulah told The Drew Barrymore Show. "And it's my dad and he loves me, which is really special."

As of Monday, November 27th, The Eras Tour movie has grossed more than $250 million at the global box office, with $178.2 million domestically, and $71.8 million internationally.

Elliot Silverstein, a beloved director whose work included Cat Ballou, The Car, and multiple episodes of The Twilight Zone, has passed away at the age of 96. The news was confirmed via a statement from his family, revealing that he passed away on Friday, November 23rd in Los Angeles. Born on August 3, 1927 in Boston, Massachusetts, Silverstein attended Yale University to pursue directing, ultimately working on multiple productions at Brandeis University. His work then included productions of Omnibus, the educational series that aired in the 1950s, as well as a short-lived Broadway production of Maybe Tuesday.

Silverstein then pivoted towards episodic television, working on The U.S. Steel Hour, Suspicion, The Further Adventures of Ellery Queen, Route 66, Have Gun -- Will Travel, Naked City, Dr. Kildare, and The Defenders. He helmed four episodes of the original run of The Twilight Zone -- 1961's "The Obsolete Man" and "The Passerby", 1962's "The Trade-Ins", and 1964's "Spur of the Moment". His work on the series, and particularly on "The Obsolete Man", inspired him to push the Directors Guild of America to create their Bill of Creative Rights. The bill included a number of provisions that have impacted the industry ever since, including the official definition of a Director's Cut.

"I'm very proud of the legacy," Silverstein explained in a 2018 interview with NoFilmSchool. "I think it really defined, to a very large extent, what the Director's Guild of America is, apart from its role as a trade union. I am proud of having left the creative rights concept and the specifics associated with it. I'm very proud of that. I don't know how to describe it, but early on, the corporate influence on a given piece of work was much stronger than it is now. Directors had very few defined rights to protect the work. For instance, the initial version of the contract between directors and producers read something like this, "The director shall have the right to view," the word "view" was important, "the first rough cut," whatever that was, "and to make any suggestions he had to the associate producer," whoever that was. The roles have changed since those days. That tells you that it was further down the line. He didn't have firsthand control. My first task was to establish what suggestions meant and who the associate producer was and why it'd have to be the associate producer instead of the producer and why the director didn't have primary influence over the material that they directed, subject only to the labor laws, which gave the corporation ultimate control."

Silverstein went on to direct Cat Ballou, the 1965 Western led by Lee Marvin and Jane Fonda, which ultimately helped Marvin score an Oscar for Best Actor. His later work included 1967's The Happening, and 1977's The Car. Before retiring, he directed episodes of Picket Fences and Tales From the Crypt.

Silverstein was married three times, and was briefly the stepfather of singer and actor David Cassidy.

Wendy's is trying to shake up the status quo. As the ever-growing Chicken Sandwich and Chicken Nugget Wars continue to rage on in the land of fast food, the burger joint is starting to roll out its own version of a classic chicken dish. Participating Wendy's locations in Canada will soon offer Chicken Strips and French Toast Sticks, a meal that's effectively serving as the chain's take on Chicken and Waffles.

According to a new report from ChewBoom, the Chicken Strips and French Toast Sticks meal will include two chicken tenders and three French Toast Sticks; the meal also includes a side of syrup for dipping. Unfortunately for those stateside, this items appears to be available only through a test run at participating Canadian Wendy's locations.

What else is new at Wendy's?

Earlier this month, the chain announced the return of its Peppermint Frosty, a new holiday staple for the restaurant. This is the second year the Peppermint Frosty is heading back to stores, having been first introduced during last year's holiday season.

"The Peppermint Frosty is our latest flavor innovation on the iconic Wendy's Frosty that fans have come to know and love for over 50 years," John Li, Vice President of Culinary Innovation for the Wendy's Company, said at the time. "It's the classic thick and creamy Frosty that our fans crave with bursts of fresh peppermint - every sweet bite will put you in the holiday spirit."

"Folks enjoyed the strawberry Frosty enough that we knew it was important to get after another flavor and one that would tie well with the holidays," Wendy's chief marketer Carl Loredo explained. "Peppermint is amazing, and it's a great way to ring in the holiday season."

He added, "It's an accelerated path, but it's something we've been working on for a few years. [Peppermint] was a flavor that we knew consumers liked -- ultimately, the commercialization piece [was an aspect] we needed to finalize quickly, but it's been something we had our minds."

Artificial intelligence is getting its time to shine, for better or for worse. The usage of AI by Hollywood studios was a major sticking point in the months-long actors' strike, and lawsuits regarding the ownership of AI-created materials have been making their way through the justice system. When it comes to science, the usage of AI appears to be much less nefarious, with Chinese scientists using the technology to power a problem-solving robot.

A new study recently published in Nature Synthesis details the steps taken for the aforementioned robot to come up with a process to make oxygen out of materials readily available on Mars. Using meteorites scientists think come from the Red Planet, the "robotic chemist" has able to create the primary element necessary for human life.

"Oxygen supply must be the top priority for any human activity on Mars, because rocket propellants and life support systems consume substantial amounts of oxygen, which cannot be replenished from the Martian atmosphere," the study reads in part. "Fortunately, recent evidence of water activity has raised the prospect of large-scale oxygen production on the planet through solar-power-driven electrochemical water oxidation processes using an oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst. Using extraterrestrial catalysts developed from local materials to drive oxygen production allows for the on-site production of fuel and oxygen on Mars, which represents a low-hanging fruit in the exploration of this planet."

The ability to get to Mars is one of the biggest goals for those hoping to further explore the solar system. NASA even launched a test earlier this summer that simulated living in a "BioDome" on our cosmic neighbor.

"The simulation will allow us to collect cognitive and physical performance data to give us more insight into the potential impacts of long-duration missions to Mars on crew health and performance," CHAPEA principal investigator Grace Douglas said of the mission earlier this year. "Ultimately, this information will help NASA make informed decisions to design and plan for a successful human mission to Mars."

Interestingly, this isn't the first Eggo product Nestle, the parent company of Coffee Mate has released. The company also recently announced Nestle Sensations Eggo Maple Waffle Flavored Milk, a flavored milk that features notes of toasty waffles, warm butter and sweet maple syrup. It will also hit store shelves in January 2024.

Coffee Mate Has Another New Creamer Debuting In January

Also coming in January is Coffee Mate's Mean Girls Pink Frosting Flavored Creamer inspired by the Paramount Pictures comedy. According to the brand, the new creamer channels all the flavors of "a cake filled with rainbows and smiles". It's also pink which means that on Wednesdays when you're wearing pink, you can be drinking pink, too.

"We're not a regular creamer; we're a cool creamer. One of Disneyland's most popular rides was temporarily shuttered Sunday afternoon due to one particularly unruly guest. According to a report from TMZ, a streaker stripped down to nothing during a standard trip on the "It's a Small World" ride. He was subsequently removed from the attraction and removed from the premises of the amusement park.

Though the tabloid initially reported the streaker hopped off the ride while it was stopped for unknown reasons, follow-up reporting from Deadline suggests the ride was still moving when he managed to hop off the ride to a nearby platform. The trade says the ride was then stopped by operators and the streaker was eventually apprehended and booked by the Anaheim Police Department.

Streaker on it's a small world in Disneyland stripped in the ride and began walking around. He has been escorted naked from the park.

It's said "It's a Small World" was subsequently shut down for an hour or so, which allowed operators and Disneyland officials to inspect the ride before starting it back up.

The ride in and of itself is nothing short of iconic, with the ride's theme sing having been added to the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry last year.

"The National Recording Registry reflects the diverse music and voices that have shaped our nation's history and culture through recorded sound," Librarian of Congress spokesperson Carla Hayden said at the time. "The national library is proud to help preserve these recordings, and we welcome the public's input. We received about 1,000 public nominations this year for recordings to add to the registry."

It's suggested (via TIME) "It's a Small World" is one of the most-played songs ever recorded, with a reported 50 million-plus plays.

"Like many songs, 'It's A Small World' has a verse and a chorus. One thing which makes this song particularly 'catchy' is that the verse and chorus work in counterpoint to each other," Robert Sherman Jr. once explained to SongFacts. "This means that you can play the same chords over and over again, but with different melodies. The repetitive, yet varied pattern tricks your mind into absorbing the work without it becoming tiresome to your ear." Playfully, Sherman added: "There are many who would disagree with this, however!"

There's no word on what potential charges the streaker will face.

Attack on Titan's anime run came to an end earlier this Fall after ten long years, and one awesome cosplay is helping to recreate one of the final episode's most infamous moments with Mikasa Ackerman and Eren Yeager's big kiss! But ultimately that's not how it all worked out as Eren wanted Mikasa to find new love and live long after this war (though a part of him admitted he wanted to be a part of that future), and Mikasa left her feelings for Eren with him as when she dealt the final blow, she delivered an emotional kiss to his then separated head right after. How to Watch Attack on Titan's Final Episode

Running for 85 minutes in total and adapting the final chapters of Hajime Isayama's original manga, Crunchyroll and Hulu are now streaming Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 2 in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS and Southeast Asia. You can catch up with Attack on Titan's entire anime run with Crunchyroll too if you wanted to rewatch the ten years worth of materials from the very beginning.

As for what to expect from the final episode of the anime itself (which released earlier this Fall), Crunchyoll teases Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 2 as such, "Eren, as the Founding Titan, advances on Fort Salta with countless other Titans. Appearing before the refugees, who stand on the brink of despair, are Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Conny, Reiner, Pieck, and Levi, who narrowly escaped from the rumbling. The battle between former comrades and childhood friends with Eren concludes here."

As NASA continues to push the boundaries of space exploration, the space agency recently announced a major accomplishment in communication across the cosmos. NASA's JPL recently revealed its Deep Space Optical Communications (DSOC) project was able to beam light 10 million miles through space.

"Achieving first light is one of many critical DSOC milestones in the coming months, paving the way toward higher-data-rate communications capable of sending scientific information, high-definition imagery, and streaming video in support of humanity's next giant leap: sending humans to Mars," Trudy Kortes, director of Technology Demonstrations for the Space Technology Mission Directorate, said in a press release.

"Tuesday morning's test was the first to fully incorporate the ground assets and flight transceiver, requiring the DSOC and Psyche operations teams to work in tandem," added Meera Srinivasan, operations lead for DSOC at JPL. "It was a formidable challenge, and we have a lot more work to do, but for a short time, we were able to transmit, receive, and decode some data."

The distance the light was broadcast over is equal to the amount of over 40 times the distance between the moon and Earth. According to NASA, such a broadcast takes about 20 seconds to travel the staggering distance.

"Achieving first light is a tremendous achievement. The ground systems successfully detected the deep space laser photons from DSOC's flight transceiver aboard Psyche," continued Abi Biswas, project technologist for DSOC at JPL. "And we were also able to send some data, meaning we were able to exchange 'bits of light' from and to deep space."

The news broke today that Marty Krofft, one half of the sibling duo known for creating iconic children's television programming, passed away at age 86. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kroftt died on Saturday, November 25th, in Los Angeles. Kroftt's family shared the news, revealing he died of kidney failure. Marty and his brother, Sid, hailed from Montreal, Canada, and were known for shows such as The Banana Splits Adventure Hour, H.R. Pufnstuf, and Land of the Lost.

The Krofft brothers were puppeteers who broke into television when they were brought in by NBC to design the costumes for The Banana Splits Adventure Hour. They designed the rock band characters Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper, and Snorky. The series ran for two years, but the beloved characters have continued to live on, and can still be seen in reruns.

In 1969, the duo created H.R. Pufnstuf, a fantastical series that followed a shipwrecked boy named Jimmy (Jack Wild) and his adventures alongside Mayor H.R. Pufnstuf (Lennie Weinrib) as they attempted to evade the evil Witchiepoo (Billie Hayes) as she tried to steal Jimmy's magic flute. H.R. Pufnstuf ran for 17 episodes and became another staple among kids in addition to college students, who enjoyed the show's psychedelic style. In fact, the series sparked many whispers that the Krofft brothers were on drugs when making the show. However, Marty denied those rumors.

"You can't do a show stoned," he told THR in 2016. "We screwed with every kid's mind ... There's a Krofft look - the colors. There's an edge. Disney doesn't have an edge."

After Pufnstuf, the Kroffts went on to make The Bugaloos (1970-1972), Lidsville (1971-1973), Sigmund and the Sea Monsters (1973-1975) and Land of the Lost (1974-1976). In addition to their shows geared toward kids, the Krofft brothers also developed multiple variety shows for TV, including The Brady Bunch Variety Hour (1976-1977), Donny and Marie (1975-1979), The Bay City Rollers Show (1978-1979), and Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters (1980-1982). Krofft was still working in recent years, creating the Nickelodeon series, Mutt & Stuff, which ran for 74 episodes from 2015 to 2017.

Marty Krofft is survived by his brothers, Harry and Sid; daughters Deanna, Kristina, and Kendra; grandchildren Taylor, Karson, Griffin, Georgia, and Drake; and great-grandchild Maddox. He was married to German model and actor Christa Speck from 1965 until her death in 2013. Our thoughts go out to the Krofft family at this difficult time.

Liquid Death, the brand best known for canning water, is changing the name of one of its most popular products. Saturday, Liquid Death revealed its half-ice tea, half-lemonade will no longer be called an Armless Palmer, a riff of the classic Arnold Palmer beverage. Now, the drink will go by the name "Dead Billionaire," something more in line with the overall Liquid Death brand.

According to a social media post made by the company, the rights holders to the "Arnold Palmer" trademark threatened a lengthy legal battle regarding Liquid Death's "Armless Palmer" drink.

"If you like our Armless Palmer tea/lemonade, then you are going to LOVE our new Dead Billionaire tea/lemonade. Why? Because it's the EXACT same thing, only now it has a way cooler name that won't require us to fight a senseless legal battle with a large enterprise who sent us a letter saying we can't use the word 'Palmer' and who are also partnered with a giant iced tea corporation. Both of whom have far more $$$ to burn on legal fees than we do," the company said in its statement.

It added, "Our new Dead Billionaire cans have started to trickle out on Amazon and will begin hitting retail shelves in the spring. Experts are predicting potential brawls in retailers as customers fight over remaining Armless Palmer cans before they become extinct forever and reselling as collectors items for billions of dollars. ??"

Palmer, the late legendary golfer, is thought to have been one of the first to combine unsweetened tea and lemonade on the pro golf circuit in the 1960s and his likeness has been synonymous with the drink since. The most popular version of the drink has been bottled and canned by Arizona Beverage Company. That version has been available for purchase since 2002.

Steve-O is known for pulling crazy stunts, and his latest special, Steve-O's Bucket List, is no exception. The Jackass star's latest venture sees him crossing off extreme items on his bucket list. Steve-O may have a reputation for doing some pretty shocking things, but he's also known for something a little more wholesome: a love for animals. ComicBook.com recently had the chance to chat with Steve-O, and we asked if there were any organizations he wanted to shout out, and the star revealed he has plans to open his own animal sanctuary.

"What do we want to shout out, honey?" Steve-O asked fianc?e, Lux Wright. "Safe House Survivors. They're the three women that are in China doing all of the frontline, saving all the dogs," Wright chimed in.

"I mean, what I want to shout out is the fact that Lux and I have finally purchased our big property for opening our animal sanctuary," Steve-O added. "But yeah, so we've got a big ranch in Tennessee. We call it The Radical Ranch."

"We don't know yet," he added when asked if people can come visit the ranch. "We don't know. For all we know, it might be an off grid, bug out doomsday prepper spot with a bunch of animals where we hide out and live in a bunker. But it also might be really helpful to bring people to bring in revenue to help pay for everything. One way or another, the animals come first and the involvement of people is very much a question mark."

KSI is currently in the process of appealing his loss against Tommy Fury. Unfortunately, his fans will need to wait until December for a decision on this appeal. Beyond this though, many are wondering what's next for KSI and influencer boxing. The fight everyone wants to see is Jake Paul vs KSI, but it seems like that if that is ever going to happen, it is not going to happen anytime soon. In fact, since the Tommy Fury fight, KSI has suggested he may be done with influencer boxing, but a potential new rumor suggests otherwise.

According to Mams Taylor, "there's another big, big fight," for KSI, which has prompted many to ponder if the YouTuber is stepping into the ring with Conor McGregor. Because who else could this be referring to? It's not Logan Paul. It's not Jake Paul. It's probably not Dillon Danis. It could be a Tommy Fury rematch, but probably not. There aren't many names left that could step into the boxing ring with KSI that also fit the bill of "big, big fight."

Unfortunately, right now, all we have is speculation. And it's worth noting it's unclear how much of this is tease from Mams Taylor versus conjecture and speculation. It could very well be nothing more than this, but if something is happening behind the scenes, Taylor would be someone to know. Yet again, all of this does seem to contradict the aforementioned and recent statement from KSI where he said he wanted to just relax, at least for a bit.

"I feel like I did what I wanted to do at the end of the day. I was this kid, a YouTuber, who had no right to be in the ring with Tommy Fury, and I showed the world that if you believe in yourself and work hard you can literally do whatever you want."

Adding to this, when asked what he was doing next, KSI said he was planning on just relaxing. This isn't a retirement announcement, but this was only a few weeks ago, so it's hard to imagine he's already lined up his next opponent.

Comedian Tiffany Haddish was arrested in Beverly Hills for DUI. TMZ reports the police were called to a vehicle that had stopped on Beverly Drive early Friday morning around 5:45 a.m., where they allegedly found Haddish slumped over behind the wheel while the car was still running. Images captured by the outlet show Haddish in handcuffs and being taken to the back of a police car peacefully. The actress will reportedly be cited for a DUI and released later in the day Friday. Before her arrest, Haddish had a Thanksgiving Day appearance at the famed Laugh Factory in West Hollywood for its 43rd annual free Thanksgiving feast.

Haddish was previously arrested in Atlanta for DUI in January 2022. She was again reportedly found asleep behind the wheel of a car, and when the Peachtree City Police Department responded, they reportedly found her pulling the car into a neighborhood. Her charges from the 2022 arrest were DUI and improper stopping on a roadway, and court documents state she's set to go to court on December 4th.

Tiffany Haddish gets expanded role in Solar Opposites Season 4

August saw the Season 4 release of Hulu's Solar Opposites, and Tiffany Haddish's role was one that got even more extended screen time. Haddish voices Aisha, the AI computer that runs the ship, who also had an entire episode dedicated to her. Ahead of the Season 4 premiere, producer Sydney Ryan chatted with ComicBook.com over email about Aisha's expanded role and solo adventure.

"Aisha is such a big part of the Solar's lives that it just made sense to involve her character more this season," Ryan said. "Tiffany Haddish does an incredible and hilarious job of bringing her to life. The writers wanted to see what would happen if we focused a whole story on this character who usually exists just as a talking orb in the ship. Mike [McMahan] talked about it being like this book he likes called The Ship Who Sang, which was about a spaceship's computer that always falls in love with its captains. Josh Bycel wrote that episode and it came out so smart and sweet, it's a highlight of the season for me - like our own little Before Sunrise story but with a blue floating orb. There's a great balance in it between comedy and melancholy- it's the kind of thing that really only makes sense on Solar I guess!"
